I kinda switched in and out of the first half but kept it on for the
second half. I thought it was okay, but somehow I can't see a
correspondent with a family at home being sent/going to a major foreign
capitol that was going to be obliterated (Beijing). I may be getting
jaded but it seemed a little sappy towards the end ("... and today's my
28th birthday..."). It did have the look and feel of a major breaking
    story, however.
313.2A "WAR OF THE WORLDS" REACTIONNWD002::WEINER_CATue Nov 01 1994 06:5410
I heard on the radio this morning that hundreds of calls came in (I'm
assuming to police and tv stations) from people who thought that
what they saw on TV was really happening. While I was watching, I
had wondered what people who were channel surfing might think when they
came across this movie, it did look pretty realistic.

Overall, I liked the movie and the ending was particularly
    thought-provoking.

First thing to do is stop trying to contact whatever else may be
    out there.

Ya never know just how they may see us.

Supposedly the "made for TV" movie was aired on the anniversary
of the war of the worlds broadcast.

I was watching a video last night and I stopped the video to
grab something to drink. My VCR was tuned to Ch. 7 (CBS)
so I caught it the show in the middle and WAS fooled for a couple
of minutes until they went to a live correspondent who I immediatly
recognized as the person who played "Q" on ST:TNG and then I knew I had
	been had!

In retrospect, I found it a little too far fetched that another race of
beings advanced enough to be able to alter the course of comets so
precisely would resort to that to "communicate" with us. I would
imagine that they would be intelligent enough to understand the effects
of a large comet impacting a planetary body and the potential danger to
the inhabitants. Given that, why would they be surprised, upset at our
efforts to destroy these projectiles? If they were smart enough to
receive and decipher our initial SETI messages they should have been
able to transmit a response from afar.

The only other plausible answer would be that our messages happened to
encounter an advanced civilization with warlike tendancies. Oooops! Of
course their actions could have been prompted by their observing the
advancement of our technology faster than our advancement of global
    peace.

The last screen in Houston bore an amazing resemblance to the old
    "Space Invaders" game.

The way it ended looks like it could be the pilot for a series on the
survivors and the conquering alien race????

    Figured it out.

It was all a test. We failed, so the higher life form aliens got rid
of us like cockroaches. They probably saw us as a threat, much like
the message in Day the Earth Stood STill.

So where did all the people in Faith Wyoming go?

Quite a wild movie IMO. I caught it about half way
through. For a few seconds I thought it was real. :^)
I even changed to other channels to see if a news special
    	had come on.

    	The ending was quite freaky!
