113.0. "Farewell to Digital..." by JOKUR::CIOTO () Wed Nov 14 1990 21:42

    Greetings,

My last day working at Digital will be this Friday, 16 November. :(
I have been a contract tech writer with the company since the summer of
1988. Though various groups in the company would like to hire me, the
corporation won't allow the hiring of "outsiders." You know the story.
I like Digital a whole lot, and would have liked to continue here, but
what can you do? The recession in Massachusetts is pretty nasty at the
    moment.

I have enjoyed corresponding with you here in this conference and
elsewhere, and I have enjoyed meeting some of you. Now it's up to the
historians to figure out what the hell (heck?) all my long-winded entries
in these notes conferences really mean! ;) So much for the written word.

And speaking of the written word, perhaps it is appropriate to surprise
some of you ;) by quoting something nice from the New Testatment -- from
Saint Paul, naturally ;) -- before I sign off the air.

I stumbled upon some heartwarming words from Paul's letter to the
Philippians. I think it's pretty apropos to my situation and many
    others in similar situations.

    From Philippians 4:

"May you always be joyful in your life in the lord. I say it
       again: Rejoice!
"Show a gentle attitude toward all. The lord is coming soon.
Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what
you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace,
which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and
minds safe in union with Christ...
"In conclusion, my brothers, fill your minds with those things
that are good and deserve praise: Things that are true, noble, right,
       pure, lovely, and honorable...
"How great is the joy I have in my life in the lord. After so
long a time, you once more had the chance of showing that you care for
me. I don't mean that you had quit caring for me -- you did not have a
       chance to show it.  And I am not saying this because I feel neglected;
for I have learned to be satisfied with what I have. I know what it is
to be in need, and what it is to have more than enough. I have learned
this secret, so that anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am
full or hungry, whether I have too much or too little. I have the
strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me."

Jamey, Collis, and others .... we had some rough moments here
in our debates, as well as a lot of fun. You guys really know how to
press my buttons. Admittedly, my choice of words could have been
better here and there. I have no hard feelings, and I hope you don't
    either.

Many blessings to you. With love and gratitude,

    Paul

Dear Paul,

Have enjoyed your notes here and elsewhere. Will miss your wit and passion.

It was a pleasure meeting you in person and breaking bread with you on a
couple of occasions. I'm sure our paths will cross again many times, if not
in this 'lifetime', surely in another. Please keep in touch with your friends
here at DEC.

Love to you...namasthe,

Ro

Today was my last day at Digital. The layoff hit home. Sorry I won't
be able to talk to you anymore or hear your words of wisdom. Thanks
for the time we spent together.

Dave's leaving was so sudden and perhaps that is to become the norm
during these times. I so much enjoyed his contributions here.

Oh no Dave! I so much enjoyed your romping in the campfire! And your
ability to 'generate discussion' is going to be very sorely missed. I
am sad. I will miss you a lot!

From his note in golf::Christian, I understand that Jamey
Nordby has been given the package and this is his last week
        with Digital.

Farewell, Jamey, and walk with God.

    .17,

Yes, I wrote him a farewell there. As much as he and I found each
other's viewpoints incompatible, I'm going to miss that guy!
