336.0. "Sign-in 1994 WDW Visitors" by ILUVNH::BADGER (One Happy camper ;-)) Wed Feb 17 1993 11:15

Its been a year since we've went, so last night I picked up the old
phone and dialed us in for next FEB. Just hearing them talk has a
    soothing effect.

    WHEN: Feb 22, 1994
    WHERE: Fort Wilderness
OTHER: Hoop-DE DO rev FEB 28th

HOW: via RV, driving same as always

We will have a new member in our family, a 17yr. girl from Sweden. We
altnate years on taking in exchange students. I was going to let this
year pass. Lots of pressure from kids and wife to get the exchange
student on schedule. Then it was, we HAVE to take here to WDW!

Hope this trip is better than your last trip.

336.2Another distant reservationMAGEE::GIBSONFri Feb 26 1993 18:5124
Couldn't stand it any more, so just had a chat with the CRO.

When: March 19th - 26th, 1994 at WDW, a few more days with relatives
in Naples (unless the -itis gets me and we go sooner)

Who: Myself and Peter (husband) - friends may join us with their
           teen-agers

Where: Port Orleans, requested room 5301 (3rd floor, king-sized bed,
           corner room, overlooking the jacuzzi)

How: Air somehow (whatever airline has the best price at the time)
           probably into Tampa

    Last trips: 12/89, 5/90, 12/91

Why: Will be over two years since last trip. Want to hit at least
one Red Sox spring training game in Fort Myers while visiting
in-laws in Naples. Tampa is a good compromise for arrival/
           departure and car rental reasons.

Besides, reading this file lately has given me the -itis
           worse than ever!

336.3One year to go!!MR4DEC::AWILLIAMSIt's a duck blur...Thu May 20 1993 15:3030
Well gang, one year from today my family and I will be in Orlando...

    When: May 20-28, 1994

Who: The Williams family -- me, my wife (Susan), our daughter
(Katie), and my folks (Jean & Art a.k.a. Grandma & Grandpa)

    Where: Vistana

How: Driving down. Will likely rent a Caravan or the equivalent.

Last trip: 6/90 for Susan and me

Why: You've got to be kidding... :-)

This trip will be a lot of fun. It's been fours years since Susan and
I went down the last time. My parents have made short trips here and
there on their own, but this'll be the first time I've gone down there
    with them since '78.

There are lots of "new" things to see and do. Pleasure Island, Typhoon
Lagoon, Splash Mountain, Sunset Boulevard (I hope)...

And of course, this will be Katie's first trip. She'll be 2 1/4 next
Spring when we go and all the "grown-ups" are really looking forward to
spoiling her down in the World.

Now, I just have to wait out the year... :-(

336.4Okay...Now everyone can say, "Haw! I told you so!"WREATH::SCOPAThu Jul 08 1993 18:2831

Who: The Scopa Family (Mike, Carol, Holly, and Mike, Jr.)

When: July 9, 1994 to July 25, 1994

Where: The Caribbean Beach Resort (Martinigue again)

How: Driving

Last Trip: July 1992

Why: This past Winter and Spring have been terrible. The Winter
was tough enough with the cold and snow but on top of that
we had to deal with TFSO and the loss of 2 friends and
       moderators.

Well folks life is too short and we all need to do
whatever we can to make our short stay on Earth as
pleasant and enjoyable as possible. The folks at Disney
come the closest to helping me suspend disbelief and help
me forget the trials and tribulations of life. Quality vacations
with my family are best found at WDW.

I need something to focus on over the next year or so.
Yes I know I said I'd hold off until 1997. Believe me,
       I never thought I'd go in 1994.

Now all I need is for Digital to rebound and keep us all
employed so that this '94 dream comes true and maybe, just
       maybe....there'll be a "Bash '94."
       Mike
336.5Jan, 1994 and anxiousQETOO::TELIANMon Aug 16 1993 17:3113

    When: Jan 19 - 25, 1994
Where: ????? Open to suggestions, my wife wants in the park.
Why: It's been three years, kids are 10 and 8 don't know about trip.
How: TWA 2 for 1 tickets
    From: Boston to Orlando
Last Time: 1991, quick trip up from Ft Lauderdale

If you have recommendations on resorts amd packages, let me know. I'm
thinking about Port Orleans, Caribbean Beach and Dixie Landings.

Also, can you inform me about the different sections of some of the
    resorts too???
336.6VMSDEV::FERLANDECamds: FIX your OpenVMS problemsMon Aug 23 1993 15:0442
336.7Sounds good....'94 not '93 WREATH::SCOPAMon Aug 23 1993 15:2913
    >>>How: Thomas Cook Values vacation ( US Air...)... For both families
it comes out to about $5200

So it's $2600 for each family? WHat does that $2600 include? If that
price gets you airfare, lodging, admission, and car rental then
you're getting a pretty good deal, depending upon the admission
media. I think that air, lodging, and 10-days admission media is
       also a pretty good deal.

After meals and souvenirs you may find yourself getting close to, if
       not over, the $4k mark.

    Mike
336.8VMSDEV::FERLANDECamds: FIX your OpenVMS problemsMon Aug 23 1993 17:2426

Yeah, 94 not 93... Of course when 94 rolls around I'll still write
    93 on my checks..

Anyways, air, lodging, admission, and transfer... Car rental would
tack on about $200 or so for each family... THe admission as I
understand it is all parks as one would get from CBR anyways..
SHould I be concerned about getting less? Then again, our wives
pretty much took care of being at the travel agent...

$4000 is about what we expect to spend total at a minimum... THe
actual is like 2500 for us and 2700 for the other family.. Our
"2 year" old will actually be under 2 at the time (although some
may not believe it), so we don't have to pay for his pass.

I was pretty surprised and pleased by the price.. I couldn't quite
fathom the 6300 vs. 5200 for Delta vs. TCV vacations.. The real
difference is that TCV gets there later in the day ... Delta leaves
at 6AM (ouch!)... I really can't see paying an extra 500 for the
    one half day...

    John

336.9Sounds Pretty GoodWREATH::SCOPAMon Aug 23 1993 17:5916
Sounds like a good deal John.

10 nights at the CBR next May is probably just over $1K.

Airfare is tricky....maybe no cheaper than $900 for 4 these days.

Five Day SD Passes for 2 adults and 1 child would probably
be around $500 next Spring so if you got BOG passes for 10 days for
around $600 you are doing VERY WELL.

That $4k mimimum price tag you mentioned will depend upon how/where you
eat and what kind of souvenirs Mom and Dad like.

I'm with you regarding the Delta vacation packages.

Where: Comfort Inn Crossroads
Why: Stupid Question
How: By air direct from Manchester, England
Last Time: Disneyworld 1988, 1990, 1991, Disneyland 1993.

Trip courtesy of Thomas Cook who are offering 10% discount for early
reservation and British Airways Airmiles (frequent flyer points) that
  provided a further 22%.

I would appreciate some information from my colonial cousins on
likely crowd and weather conditions when I am there. My previous
visits have been in March and August.
336.11Very Warm to Hot - Crowded to Very CrowdedWREATH::SCOPAWed Sep 01 1993 20:167
Weather conditions will be very FLorida-ish Robin. Expect high heat
and possible thundershowers (5-15 minutes) every day. I expect that
you'll see the crowds getting a bit larger as you move into June and
that also means a greater chance of running into our Brazillian
    neighbors in June.

336.13A quick trip in May! :)CUPMK::JETTEThu Sep 16 1993 15:4522
    OK - I Admit it - I just can't stay away!
What has prompted this quick little trip was my daughter's reaction to
seeing Mickey and Minney on the big screen at the Disney Store. She
was so excited she cried. It was amazing. I wish I was in the position
of staying for a week or two - but circumstances are otherwise so....

WHO: Myself, David (12 then), Katie (4 then - first time), Grammy
    WHEN: May 14th to 18th
    WHERE: CBR - Martinique
HOW: Air - looking for a good fare
OTHER: Character Breakfast at the Contemporary is planned.

PURPOSE: This is a quick fix - but our expectations are to cover the
Magic Kingdom and Starland completely over the 4 days. I'm sure we'll
visit the other parks but the priority this time is for my daughter to
see MK. We'll be back for a LONG vacation in '97 to cover the rest.

    The countdown begins.....

WHO: Bill, Pat, Amy (14) and Emily (9)
    When: April 14-23
    Where: Dolphin (at least part)
    How: Delta
    Why: 3 reasons
         First. It's been a while; 1991
Second. Because it's free. I just love radio contests.
Third: Even better is even though "we" won it's under my
father-in-laws social security number so he gets the 1099.

Trip includes airfare, the Dolphin, four passes, car rental and some
other incidentals. We actually won this about 5 months ago but just
    decided when we are going.

    Bill

P.S. There will be NO trip report unless I can get someone to file it
for me since I'm leaving Digital on my own 11/19/93.
336.1650th birthday surprise25071::GARDNERWed Nov 03 1993 16:1918
Who: Me, my husband, and two college age kids
    When: Jan. 8 -13, 1994
Where: Residence Inn, off the property
Why: This is a surprise 50th birthday gift for my husband.

As of right now he doesn't have a clue that we are going. It is
so hard to be excited about this and not be able to share it
with him. The kids want it to be a total surprise and just get
him to the airport on the 8th. I want to give the guy a break and
at least give him some time to look forward to it. Right now I am
trying to think of some really neat way to surprise him either at
Thanksgiving or Christmas. It has been 5 years since we have
been there and it is going to be such a treat for all of us.
Especially the poor parents who are wrestling with college tuition.
But you turn 50 only once, right. Can I put "much needed vacation
    on the financial aid forms."

336.17MVDS02::BELFORTIPFYOWSWed Nov 03 1993 17:554
A suggestion on how to do it for Christmas!!!!

WHO: Julie, Wally, Craig (13), Lauren (10), Kyle (3)
    When: April 24-May 1
Where: Currently Booked @ Dixie Landing, but seriously considering
            the Y&B Club
How: Capital $198 R/T thru Shaws Jetaway, since their flights leave at
7:00am (yawn) we're staying over the night before at Comfort Inn,
Revere $85 and includes parking for the week. Has anyone ever
            done this, is it safe?
Rental Car: National-Intermediate Car ($114), transfers via Mears for the
5 our us was $80, so the car will work out just fine.
Why: An early 20th Anniversay (July) to ourselves, unlike some people, we
would never go to Fla in July. Also, the cheap airfare helped with
our decision, and we've been waiting for Kyle to be old enough
            (no diapers).
    Last Trips: 1/90, 4/75
Tell the Kids: I'm going to the Disney store and purchase the 5-day
passes and character sweatshirts and wrap them up for a "BIG"

I know it's 5 months away, but the excitement is getting to me, and I'm
    already not sleeping at night!

When:	Sun. 1/16 - Fri. 1/21

Who:	Bill Abrams (me), my sister Alice, my nephew Jason (age 8)
	Digital Consulting, Rochester, NY

Where:	Contemporary Resort (4 night/5 day package, last night at
	Lake Buena Vista Comfort Inn.)

Why:	My wife's commission checks were really good last year so we
decided to give one BIG gift to my sister... and I though, what
would an 8-year-old and his single mom living on a waitress's
income like? She saved enough for plane fare and I picked up
	the rest.

Last:	My wife and I have gone almost every year. We've stayed offsite
a few times, and at the Contemporary, Port Orleans, and
	the Beach Club (twice.)

Regrets: That my wife can't go...not enough vacation time. But don't
feel too bad. Remember those big commission checks? She also
gets to go to Hawaii in Febrary, without me.

(p.s. I laughed at my wife for writing "1993" on January 1. I first
entered this note under Sign-in 1993 visitors. Don't tell her, please.)

Who: Susan and Mike (my nephew, age 11 by then); I'm trying to talk my
sister into going with her son, Andrew (age 3) for part of the trip!
And my friend Jeff is considering joining us with his "little brother,"
Mitchell (age 12) for five days.

Where: All Star Sports or Port Orleans

    Why: Because we like you!

Last visit:	May, 1992 with my mother and grandmother; Mike's last visit
*with me* was in August, 1990, but he went in February, 1993 with my

Every winter I go down to visit my mother in the Florida Keys. Once in a while
I stop off at The World for a few days. This year I've got the -ittis bad so
I'm not only adding a whole week at The World to my annual trip but I'm also
planning to finish off a long cross country trip in the fall with another week!

Since the week in the fall will be on-property, without a car, and since I
can't afford two weeks on-property (hey, I work for Digital too ;-) this trip
I'm staying off-property. The Wynfield was recommended in this conference and
by friends, plus they have a corporate rate of $45/night, so I'll be staying
there.

Why: Because me and the kids have never to to WDW, or Florida. My
husband lived and worked in Orlando about 20 years ago. I'm sure
he'll be quite surprised by how much things have changed.

the load for the trip from Central NH.

This is the first visit to DW for all of us except my oldest child who
went with other relatives about 4 years ago. We have not told any of
the children about this trip yet even tho we have been planning it
since last June and had our reservation confirmation in November.
Keeping this a secret this long has been one of the hardest things I
have ever done and I swear my tongue is about 8 inches shorter than
it used to be!!! We will tell the kids on April 2nd at a combined
dinner for the two families at which we will have Chinese food topped
off with fortune cookies which have had their "normal" fortunes
extracted and our own home-grown "DW hints" fortunes inserted. As each
child (from old to young) opens a cookie, the hints will become broader
and broader so that, hopefully, by the time the youngest reads hers,
light will dawn and, most likely, pandemonium will set in!!

This file has been a real help to us in our planning - thanks to all
contributors for their helpful hints and real-life experiences - keep

336.35Ken made me enter this note. Mike, you know who that is.RAGS::GINGRASThu Mar 31 1994 20:4221
Well, we've had plans to go to WDW for a while now, and Ken kept reminding
me that I had to enter a note here, and then a trip report when I got back.

My family and I are going on April 24 and returning May 1. We've got one
of those campers in Fort Wilderness because we're just one of those families
who likes to rough it. Needless to say, everyone's looking forward to
the trip. I've been using the trip to great advantage keeping my 10-year-old
girls in line ("hey, stop fighting. Who wants to stay home while the rest
of us go to Disney World?")

We'll be flying down on Tree Top Airlines, which I understand doesn't actually
land. They pass out parachutes and there's a rebate prize if 50% of your
family can land in Typhoon Lagoon.

In any case, we're pretty much ready. If any of you are down there at the
same time, you shouldn't have much trouble spotting us. I have identical
twin girls who don't often stray from each other. I don't do sun well, so
you can usually spot me as I run from one shady patch to another. I'll,
of course, be wearing a Digital baseball cap (with burgundy logo and
slanted 't'). So if you see us, just walk up and say "hey! Why the hell
aren't you at work?" I'll just smile and say "It's okay. I left Ken in charge".

We've gotten into the Disney spirit with the wedding too - we got a

OK, I'll finally admit it. It's close enough now, that we are
starting to get a little excited, so it's time to fess up. Reading
JaneB's trip report to CBR with two girls the same ages as my boys
	has really got me psyched!

	Who: The Beals family:
		Me (Susan;10 'at heart'),Hubby (Doug:age 12 'at heart'),
Jeffrey (8), and Evan (just 6)

	When: May 21-May 26

	Where: CBR

Why: Because we are all "at the right age" to see "the World!"

Actually we've been saving for four years and
planning for one. This notes file has been extremely helpful.
Last week-end we sat down to plan an itinerary and compared notes
between Birnbaum's and the notes file (mostly trip reports). When a
discrepancy occurred, we went with the info in the notes, as it was
   more current.

How: Tour package through Stewart Travel, Hudson, NH.
		$2700 air, 5 nights @CBR, 5 day passes, car,
Character breakfast, one lunch, and discount tickets to
Seaworld (which we will be going to on the 28th after
		Universal on the 27th).

Had a difficult time trying to book on my own. Airfare alone was
quoted @ almost $2000 at the time, and I didn't have time to keep
a constant watch on the airfare wars between then and now to
negotiate a lower fare. For the convenience alone, the travel
agency route was the best way for us to go.

	Previous trips:
Susan and Doug: Sept 1985 (b.c. - before children!)
Doug: March 1976 (hard to believe only TMK was there then!)
	Boys: Never!

We did not directly tell the boys when exactly we were
going, "Oh, around the end of May" was always the standard
answer. The oldest has figured out the exact date. Hopefully
the youngest won't, as his birthday was the end of April and
all we heard for the entire month was there were X # of days
until his birthday! As we did not want to go through that
for the month of May we opted not to tell them the exact date.
His brother is sworn to secrecy!

336.45a really happy endingTNPUBS::FEELEYGrowing older but not up...Tue May 24 1994 17:4978
In the planning for our next visit to WDW, we've had some interesting
things happen that I'd like to share with you. We started our planning
    in the beginning of February.

We decided that we wanted to go at the end of August for a couple of
reasons: the crowds go down slightly (at least in the past) and the
room rates go down. This year, the value season starts on Sunday
August 14. We wanted to go down on the 13th, so we called CRO to see
what was available. What we ended up with was:
13th Port Orleans, Pool view. We made the reservation for 3
nights because we like Port Orleans and maybe we'll stay
    		there for that long.

14-16	Beach Club @ MKC rates.
19	Beach Club @ MKC rates.
21-24	Beach Club @ MKC rates.

14-28	Wilderness Lodge @ MKC rates

We want to stay at the Beach Club, so we get what is available and get
on the wait list for the remaining days. However, we want to try the
Wilderness Lodge, but we don't know when. A lot of the timing depends
on what we get for the Beach Club. We would prefer to go from Port
Orleans to Wilderness Lodge to Beach Club.

However, we may have a conflict occur during the last week of August,
so just in case, we make reservations for Port Orleans for Aug. 6-13
(through the wait list, this gets extended to the 20th). Remember
    this, it is important.

The MKC rates are approximately $157.xx for the Beach CLub and $138.xx
for the Wilderness Lodge. We are very pleased with the Beach Club
rates, but we are hoping for good news when the annual passholder rates
are announced (the current special provides for a 50% discount at the
Beach Club - the MKC discount is 30%).

By constantly calling CRO, we are able to get the dates filled in from
14-18 and 19-28, but we can't get the 18th! So, we can't make final
plans as to when we will stay at the Wilderness Lodge. Finally, about
the middle of May, we ask the cast member can't she please see if the
18th is available at MKC rates. She goes away and after a while comes
back and says yes, we can have the 18th. So, we have the full 14 days
at MKC rates - our persistence has paid off. You should always keep
trying to get what you want. We've found that if you don't like what
one cast member is saying, call back and see if the next one tells you
something better. When you get an answer you like, make sure you have
the cast members name, the date, and the reservation number.

So, here we are very happy with our vacation plans. But lo and behold,
yesterday we get a letter from Carole someone or other, telling us that
we are valued customers and they'd like to offer us an upgrade on our
Aug 6-20 reservations at Port Orleans to one of their full-service
resorts *for the same price* (similar to what other people have
reported). And one of the possibilities is *The Beach Club*!

So, of course we call them right away, and after a lot of sweet talking
(to make a long story slightly less long) we can change our reservation
to 6-20 to 6-15 and get a Beach Club reservation for Aug 6-15 @ $97.90,
including tax. We had to make a one-for-one switch and the 16th was
sold out completely (so he said). We wait a while and call back, and
say we really don't want to shorten our vacation - can they please try
to do something for us? In fact we were thinking of staying longer
than the 20th, but now we will have to go elsewhere and spend our money
elsewhere. So the cast member goes off and talks with her supervisor,
then comes back and says there have been some cancellations since I
last called, and we can stay at the Beach Club from Aug 6-26 for $97.90
a night. Perseverance really pays off. Remember, if you don't like
what one person says, try someone else. And acting dumb doesn't hurt -
it can create a little sympathy.

Anyway, the bottom line is we can stay at the Beach Club for $97.90 a
night. We'll probably stay at the Wilderness Lodge for the last two
nights, and we'll call today to see if we can changes our start date to
the 13th, since something has come up and we can't arrive on the 6th as
    we had planned...

Four rows across is not that common on Jets. The wide ones, yes -

We really need a stress reliever so what better way than a long
weekend at Disney World. We got great prices on Delta $101
roundtrip from Atlanta to we won't have to waste any time driving
We are going to suprize my son. His birthday is the day after we
get back from our trip. So we are most definitely going for dinner
at Chef Mickeys so Mickey himself can sing happy birthday. He may
expect this every year at his birthday, but I think I could deal with
that. We plan to spend more time at Typhoon Lagoon and Epcot this
time, but I can't wait for that first time I hit Main Street.

    	I am so excited!!!!!!

Well, I have a modification to my reply...

We were going to stay at the Wilderness Lodge, mostly because
we couldn't afford to stay at the Polynesian again this year.
When I called to make sure they received my deposit check, the
nice lady said I could save some money by using the Jolly Holidays
package instead of the Resort Magic package.

So for the same money we were going to spend on the Wilderness Lodge,
we are staying the the Grand Floridian. My husband and I spent so
much time there last year, but we figured we'd never be able to
afford it. She made us two very happy newlyweds!

Me: I'm going again this year, but this time I get to take my wife.
Her: We're going to Disneyworld this fall because you went without me
     in January!

Who:	Bill & Diane Abrams, Rochester, NY

When:	Thursday October 13 - Sunday October 23

Where:	Disney's Vacation Club (as a hotel...maybe it will convince us
to own a piece of the Mouse)

What:	5 night/6 day Resort Magic Package with Food & Fun, $1800

What Else:
Ramada Resort Maingate at the Parkway first three nights so we will
finally see Seaworld and Universal before hiding out in the world.
Two nights in Tampa afterward, a stop at Busch Gardens, and a return
flight from Tampa because frequent flier seats are unavailable from
    	Orlando.

Other Visits:
Many! I took my sister and nephew to the Contemporary Resort in
January. We both went for our 10th anniversary last September,
and the year before that too. We've gone almost every year since 84.

We couldn't:
Get a room at the Beach Club, seems everyone else is discovering our
favorite place. Instead, we'll get a one bedroom suite at the
Vacation Club for the same price. The kitchen, washer/dryer, living
room, and jacuzzi tub will hopefully make up for the remote location.

Should I start writing the trip report now?
