314.0. "Driving to Euro Disney" by SBPEXE::PREECE (That's MISTER Megalomaniac to you....) Tue Jun 30 1992 11:39

OK, protests and politics notwithstanding, we're going !

In August, we are driving down to spend a couple of days in ED, and a
few more exploring the countryside and rediscovering Paris.
(I promised a certain young lady to bring her back to Paris one day.....it's
taken me 20 years, and there's three of us now, but I'm finally delivering!)

A few questions, if I may, in the hope that some of our French viewers may be
able to assist...... ( I believe I asked this a little while ago, rather more
vaguely, but plans are firming up, now, so I need the detail!)

We're crossing from Poole to Cherbourg, the main reason being that we
live about 10 minutes from the ferry terminal at Poole, and we want to visit
a couple of places near Cherbourg on the way back....However, the ferry won't
get us there until about 6pm, so my concern is to find the fastest route to
where we've booked a hotel (Charenton, to the SE of Paris).

I'd guess, looking at the map, that we need to head down the peninsula and
pick up the Autoroute de Normandie (? -I forget the number...) somewhere around
Caen, which takes us straight down to Paris, then around the Periperique to
Charenton.

Questions: Is there a quicker way ?

How long will it take ?

How much are the road tolls likely to be ?

Assuming we're arriving at the edge of Paris in mid-evening (Saturday),
what's the traffic going to be like around the P'rique ?

Does anyone know where the train to ED picks up ?
It would be perfect if we could leave the car in Charenton and ride to ED on the
train...

Any and all information gratefully received....

Thanks
Ian

314.1My thoughts exactly!LARVAE::TILSON_VWed Jul 29 1992 13:219
I am on vacation in Normondy in early Sept and also want to visit ED by
road or train (which ever is easiest).
Great minds think alike, as I asked a similar question to yours in the
Paris conference with no helpful response.

So, If you do find an easy route, I'd be pleased to hear about it.

314.2The Channel TunnelWREATH::SCOPATue Dec 07 1993 16:0414
For those unaware, the Channel Tunnel, a "EuroTunnel System" between
Folkestone and Calais, is schedule to open in May 1994.

This will allow for two methods of travel; one for passengers traveling
with their own car, and one for rail passengers operating from Waterloo
International Station in London to Paris and Brussels (Eurostar).

I guess it will take only 35 minutes to get from Folkestone to Calais.

I'm sure our friends/noters in the United Kingdom are aware of this but
for those in the U.S. you should note that this "quantum leap in
surface transportation" is touched upon by the EuroDisney brochures.
