282.0. "A C-P dinner!?!" by ATSE::FLAHERTY (Enlighten up!!) Fri Jul 26 1991 13:51

I was wondering with Dave Dawson being in the area soon that it might
be nice to have a Christian-Perspective dinner. If there is interest
in 'breaking bread' together, I would be glad to organize the event.
Somewhere centrally located in the Greater Maynard Area. Perhaps we
could even get in touch with former C-P noters like Paul Cioto and
Dave Meyers to see if they would like to join us.

I would *LOVE* to have dinner with any or all of ya'll. I do
have a somewhat crowded schedule so ifin ya'll want lets set a date.
I also understand that this is summer and many people have made plans
so if we can't this time, we'll try again as I get to Boston a couple
    of times a year.

Same as Nanci, I certainly would like to be there to gather with you.
But I know I cannot.

I'd like to suggest extending an invitation also to Jody Bobbitt, Nancy Smith,
and E Grace Noonan, all whom I believe are currently non-readers of C-P.

And, Hey! How about extending a special invitation to Collis Jackson, if
he'll be in the area by then.

Deb Arch? Any "read onlys" out there?

Peace,
Richard

Gee August 12 is good for me too!

Thanks for the concern on my son Jim. I was planing on posting a
request for prayers later this week. My son has hydrocephalus SP???
in which a shunt was installed when he was 1 yrs old, he is now 10.
This shunt consist of a tube that goes from the outside of his skull
down his neck, across his breast bone and into his intestinal area of his
abdomen. As he grew, his body outgrew the length of tubing and now
needs to be replaced. For Children's hospital in Boston, this is routine
surgery, for us it is scary. Anyway, he'll be going in August 6th and
should be home by August 8th.

    Peace
    Jim

Ok, so the 12th it is!!!

Now for a centrally located place. What's the name of that nice
Chinese restaurant in Marlboro, Kb? Is that central enough or should
it be further East (Acton/Littleton area)?

Is 6:00 a good time for everyone?

    Ro,

The Chinese restaurant in Marlboro is the Royal Mandarin on Rt 20.
If the Action/Littleton (oops, read Acton :-)) area is more centrally
located I'd suggest the Rusty Scupper.

6:00 is a good time here.

If you have to leave "a little early" 2D's, that's okay. I think

Don't pick a place just on my account obviously. Much as I want to

    Hi Richard,

I thought of you many times during the dinner last night, Richard.
I was very disappointed that my picture of you and Nanci has gotten
lost somewhere in my pile of photos....darn!

I had a lovely time, and as always it was so good to *see* people
and not just typed lines and personal names (though I treasure them
too ;^)). The food, to me, was 'ok', but the energy of the group
was very lively, lots of laughs, and lots of good conversation.
I didn't move down to the other end of the table, so I'm just assuming
that their conversation was good, too ;^)!

    ....the hugs were great too!

Here is a copy of my mail message to Richard in response to his
    questions regarding the C-P dinner:

Oh but Richard you were there certainly in spirit! ;')

Impressions from a sometimes shy at large dinners/parties where she doesn't
    know many people person:

As always, nobody looked anything like what I had pictured them to look
like! We were at a long table and I wished it had been a round table as
it is difficult to get to know the folks way at the other end (King
Arthur had the right idea)! The atmosphere was relaxed (although some
of us were a bit shy) but all were friendly. Sometimes the
conversations were between groups of 2, 3, or 4 but only because of the
long table. As someone walked in they were introduced to everyone.
The only person who didn't come, but wrote to me that he wouldn't be
able to at the last minute, was Peter Andrews. He sent his apologies
and was disapponted that he had other obligations. Maybe next time.

I guess the highlights were every time someone came in it was fun
finding out who they were and connecting them with their node name!!
Mike and E Grace came a little late due to unfortunate circumstances
    (her father passed away yesterday).

We were a little disorganized when ordering with such a big crowd, but it
was fun and we all seemed to enjoy the meal. It would be nice to have a
house party where everyone could mingle and get to talk to everyone else.
But most importantly everyone would love it if somehow we could all meet
you Richard...truly your presence was missed.

Oh yeah, we also talked about other notesfiles and noting in general which

I really enjoyed the time together last night as well! It's great
to be able to put faces, voices and laughter to what, in many cases,
used to be only node names and words across a screen.

I enjoyed the dinner, and I was glad to meet a more C-P noters (although as
mentioned the table arrangement meant that I didn't get to talk to everyone
who was at the far end of the table). I'm sorry to hear about E Grace's

didn't want to talk about it.

Yes, absolutely, let's do this again sometime.

I wrote a long message to Richard that I can't put in

It had all this stuff about how nice y'all were, and I
don't want it going to your heads. I also told him how often

There was one problem that came out of this whole thing, and I'm
surprised no one picked up on it. This problem is really Dave
Dawson's fault. If you read Eileen's reply, ya'll notice that all
of us that met Dave now say "ya'll." Us New Englanders aren't that
easy to change, but Dave managed to do it. We'll probably require

    Hi Bubba,

Carole is on vacation this week, but will be in touch with me through
mail (so I can keep her posted on the plans as she is the 'coordinator'
    of this event).

Generally, we have them somewhere centrally located in the Greater
Maynard Area, somewhere along the 495 belt. Last time we held it in
Chelmsford. Where are you staying? Will you have a car?

Personally, Thursday or Friday is good for me.

Anyone else have preference of place and day?

My customers are leaving DECworld on Wednesday morning, so, I'm free
after that ... I'll be staying with a friend in Marlboro on Thursday,
& Friday nights and will not have a car, so, anyone coming from the
    Marlboro area ... I'd appreciate a ride.

I *think* that I'll be checking out on Wednesday morning, but, will
check and make sure ... it may be Thursday morning that I check out.

We'll get the logistics a little "cleaner" by tomorrow but all in all
it looks like Thursday evening may be the best. Can I bring a
female_lady_wimmin friend with me? If I can, perhaps she'll provide
the transportation from Marlboro to Chelmsford.

    LOOKIN' FORWARD TO IT!!

Just ... well ... don't try to 'convert' me ... OK? If that's
    agreeable, I won't try to convert y'all. :-)

The way it is explained to me is that the names of people to be TFSO'd
are passed through two review committees. The purpose of this is to
make sure that the layoffs are done in a fair and equatable fashion.
They don't want to get rid of a disproportionate number of minorities,
women, and "old" people. That's the theory anyway.

Those names that pass through OK can be TFSO'd.

282.175C-P Dinner Coordinator soughtCSC32::J_CHRISTIEPs. 85.10Wed Aug 23 1995 16:4416
I'm probably overstepping myself, but I think it's high time people gathered
again face to face. I think it's high time for another C-P dinner!

Because of geographical considerations, this tends to be a New England
centered event. I know I won't be able to attend. Once, however, a C-P
dinner was scheduled to fit the itinerary of former C-P noter and moderator
Dave Dawson (See 282.0).

With this in mind, who among us will volunteer to serve as coordinator
(Someone to set a date, determine a fairly central place, extend invitations,
count the respondents, make reservations, etc.)? Maybe two could share
the load?

Shalom,
Richard

Glen .176,

So far, it looks like we've got the following persons for a C-P dinner:

Glen Silva

Cindy Painter

Eric (& the lovely Mrs.?) Myers

Mike (& the lovely Mrs. ?) Heiser (Maybe?)

Jack (& the lovely Mrs.?) Martin

Bob Messenger

Jim Kirk (requested to be invited)

I'd say that's enough to go ahead with plans.

May I suggest also extending an invitation to:

	Ro & Don Reinke
	Deb Arch
	Karen Bergggren
	Alfred Thompson

I think I have phone numbers somewhere for these former C-Pers, if needed.

On the choice of a restaurant, may I suggest choosing one with these three
considerations in mind:

o Location -- Easily identified, easily accessed, and fairly central.

o Privacy -- Some places may offer a separate room for a private party.

o Price -- Some of us live on a tight budget. If it were held here I'd target
places with a $5 to $7 per plate average.

Shalom,
Richard

Well, here is the scoop. I will organize this dinner, but I will not be
there. :-( While organizing this dinner, I was also organizing one for a
friend who is out from England. Both are on the 15th. Sigh.... I was hoping the
other one could have been changed to the 14th, but the 15th works better for
him, as well as this one. But with that aside, lets get this thing rolling. I
have the following people who are interested in going:

Ro but Donless Renke (Don works on Fridays)
		Cindy Painter
		Bob & Nancy Fleischer
		Eric Myers
		Jack Martin
		Bob Messenger

I have called but not heard back from the following people:

		Deb Arch
		Karen Berggren
		Jim Kirk

	I wasn't sure about:

		Mike Heiser & wife

I had thought Peter Andrews had responded to this, but from the looks
of it, he has not. :-( Could someone get in contact with him?

Ro made a suggestion, and it sounds like a good one. So I will share it
with all of you now. She suggested meeting at the Yangzee at 5:30, but have
dinner at 6:30. This will allow people who are coming from far away a chance to
get there. Is this good for anyone? Does anyone else want to join in?

I will make the reservation next Wednesday. But if anyone felt like
they wanted to send me a reminder, I would NOT be the least bit offended. :-)

I also had a very good time Friday evening and appreciated the chance
    to meet all of you.

When I arrived, I was greeting be Glen, Eric, Bob, Peter, and Joe. Of
course nobody was as I pictured them. Bob, it was also good to finally
meet you and your wife is very charming!

Cindy, very nice meeting you and as always, interesting to communicate.

Bob M: Yes, and then of course you are dealing with death penalty
    issues.

Jack: Gee...I still am neutral on the death penalty issue. I am a
firm believer in justice but at the same time, I also believe everybody
is redeemable. Look at Paul the apostle for example...here's a guy who
persecuted the church and yet God converted him and used him as a
    vessel for his purposes...

282.228C-P dinner, 1995APACHE::MYERSHe literally meant it figurativelyTue Sep 19 1995 14:3235
It was a good evening spent with interesting people. There were no
food fights, no one stomped out in a huff, and no shouting matches over
the nature of the Bible ... much to my disappointment.:^) Glen is still
gay and Jack is still just happy.

Once we had a quorum, we moved from the lobby area to the large round
table that was reserved for us. We shared tea and Cokes as we got
acquainted and waited for the stragglers. With the anxious waiter
hovering around like a horse fly, we eventually ordered our soup around
6:30. With the soup now on the table, Jack said a lovely embracing
    blessing.

The conversation shifted from larger to smaller groups, and from
subject to subject, as is normal with a large group. Jack shared his
views on capital punishment and Cindy shared a photo of her IHH
(Information Highway Honey), a regular Crocodile Dundee. We all wish
    her the best.

After we finished the meal, I suggested that we get a couple of snap
shots. Nancy Fleischer acted as photographer and we all jostled about
as if none of us had ever posed for a group picture before. Anyway,
Nancy managed to snap off a couple of shots, and as soon as I finish
the roll (a.s.a.p. I assure you) I'll share the results with all
interested parties. The only ones not in the pictures were Nancy and
Joe Sneiderman (religious differences I guess :^)).

With drives ahead of us and some with families waiting, we split up and
    finally all left around 8:30.

We *have* got to get together again. Hopefully, with representation from
the West and those more local noters who couldn't make it. Perhaps then we
might spark some more prolonged and spirited discussions, something
that I wished we had more of on Friday.

online friendship of many years has grown even closer, and so we hope
to finally meet in person within the next few months. Since we're both
divorced and not wanting to do that scene again, we're in no great
hurry to jump into that space for a long while. So with that, story
    to be continued...(;^)

Richard - thanks so much, C'zn, for arranging all of this! Now we just
have to figure out how to get YOU to the next one! It's been far too
long since we've exchanged a hug or two...

Cousin,

Actually, Glen deserves most of the credit.

About the hugs, *far* too long.

Grace and peace,
Richard

Hey, Eric. I'm kind of curious about this myself!

OK, OK. I've got the pictures! I am not much of a shutter bug so you
should know that there are only two shots, both taken by Nancy
Fleischer. And there's some bad news. Just as Nancy predicted, the
overhead lighting of the restaurant caused some flares on the film.
    They're still viewable, though.

I'll get copies made this week.

    Eric
