| Here is a little information strictly from memory, it may not be very
exact. Some of it is extrapolated from a typical existing cruise
following the expected same format disney will use.
The 2 ships I believe are about 70,000 tons each, each should hold just over
2,000 passengers assuming 2 in each cabin, typicaly cruise will
probably have that many plus 500 additional children. I believe there
will be a fairly large percentage of outside rooms, this is common in
new ship construction because this generates more income and people
desire outside rooms anyway. Expect a large number with small private
verandahs etc.
I am pretty sure I remember Disney has purchased an Island in the Bahamas
to serve as the "Beach" day during cruise which is common for many
cruises to/from Florida to Bahamas. I also believe the island will have
docking facilities which will allow the ship to tie up to and thus
eliminate the need to ferry people from the ship to the island which
is what occurs for all others that do this. This would be a very nice
plus.
Format would be a standard 7 day cruise/land package.
Either 3 days land and 4 days cruise or
4 days land and 3 days cruise.
I believe you have to get the package, you would not be able to take
just a 3 or 4 day cruise ?? This could change later. I am sure you will
be able to add additional days for land package.
Typically in these package deals there is a limit to the flexibility of
adding days and using the package air fare. For those that want maximum
flexibility then just arrange your own air or transportation and take
the cruise/accomodations only part of package.
The cruise would include all meals etc., typically the land portion of
package would not.
I assume ships will go to and from Port Canaveral, or at least one
will.
A typical 7 day package could be (4 nights WDW, 3 night cruise)
Day 1 travel and arrive ORlando, check into Disney hotel.
Day 2 at WDW
Day 3 at WDW
Day 4 at WDW
Day 5 checkout, drive to Port Canaveral, park car, board ship
in afternoon. ship would leave around 5 PM
Day 6 cruise, stop at private island 8 AM, beach day,
lv island 5 PM
Day 7 cruise, stop at Nassau during day
Day 8 get off ship early AM, go to airport, go home.
For 4 night cruise, 3 day WDW, just subtract 1 day from land and add
one day at sea, they may cruise at sea that day or visit something
else in Bahamas.
extended times could be added on beginning or end of package typically.
Typically higher end rooms on ship translate into higher end rooms on
land. So people in most expensive cabins might stay at Grand Floridian,
etc. or other high end rooms at WDW, usually you can do upgrades etc.
So you may have a cheaper room on ship but pay extra and upgrade hotel
room, etc.
This information is partially based on limited facts and the rest is
quess work.

DISNEY CRUISE LINE bought a 1,000 acre Bahamian island in the Abacos that
will be used as a private stop when the line's two ships begin sailing in
1998. The undeveloped island, called Gorda Cay, is about 225 nautical
miles from Port Canaveral. Disney plans to build a dock on the island. The
Disney cruise vacation will feature a three or four day stay at a Walt Disney
