194.0. "All God's creatures" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Brother Richard (:-}>+-) Fri Mar 29 1991 01:41

Allergies limit our choice of pets. For the last 5 years we've been
blessed with the company of 3 goldfish named:

		Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

Don't ask me which fish is who. We've never decided. Further, this
threesome never experienced the blazing furnace as was reported of
their namesakes.

In the past, I've been owned by cats; cats with names such as:

	Genesis, Obadiah, Jonah, Moses and Methuselah.

Of course, none of them answered to anything but a soprano "Kitty-kitty-kitty!"
or the sound of the electric can opener! 8-}

Peace,
Richard

194.1Mei-Mei, a cat of His creation...CSC32::C_HOEDaddy not working today?Fri Mar 29 1991 11:1814
Mei-Mei was our family name for my sister's cat. She got tired of
being mei-mei (little sister) so tha cat, a nutered female,
became Mei-Mei. She lives with us today since my brother-in-law
is allergic to cats and gets quite upset at white fur all over
his dark suites.

Now that I am looking for work, I need some magic-anti-static
stuff to keep that cat hair out of my navy-blue sport coat.

In perspective, Mei-mei has a personality that seems to sooth the
hard times by taking my mind off the daily stresses. She is
definitely on of God's gifts to us.

194.2Creatures I have loved....WILLEE::FRETTSThru our bodies we heal the EarthFri Mar 29 1991 16:0145

    Currently, there are five creatures living with us. Muffin, our
    dog (8 yr old Lhasa/Poo), who is about the sweetest thing I've ever known,
    came to us when our 75 years old next door neighbor moved to a community
    where he couldn't take Muffin. So we adopted him. I don't know how
    we lived without him! Then we have 4 cats. Amber - 7, who is a
    grey/black/white tabby, and her son Buster Brown - 6. Buster is
    similar in color to his mother, and is much bigger. Amber weighs in
    at about 7 lbs., Buster weighs 13 lbs. (1 1/2 lbs. more than Muffin!).
    Pistachio is about 8 yrs old and is a beautiful long-haired peach/grey/
    white, with green eyes. She was supposed to be with us for a month 6
    years ago, but here she is today. We adopted Scooter last year from
    an animal emergency hospital - she was 6-months old. She is grey and
    white and very small boned. She also has a problem with her left
    front foot - there is nerve damage and the lower part of her foot
    bends under as she walks. But she does well and gets around as if
    all fours worked fine. All of these creatures are very sweet and I
    love them dearly.

    Over the years I have lived with many fur-faces - here's the 'family'
    tree -

    Cleo - all black cat; my special girl - in kitty heaven
    Clancy - mackarel striped tabby; very sweet boy - in kitty heaven
    Mittsy - tabby with extra-big feet, loved to mother Sammy - in kitty
             heaven
    Annie - beautiful green - eyed Abyssinian mix; very smart/very psychic;
            Mike's very special girl - in kitty heaven
    Daisy - tabby adopted by Mike's brother - doing very well!
    Sammy - all black with one white toe; manx mix, so he had a little
            stub tail; very large ears; one of the most precious creatures
    	    I've ever known - in kitty heaven
    Noel - a calico; sweet girl, but did not get along with the other cats;
           she ran away from home 3 years ago :-(
    Nellie, Louder, Lucas - Buster Brown's brothers; all three were adopted
           and all three are now in kitty heaven (I don't think I'll ever
           give away any kittens that come to me again :-()
           P.S. Nellie got his name because I thought he was a girl...and
                 the name stuck! Louder got his name because of how loud
                 he meowed!
    Boswell - a long-haired Peruvian guinea-pig - now in guinea-pig heaven!!

194.3Oh, what we might learnCSC32::J_CHRISTIEBrother Richard (:-}>+-Fri Mar 29 1991 23:0917
	I watched Sally Jesse Raphael yesterday. She was interviewing
some homeless people who lived in the tunnels beneath the city of New York.

	I was particularly impressed by a man who had been living in the
tunnels for 17 years and was now living and working on a farm away from
the city. The pivotal point in his life was when he connected with a mongrel
dog. He found her wandering the streets and obviously lost. He named her
"Mama." She was pregnant, but in such poor condition that she lost all of
her pups. She bled for 4 days afterwards. He cared for her. He nursed
and nurtured her back to health. They are now inseparable. There was an
incredible bond of caring loyalty between them.

	Dear Lord, would that we might learn to care for one another and
all of Your creatures so profoundly.

Peace,
Richard

     Oh man... it figures, I look into this note and it is full of
    cat lovers. I have to wonder if it is safe for a bird lover
    like myself to stick his beak into this.
     Seriously, I have nothing against cats. I happen to be very
    fond of all animals. Even the kind that many people tend to
    be squeamish about.
     However, to be honest I have had a lifelong fascination with birds
    and currently own five and also list bird watching among my
    pastimes.
     I am also enthralled by small animals and the smaller they are the
   more interesting I find them.
     All our pets have two names. They have an official name and a nickname.
   So, here is the list

     Melodeedee, ( Attila The Hen ) A Zebra Finch, who is fearless
   and bosses everyone around, including me.

     Curly, ( Head Crash ) A Thompson's Twin Spot, who was almost bald when
  we got him and who makes some bizarre sounds at times.

     Beaker ( Hot Stuff ) A Orange Breasted Waxbill, who is always trying
  to get romantic with Melodeedee.

     Tweeter ( Feed Bag ) A Orange Breasted Waxbill, who is always the first
  in line when it comes to food.

     Sydney Greensqueak ( The Green Chicken ) A Parakeet who while quite
   tame and friendly is afraid of nearly everything.

   We also have a pair of Gerbils:

     Pong ( Bee-Bop ) She seems to take delight in trashing everything
  in their tank. Elaine calls her "Gerbzilla".

     Ping ( Rocksteady ) Spends most of her time trying to put things in
  order after her sister has ransacked the place.

                                                               Mike

             Glad you liked it. Critters certainly do add to our
           lives don't they ?
