461.0. "The Burning Zone" by VAXUUM::KEEFE () Wed Sep 04 1996 16:38

    The pilot got a good review in the Boston Globe. I stuck with most of
    it but missed the last few minutes. I wonder how it was resolved.

    The concept is clever, that humans are allowed to exist as hosts for
    the more important life form, the viral hive. Which, in a nice turn of
    phrase for a TV show, "express their consciousness" through humans.

    Don't know if the collective virus-mind is the ongoing antagonist in
    this series. I did like the shot through the eyes of one of the
    infected scientists, who could see germs. When he looked at a young
    girl, who hadn't washed her hands with soap before eating in a
    restaurant--yak was she swarming with micro-cooties! Makes you want to
    wash five times before doing anything, yecch.

    The cast was ho-hum. Tamlyn Tomita is dull as usual. The lead guy seems
    like a low-rent Rob Morrow, if that's not redundant. How about the
    hearse-driving guy, with the halo? An interesting character.

461.1Could be a keeper; could be "read a book" timeTNPUBS::NAZZAROZydeco!Thu Sep 05 1996 15:0311
    It wasn't resolved, of course, so you would be lured in next week.
    It may work on me, but I'm not sure if it will keep me interested.

    I agree with the previous noter in that the concept was clever, the
    special effects very good, and the acting dull, except for Paul
    Guilfoyle (sp?), who was very effective as one of the original
    infectees (I think I invented a word!).

    Next week will make or break the series for me.

461.2OK! something lacking though?USDEV::LEVASSEURPride Goeth Before DestructionMon Sep 09 1996 16:448
    I thought the season premier was OK. Sort of like X-Files meet
    Outbreak meet Andromeda Strain. UPN was billing as "Where X-Files
    Leave off". I dunno, from episode #1, X-Files grabbed my interest and
    about 95% of the time holds it. There was just something missing or
    weak in Burning Zone. I'll give it 1-3 more episodes.....but overall
    better than average offering from the glass teat.
