219.0. "The George Carlin Show" by MILPND::J_TOMAO (Life's a journey not a destination) Wed Jan 19 1994 10:51

George Carlin - one of my all time favorite stand up comedians has
thrown his hat into the half_hour_sitcom ring!

Unfortunatly it wasn't the best first episode I've seen. The basis is
this....George is a cabdriver in New York (I'm pretty sure it was NY)
and in this first episode it opens on him in a neighborhood bar with
your token 'moron' (the bartender - why does every show have one of
these?). Seems George owes the local bookie $2,700.00 but since he
just quit his job he can't pay off the money. He quit his job since he
wouldn't cut off his ponytail. Later he meets a financially well-off
bar patron and he makes a bet with the guy - George wins the bet and
the guy has to pay George $3,000.00. The guy has to go get the money
so George keeps the guy's dog as collateral. The dog is this really
cute, itty bitty thing that doesn't weigh more than 10 lbs (Yorkie I
think)....The guy doesn;t come back when he is supposed to so George
has to keep the dog and becomes emotionally attached to it. Fianlly
the guy shows up with the money but now George doesn't wantt oi give
the dog back so he forfits the cash and keepos the dog...now the bookie
wants to know where he'll get the $$ to pay the debt. George keeps the
dog, cuts off the ponytail and goes back and gets his old job back as a
cabbie and makes a payment plan with the bookie.

Some great George Carlin one-liners but other than that a pretty lame
    storyline.

Good enough to tape and I'll give ity some time to grow on me.

I liked the show. I agree it could have been funnier but I am a long
standing Carlin fan so any Carlin is goodness. But alas my wife figured
out the dog was staying right after the petfood store scene.

I wonder if he will use any of his album material as background info
for the character. ie. Irish Catholic, etc.

There were some good one liners.

I'll watch as long as it's on. Let's hope it stays for a while.

    help with the game....

O.k. - not that its anything earth-shattering but what happened in the
last 10 minutes of the show? The 1/23 episode.

    Thanks Jt
219.6Interesting WorldHURON::PETERSBe nice or be dog foodTue Jan 25 1994 05:2712
a few thing. The waitress came in and shows every one in the bar an
article on a emergency landing by a small plane reported by several
people as a UFO. George say it maybe a goverment cover up of the alien
    sightings.
They all tell geoge he is a flake and crazy. Then Greorge made a
great speach about how that he may live in a different world one
that may have aliens and and may have lots of other interesting things
but aleast in his world there is a chance of something interesting
or unusual happenning. He would want to live in a world without the
change for thses interesting things to be real.
