888.0. "On Adam and Christ" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Pacifist Hellcat) Mon Mar 28 1994 23:16

In chapter 5, beginning with verse 12 of his letter to the Romans, Paul
compares and contrasts Adam and Christ.

Paul apparently sees Adam as a historical, rather than an allegorical,
figure. Even so, I'm not sure why Paul chose these two. I see a whole lot
more differences between Adam and Jesus Christ than similarities.

    Hi,

    One important similarity.
Keep in mind that Christ can be called the second Adam.

    Why?

1> There was a perfect body needed to be sacrified <<The Christ>>.
Adam was perfect when he committed the big mistake.
So there was a perfect body needed to straight things out.

2> No human being was good enough because we are all sinners.
So we can't take the place of the perfect lamb. <<The Christ>>
Ps: There are a lot of foreshadowing in Scriptures about
this item. In Exodus we will find the first one.
That night when the Children of Israel (Jakob's name) had
to depart from Egypt, When all firstborn died.
They had to eat a roasted Lamb in the perfect state.
(No bones were aloud to be broken.......etc)

3> When this sacrifice was done, i.e.: "Perfect body sacrified to
eliminate sin done by another perfect body", unperfect human beings
got a chance to ...some day in the very future... being restored as
a perfect human being here on earth, the same way Adam were before
       he committed his big mistake.

4> That's why Paul compares and contrasts Adam & Christ.

    Enjoy further reading....... Alex.

Adam was not born of a woman.

Jesus was.

Adam, except for his involvement with Eve, was not a highly social person.

Jesus was.

Adam never set out on a ministry of healing, preaching and teaching.

Jesus did.

Adam never invited others to follow him.

Jesus did.

Adam screwed up and then blaimed the woman.

Jesus didn't.

Adam eventually died.

Jesus died, but didn't stay that way.

Adam was given dominion.

Jesus is Sovereign.

Shalom,
Richard
