985.0. "The Lord's Prayer" by COVERT::COVERT (John R. Covert) Mon Oct 17 1994 01:00
This traditional music of the Lord's Prayer is unquestionably a part of
our oldest musical inheritance. This "Ekphonesis", a common feature of
the early Greek liturgies, is almost identical with a Hebrew cantillation
of Zechariah 2:10, "Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion ..." Thus it
may very well be a musical tradition from the primitive Judeo-Christian
communities. The apostles may have sung the Lord's Prayer to this tune.
