I believe that Christ had defeated the world (or *worldly*) aspect -
especially when Satan tempted Him and lost.
I'm also coming to see that the words *worldly* and *earthly* are two
very different things althgether.
I'm not of the *world* (at least I try hard not to be, by catching
my desires/addictions/whatever when I become conscious of them). I *am*
of the Earth though.

This tells me that worldliness, or attachment to the material world with
all its "things" causes suffering. It is a result of desire being
focussed away from the "Kingdom of God," rather than toward it. The
suffering is the result of the succumbing to temptation in the form of
the pursuit of desire fulfillment.
"I have defeated the world," to me is a proclamation pointing toward the
defeat of temptation and the mastery of His own human nature. What is a
master, anyway, other than one who has mastered himself? This mastery
demonstrates the ability to be in the world, but not of it.

Nice to meet you the other day in Colorado...
"Because everything that has been begotton of God overcomes the world;
and this is the victory which overcame the world---our faith(1). And who is he
who overcomes the world but he who believes(2) that Jesus is the Son of God"
1 John 5:4-5
(1) The faith that brings us into the organic union with the Triune God and
that believes that Jesus is the Son of God (v5) that we may be begotten of
God and have His divine life, by which we are enabled to overcome the
Satan-organized-and-usurped world.
(2) Such a believer is one who has been begotten of God and received the
divine life (John 1:12-13; 3:16). The divine life empowers him to overcome the
evil world energized by Satan. The Gnostics and Cerinthians, who were not this
kind of believer, remained the pitiful victims of the evil satanic system.
