344.0. "The Marshall" by SUFRNG::WSA038::SATTERFIELD (Close enough for jazz.) Sat Feb 11 1995 07:24

What do you think of "The Marshall"? It looks pretty good to me. Not great
but better than average. It at least shows a different kind of law
enforcement, tracking down federal fugitives. The writing is pretty good
so far, enough humor to keep it from getting grim but not enough to
distract from the drama.

I've been watching it. I don't think I'd be upset with myself if I
    missed it, but it's enjoyable.

I've also been watching this show. I don't know what it is about Jeff
Fahey, but I find him an interesting actor to watch. The three shows
I've seen so far have all been quirky enough to maintain my interest,
but not so bizarre that they would lack credibility. A nice writing
    balance.

There is just something about his bewitching green eyes, that makes
me pay attention...I remember those eyes from Lawnmower Man a
few years ago...I have been taping it and watching it on Sunday's
when I am folding my laundry...which normally takes about 10 minutes
and I now find that I am only folding during the commercials...It
keeps my interest...and there is normally nothing to watch on Sunday's
anyway...I'm a tape master ...I'm glad I fouun this conference...

I was rewatching my Criterion CAV set of _Silverado_ Sunday and noticed some-
thing I'd forgotten, Jeff Fahey plays one of the more villianous of the villians
in the film. He's scruffy, bearded, and mean. BTW, the 1985 Lawrence Kasden
film is one terrific western. It's a synthesis of traditional western themes
and is one of the most entertaining films I've ever seen. It has an all star
cast and about the only thing it has in common with _Wyatt Earp_ (Kasden's
only other western) is Kevin Costner.

It's also the only Kevin Costner performance (that I can recall) that
has him really projecting some energy into his performance. I believe
"Silverado" also sent him on his way to stardom.

(Trivia note: Casting Costern in "Silverado" was Kasdan's way of making
up for Costner's role in "Diner" having been severely snipping during
    editing)

    Cheers,

Wasn't that _The Big Chill_ rather than _Diner_?

Oh, maybe. I haven't seen any of them. Whichever had the dead guy in
    it. :)

    	It was "The Big Chill".

And I haven't seen either one yet, either, although I would
like to see "Diner" one of these days.

Two things we really like about "The Marshall" at our house (well, other than
those *eyes*!):

- The marshall is so _real_ ... falls in the mud, has a family, talks to his
kids on the phone, hurts his hand when he punches someone, etc.

- Guaranteed minimum of 2-3 plot twists that will really take you by surprise.
Not much in the way of boring, trite plots for this show!

Changed my mind. I would be upset with myself if I missed it. I was
certainly upset when it got bumped from both Channel 5 and Channel 9
    last night.
344.11TOHOPE::WSA038::SATTERFIELDClose enough for jazz.Fri Apr 28 1995 23:268

Bad news, looks like it's been bumped to Monday nights at 8:00, a bad time
for this show. And this right after Entertainment Weekly gave it a highly
positive review and practically begged people to watch it.

It's more likely to get watched on Mondays than on late Saturdays, is
the reasoning. I think 8 pm is a little early, though.

Good news, The Marshall has been picked up for next seasaon.

Bad news, looks like it's going to stay in the Monday 8pm time slot.

The Marshall has been canceled, something I'm getting used to I guess.

Rats! Someone's got to find a new job for that actor!
