283.0. "Bible Bookstore Locations?" by FLOWER::HILDEBRANT (I'm the NRA) Wed Aug 07 1991 18:24

I have been looking for a source of Bibles. The one that I am
mainly interested in is the New Revised Standard Version. Most
of the stores around carry the KJV or the NIV.

I work in Maynard, and live near Worcester.

    Thanks,
    Marc H.

283.1a Westboro Possibility...TFH::KIRKa simple songWed Aug 07 1991 18:2710
Hi Marc,

You might try _The Burning Bush_ in Westboro. It's in WestMeadow PLaza at the
intersection of routes 9 and 135, Nestled in between a bank and a shoe store,
I think. I know they carry at least a few versions, and are very helpful in
locating or ordering what they don't have in stock.

PEace,

Jim

    Marc,

_Logos_ in the center of Framingham is also a very good place for
Christian books and music, though it is located a bit further away
    from you.

I am pretty sure that I have seen some other published NRSV Bibles in
the Religion section of one or two general purpose bookstores, but I am
afraid I can't be specific. However, I can say that I picked up a copy
of the new Oxford publication of the NRSV at Waldenbooks in the
Greendale Mall (in Worcestor, MA), so they might have some other NRSV
Bibles there as well. Another possibility might be the Little
    Professor bookstore in Shrewsbury.

Thanks for the info on the NRSV. I have an inexpensive copy of the NSRV
from the Burning Bush Store( Very helpful people...like Jim said). I'm
looking for another copy...larger print with a leather cover for my
    wife.

The NIV version is available everywhere in every style you would
    want.

I'll check out the other locations.

you want and have an enormous supply of material in their store as
    well.

The Revised Standard Version is pretty standard and it is what most
secular bookstores carry (outside of the King James).

    re .2

Logos in downtown Framingham went out of business a while ago. I sure
    do miss it! :-)

A couple of other sources (perhaps too far for the base noter, but of
    interest to other noters):

Christian Book and Supply - 2 locations - Acton and Burlington (MA)

    	* Acton - 481 Great Road - (508) 263-4061
Rt. 2A between routes 27 and 495 - from the intersection
27 and 2A, head toward Littleton. Pass condominiums and a couple
small plazas - Christian Book and Supply is on the right at the
end of a 4-store, 2-story building. If you get as far as Nagog,
you've gone too far! (nice lunchtime visit from
          Stow/Maynard/Acton facilities!)

    	* Burlington - 120 Cambridge St. - (508) 272-6969
Can someone help out with directions? I've been there, but can't
     	  remember route numbers, etc. !!

    Whittemores' - 3 Wexford St., Needham - (617) 449-1500

Route 135 exit towards Newton off Route 128.
Take the first left (it looks like it is going into an industrial
park - I guess maybe it is!) - self-serve gas station on one
corner - Whittemore's is the first building on the right. Lots
of Sunday School materials and Bible Study Guides as well as
music, general Christian reading and gift/jewelry. (Just down
the road in Newton is the New England Mobile Book Fair, a huge
warehouse of books, hardcopy and paperback, sorted by publisher,
as well as several rooms of remainders at great prices. Their
"Religious" remainders area has lots of goodies! There is also
an aisle of reference books with Bibles and other books at one
    	  end.)

    Divinitas - 5 Magazine St., Cambridge - (617) 354-1114

Divinitas is also the bookstore for the Episcopal Divinity
School, so they have many scholarly works (heavy in feminist
theology, liberation theology, gay and lesbian issues, etc.)
Divinitas is located in the First Baptist Church in Central
Square. If you take the T (Red Line, Central Square stop - and
you really should, since parking is *severely* limited), you
will see the big brick church at the intersection of Western Ave,
Magazine St., Mass Ave and Prospect St. Entrance is on Magazine
    	  St.

    Enjoy!

    RE:283

If your looking for a remarkable source for books, especially Bibles,
I've used only one place for several years --Cumberland Valley Bible
Book Service, PO Box 613, Carlisle PA 17013

    Tel. - 717-249-0231 Fred Huebner

They are very knowledgable, will mail a catalog for free and will order
anything. Specializes in Evangelical/Reformed/Puritan and hard to find
books with a great stock of Bibles.

The best part is, that most books and especially Bibles are sold at
cost. Whatever he pays from the publisher is what you pay with only
    shipping and tax.

Example: My hard to find Newberry Reference Bible, KJV, wide margin,
genuine leather cost me $85.00 10yrs. ago from my local bookstore.
5 yrs. later I ordered an identical one for a friend having now become
    aquainted w/CVBBS. Cost w/shipping -$38.00. Checking back with a
Christian Bookstore owner friend of mine, I was told that my ORGINAL
purchase was in fact discounted from standard mark-up, and that the new
    purchase was below his cost.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

    Lisa
