Tonight is David Letterman's last new show for NBC. Tom Hanks is scheduled
to appear along with a "mystery guest".

Dave will start new programs for CBS in the 11:30 slot on Aug 30.

  Great show! What a finish.

Tom Hanks was really funny. He had good stories about working as a bell boy
before he became famous including one time when he met Cher and Greg Alman.

Dave really put it to G.E. by replaying his attempt to drop in at G.E.
headquarters back in '85 to drop of a basket of fruit to the board of
directors. He got a less than warm reception.

I hadn't watched in a while, I notice that "The World's Most Dangerous
Band" has a new base player. Anyone know when that happened?

David Sandborn was sitting in for the last show.

The special guest star was someone that he'd always wanted on the show
but was unable to book. It's listed below.

I think that Dave is going to blow the competition away in the 11:30
slot.

The secret guest star was The Boss, Bruce Springstein. He and the band did a
great rendition of the Springstein's hit "Glory Days".

Conan O'Brien has been on. He's a stand up comic and a comedy writer. The
announcement surprised a lot of people. Speculation was that they were
considering Danna Carvey from Saturday Night Live (Garth) and Gary Shandling.

Anyone know when O'Brien is suppose to start? Could it be Monday?

How does one go about getting tickets for the Late Show With David Letterman?!?

I will be in New York for the remainder of this week and early next week,
and I would like to attend the taping of the show. Is there a phone number
I should be calling?

Any help is much appreciated.

I think it will take more planning than you think. It usually takes
weeks to get tickets to these kind of shows. SNL actually conducts
ticket lotteries for their 20 shows.

	From today's Nashua Telegraph:

A fan of David Letterman was hospitalized for observation after she
refused to leave the New York studio where Letterman tapes his show until
he would marry her. Janice Mitchell McPhail, 26, "drove all the way from
Detroit with her 3-year-old daughter and then she tried to sneak into the
Letterman Show," said police spokeswoman Sgt. Tina Mohrmann. Police were
called Tuesday afternoon when McPhail refused to leave the Ed Sullivan
Theater "until she married Dave Letterman," Mohrmann said.
The woman apparently slept in her car Monday night with the toddler, the
sergeant said. McPhail was in St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital for pschiatric
observation Wednesday. The toddler was turned over to city child welfare
officials.
The woman's relatives said in Detroit on Tuesday that she had no history of
mental health problems. "It's mind boggling," said her mother, Sylvia McPhail.
"She's unpredictable."
Letterman never mentioned the woman or the incident on his program. It was
not the first time Letterman has received unwanted attention from a fan.
Margaret Ray, 41, of Denver, has attempted to break into his Connecticut home
several times and been detained by police. She previously has ignored court
orders to leave Letterman alone.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FYI to Dave fans: E! Entertainment News Channel now has reruns of Late
Night with David Letterman every day of the week. 3 times daily Monday
to Friday (1PM, 7PM, 10PM), plus a couple of times a day on the
weekend (10PM, plus late afternoon). The first week included his
infamous body slam onto a giant Velcro panel... this week the theme
seems to be 'Dave on the road' (Las Vegas in 1989, Los Angeles around
the same time). So far the shows have hopped back and forth between
    1984 and 1989; I believe E! owns 509 shows, including 9 Anniversary
specials. They seem to play a new show every day at 10PM, then rerun
it the next day at 1PM and 7PM.

Well what did everyone think of Madonna's appearance on David Letterman
last night? She spent the whole time cussing, smoking a cigar, putting
him down, and refusing to leave.

Well she certainly got what she wanted, some more free publicity.
CNN HN has been showing clips from the show all day, and also
indicated her appearance on the late show made the front page
	of the New York Post.

After watching the show last night, it confirms my belief that she is
    utterly disgusting.

Can't believe she asked Dave if he urinated in the shower to avoid
    athlete's foot!!

Felt sorry for the elderly couple in the front row. The camera kept
cutting to them and it was obvious that they were uncomfortable.

Acutally, it was nice to hear the audience booing her and telling her
to "get out". The sad thing is is that this will only increase her
    notority(sp?) and her savings account.

Martin Lawrence got banned from NBC for his SNL appearance, Madonnna
should be banned from television altogether!

    RE: .10

    Hear hear! I agree.

At the beginning of the show there were the jokes of how Madonna likes
to "shock" folks, but she didn't do anything shocking she was just
    disgusting, rude, and vulgar.

I feel that Dave handled himself very well though. I don't know that I
would have been able to hold my temper in as well as he did.

Oh well. Time to go. I feel as if I am giving Madonna what she wants
    by evening talking about it!

I'm sure that Lettermen didn't exactly suffer from any of this. For his
ratings, I believe the label "god send" applies.

Will CBS ban her? Sure, and while they are at it they can do a big piece
about her on 60 minutes. Of course they would have to invite her on to give her
side of the story which they would then hype to the max.

People love to hate Madonna and Madonna is making a fortune off that hate.

Did anybody catch Letterman last night? I LAUGHED so hard at Mujibur and
Surijul (sp??). I think Dave is a pretty good interviewer, but the real
highlights of the show for me are when he does his remotes. I wonder how
many of the situations are set up ahead of time? I am so glad they moved
this show to 11:30 out here in the east....

Where in the East are you? The Boston station I watch still
airs it at the late hour of 11:35pm. That that five (5) minutes
makes much of a difference :-)

Well, I watched it Monday, at least through the Jeremey Irons
interview. Boy that guy has a fantastic voice. I wonder, does he have
hair or doesn't he? Seems like half the movies I've seen him in, he's
    balding.

    Such pressing questions.

I thought the two guys from Bangladesh were funny, if only because of
their accents and what they said. Now, I realize it's probably un-PC
to laugh at people's accents, but it was funny. And they have a sort
of innocent naivete (sp) about them -- I wonder how much is real and
how much is "rehearsed". They did look spiffy in their suits. :)

Just wondering....did anyone get to see this show last Friday? - I wanted to
see Julia Roberts, but our NBC affiliate only had the OJ Simpson stuff on.
Last time Julia was on she made a surprise appearance ... it was her 25th
birthday and Dave gave her a huge painting. It was funny to see her
struggling on to the elevator with it.

Did anyone tape last Thursday (Oct 5, 95) Letterman show? It was the
one with "Letterman's younger brother Carl" playing his fiddle with the
    band.

In reality "Letterman's younger brother Carl" is my older brother Richard.

Well, Jeff, I guess that makes us... cousins. I am usually always glad
to meet another cousin. Welcome to the family.

But this is a serious request. I really would like to get a copy of
this show. Richard has been on Letterman several times, but for this
one he was on for the whole show and played with the band, but since I
don't watch Letterman, I did not find out about it until it was too
late to tape it. So if anyone can help out, I would really appreciate

If you are unsuccessful here, and have access to Usenet, try the david
letterman group there (alt.fan.letterman). There are oodles of
Letterman watchers there and undoubtedly, someone will have a tape of
it. Whether or not they'll copy it for you, I can't say, but at least
you can hit a wider audience than here in our less-populated notesfile.
