428.0. "The Thorn Birds: The Missing Years (TV Movie)" by SSGV02::GRANT (Margo, DTN 381-6192) Thu Feb 15 1996 15:30

The silence is deafening ... did anyone watch this Thorn Birds "sequel" (?)
I was quite interested in principle, and looking forward to a new Meggie,
but lost heart at the halfway point. Too many liberties being taken with
the book! Bad characterization of Mrs. Cleary, etc.

I, too, thought I was the only one who had watched this. I don't
usually like sequels where there really is none, like "Scarlett." But
that is another discussion for quite another topic. I haven't read the
book, but I thought the years played out in this mini-series were
written for television. My understanding is that they were not in the
    book.

Anyway, I was curious to see what Amanda Donohoe would do with the
Meggie character. She was plausible. I didn't care for the new "Luke"
and Richard Chamberlain is just too aged to be playing what should have
been quite a dashing young man tortured by the dilemma he was in. I
agree about Mrs. Cleary -- this actress was no Jean Simmons ( I think
    that was the original actress)
