480.0. "Searching for Christian games software" by CHEFS::DAVEYP () Mon Jun 29 1992 19:39

    Help

I am church youth leader for a local church in Newbury England.

We have been having a long discussion about the use of technology to
attract and retain the interest of some of our young boys.

Does anyone know of any Christian games software.... at all ?

I guess DOS or UNIX based would be best, but I am intereseted in anything.

Even simply a contact number or lead on the trail would do......

I can find nothing in UK, is there anything out there you know of of
    have heard about?

    Please let me know.

    Paul,

I personally don't know of any strictly Christian games software.
You might have more luck posting your note in GOLF::CHRISTIAN.

Tangentally, there's a couple Nintendo games, CASTLEVANIA and
DRACULA'S CURSE, which incorporate traditional Christian symbolism.
If you get a cross, it clears the screen of all enemies. If you
get a glass vile of holy water, it can be used as a weapon against
your enemies. The holy water creates a small fire when broken open.

    Peace,
    Richard

I will also take your suggestion of Golf::Christian.

If anything else come to light :-)... please post it here as I am
    monotoring.

    Paul,

I'll just mention this for what it's worth. The game Populous, which I
think is available for MS/DOS machines, has borrowed many Christian
    themes for its own purposes, but it is definitely not a Christian game;
it's far too irreverent for one thing, and it doesn't conform to the
specifics of Christian theology, so I don't think it will suit your
purposes. It *is* a lot of fun to play, but if you are looking for
specifically Christian games I can't think of anything right off hand.

There are, of course, Christian board games. These tend to promote
interaction among the participants, rather than electronic components. ;-)

My favorite would be "The Ungame." The game is non-competitive and creates
an environment for strong interpersonal exchanges. While there is a specific
Christian version, there are also versions for married couples, families,
students, and other affinities.

I've also heard of "Bible Trivia," but never having played it I cannot
vouch for it.

Peace,
Richard
