234.0. "Nestorian Christians." by NYTP07::LAM () Wed May 15 1991 04:51

    Does anyone know who the Nestorian Christians were? Are they a cult of
    some kind or what?

    They are members of a Christian Church originally centered in Persia.
    They are apparently Christians, but believe in a doctrine attributed to
    a guy named Nestorius, (hence the name Nestorian Church, I guess) which
    stated that the divine and human person remained separate in the
    incarnate Christ, which was, and remains, in contradiction to Catholic
    Church teachings. The Catholic Church in Byzantium officially
    condemned this doctrine in the year 431 CE. The Nestorian Church
    survives chiefly in the Asia Minor area.

    All this according to my Webster's Collegiate dictionary.

    I don't know how you define cult, or if in your definition this
    qualifies the Nestorian Christians as cult members, but to me, I think
    not.
