50 days (I think) after Easter the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus'
Apostles. They spoke with other tongues etc.

For me, celebrating Pentecost is our acknowledgment that God's message
is for all people. In our parish, to show this we use the outward and
visible sign of reading the Gospel in as many languages as we can get
volunteers. In the past we have had English, German, Spanish, Greek
and Polish. This year we are hoping to persuade a parishioner to use
    sign language.

Actually, I thought Pentacost was an established holiday in the Jewish
faith. The Holy Spirit came upon the apostles on the day of Pentacost.

.5 Jack's right. Pentecost is an ancient Jewish observance, for
    different reasons, however.

For Christians, Pentecost is considered the birthday of the church.

In addition to the traditional meanings, Pentecost will have some extra
meaning for me this year.

Pentecost, which falls on May 22 this year, is the date I will retire
as co-moderator of CHRISTIAN-PERSPECTIVE.

O Spirit, breathe upon us your holy breath!

Shalom,
Richard
