871.0. "The Parts of the Body - The Body of Christ" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Pacifist Hellcat) Tue Mar 08 1994 14:39

Paul, more than once, draws an analogy with the parts of the human body.
Each part being very different from the others, each with a purpose, none
to be disparaged.

Now, using the body analogy, I am occasionally perceived by some as the
rectum, the anus, the sphincter. (Even here I've been told I'm full of it.
What do you think "it" is?) Well, all I gotta say is, "Hey! It's a dirty
job, but *somebody's* gotta to do it!"  8-}

Pre-apologies to those who maintain a narrow interpretation of Scripture,
I sometimes extend the metaphor to different churches - Methodists, Baptists,
Catholics, Mennonites, and even Jehovah's Witnesses and Unitarians.

Yes, I think each has its function, each its own gift to the whole.

Peace,
Richard

 Richard,

One can also draw the conclusion that though there are different parts of a
human body, they all work in harmony with each other. Hence your metaphor
of different churches is a hard one to comprehend.

I know in my own religion Jehovah's Witnesses there is harmony and we are
made up of varying different types, but that as far as it goes. We view
 Christendom as separate.

Yes, I believe Paul was addressing the disharmony among the members of the
early church, too.

Yes, I know. And much of Christendom views you as quite separate, too.

Shalom,
Richard

FWIW, Richard, I don't think that you are any of the
parts of the body of Christ that you mentioned.
