PART XIV

                           IN THE FUTURE
                           -------------

This section is reserved for information regarding resorts,
attractions and other items of that nature that have not been
opened yet, are still on the drawing board, have just opened
within the last revision, or are under construction. There is
also information on new Disney Animated and Touchstone films. The
information in this section comes from Disney News magazine,
Disney related sources (ie. Annual Report), newspaper clippings,
rec.arts.disney on the news-net, and friends that have just
returned from their visit. Due to the nature of this section, I
can not guarantee that any of these plans will become a reality.
This section is for the kind of person that MUST know what Disney
is doing at all times and I don't know of any other source where
this information is all put together.

    Well it's official now...read on...

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (UPI) -- Walt Disney Co. said Tuesday it is
planning to add five resort hotel projects, in addition to three now
under construction, at the Walt Disney World Resort in central Florida.
The entertainment giant said the projects are slated for completion
within five years.
The announcement is the third that Disney has made within the past
week about a major expansion. The company said last week that it would
build a sports center on Walt Disney World property, with the idea of
opening by 1996; it also outlined plans for a ``Disney's America'' theme
park in Prince William County, Va., due to open in 1998 at an estimated
cost of $500 million.
The expansion at Walt Disney World is designed to help expand the
theme park's reputation as a sports destination. Disney officials said
they would continue to move forward with resort development as rapidly
as demand will support.
Walt Disney World, with Disney World, Epcot Center and the Disney-MGM
film studio, is already the nation's best draw, with an estimated 25
million visitors annually.
The new resort facilities under construction or in active planning
include:
-- Blizzard Beach, already under construction, a park including 19
water slides and ``icy'' bobsled runs and due to open in early 1995.
	-- Disney's All-Star Sports Resort, southwest of Disney-MGM Studios
and featuring giant sports icons and 1,920 rooms. It will start to open
in phases next summer.
-- Disney's All-Star Music Resort, just south of the sports resort,
featuring a giant walk-through neon-lit jukebox, guitar-shaped swimming
pool and three-story cowboy boots. Its 1,920 rooms will begin opening in
early 1995.
-- a third All-Star Resort is planned with an additional 1,900 rooms
to open in 1998.
	-- Disney's Wilderness Lodge, which will feature a geyser-filled
courtyard and an atrium with 55-foot lodge-pole pines and 729 guest
rooms. Opening is set for next June.
-- Disney's Wilderness Junction Resort, a companion to Wilderness
Lodge to be located in the woods at the end of a nature trail with 575
rooms. It is tentatively scheduled for opening in the spring of 1997.
-- Shades of Green on Walt Disney World Resort, to be operated as a U.
S. Armed Forces Recreation Center, with 288 rooms. It is scheduled for
opening in February.
	-- Disney's Boardwalk Resort, designed as a turn-of-the-century
Atlantic City facility with a 15,000-square-foot convention center, 375
hotel guest rooms and 525 Disney Vacation Club villas. It will open in
1996.
-- Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, built in an American Southwest
style and priced in the moderate range with 95,000 square feet of
meeting space and 1,980 rooms. It is set for an opening in spring 1996.
-- Disney's Mediterranean Resort, to be built on the monorail line
leading to Walt Disney World with 1,000 rooms and a convention facility
with more than 65,000 square feet of meeting space.
	-- Planet Hollywood will open a 400-seat entertainment-restaurant at
the Walt Disney World Resort near Pleasure Island in late 1994.

Disney seems to be spending too many resources expanding the hotel
facilities and too little resources improving the parks. The
transportation system is seriously over capacity requiring you to
rent a car causing in turn more parking problems. There is only 1 major
new attraction in WDW under construction, while the simulation rides
are outclassed by Universal Studios and even SeaWorld. Heck, they have
built more new golf courses than new attractions in last 5 years.

I've been told that Shades Of Green (US Armed Forces rec. center) will
actually "replace" the current Disney Inn. That would disappoint me.
Can anyone confirm that what I heard was true?

The Disney Inn is being converted to Shades of Green for the US Armed
Forces with Disney having the option to "rent" it back on certain weeks
    during the year.

Other news in today's (Nov 29, 1993) Orlando Sentinel's Central Florida
    Business section:

"Innoventions", a showcase of future products is scheduled to open in
June at EPCOT. It will is part of the transformation of CommuniCore.

EPCOT would be increasing its emphasis on education. Next year, it
will admit all accredited US school teachers without charge and broaden
it's appeal for schools with new books, magazines and televised specials
    on the Disney Channel.

"Splashtacular" a music and aquatics show opened over Thanksgiving. It
is being held at the fountain in the center of CommuniCore. (I happen
to see a "dress rehearsal" - very impressive except it was windy that
day and the fountain jets of water came pouring down on Mickey, the
dancers and audience. 90 percent of the audience ran for it -
including myself. You had to get back as far as the monorail loop to
avoid the spray. Mickey is hoisted in a "cherry-picker" type lift
above the fountain to "conduct" the water/music; poor Mickey got
stranded in the air because so much water shorted out the lift. It
took them a half hour to get him down - this was a show in itself but I
don't think Disney would like to do that part again!)

"The Mgical World of Barbie" song & dance show is scheduled to premier
    late December at EPCOT.

"Honey, I Shrunk the Theater" a 3-D movie will replace "Captain EO" at
Journey into the Imagination theater next fall. It says replacing it
has nothing to do with the Michael Jackson's recent troubles.

A new finale for the Sapceship Earth ride - it will close sometime next
year for refurbishment which will be completed in late 1994.

The Universe of Energy pavilion will be updated by 1996. Exxon
sponsorship contract has expired and hasn't signed a new one. If they
don't Disney will look for another sponsor.

At the Magic Kingdom, Tomorrowland will be converted to look like what
science-fiction futurists of the 1920s and '30s would have imagined.
Auntie Gravity's restaurant will be added, along with
Extra'terror'estrial Alien Encounter ride. The rockets will be
converted to AstroOrbiter which will be more of the Buck Rogers
Vintage. (By the way, Carousel of Progress, has just been updated.)

Disney's Boardwalk is scheduled to open in the summer 1996. The
project will have a seashore theme with mix shopping, dining,
entertainment and miniature golf course and 1920s-style dance hall. A
15,000 sq.ft. convertion center attached to the 900 room Boardwalk
Resort, of mix hotel rooms and time-share units is included.

Other hotels planned: Coronado Springs, a Southwest-style resort. The
Mediterranean Resort, Greek Isles-style, to be located along the
monorail line to the Magic Kingdom (no opening date set yet). A third
phase to be added to the Al-Star Resorts (set to open in 1998).

354.10Bad News and Good NewsWREATH::SCOPAThu Mar 10 1994 17:1315
    From Skip Williams:

Well the bad news is that the Magic Journeys 3D film is history.

The good news is that this will be replaced by a Lion King show that
will entertain you in a manner similar to VOTLM. That is, film and
puppets in front of a black curtain, and all that jazz will make up the
    production.

I guess they're expecting TLK to be popular enough to spend the time
and expense to create this new attraction.

This show is supposed to open THIS SUMMER so make sure you see TLK
before you go down if you are among the lucky visiting Orlando later
    this year.

I remeber watching MJ at three in the morning at DL on my Grad Night in

Is this damning with faint praise? I go to Disneyland every few weeks,
and NEVER to Captain Ego (A friend of mine calls it "Captain Eeyore --
Watch Michael Jackson make a Donkey out of himself) unless the person
    I am with insists.

Magic Journeys was something I felt was worth seeing once. The second

The following is from EPCOT Outreach on October 1. The Subject
line is the title.

A viariety of exciting plans are taking shape throughout the WALT
DISNEY WORLD Resort! Here are just a few of the things you can
look forward to.... (Please note: All projects and opening dates
are subject to change without notice.)

MAGIC KINGDOM Park
------------------
Tomorrowland. A whole new Tomorrowland will take shape over the
next two years as the area becomes a fanatasy future city like
the machine-age dreams of science-fiction writers and
movie-makers of the 1920s and '30s. The land will harken back to
the time when the jet age, space age, and computer age seemed to
be only fantastic dreams.

Disney artists and architects are creating new facades to give
this future-town a friendly neighborhood atmosphere like other
Magic Kingdom lands. The new design shows a strong sense of humor
and fun, as seen in such locations as Auntie Gravity's Galactic
Goodies, Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe, Merchant of Venus, and The
Lunching Pad at Rockettower Plaxa. "The future that never was"
will arrive when the new Tomorrowland is completed in 1995.

Extra"terror"estrial Alien Encounter. The quintessential show in
New Tomorrowland, the Extra"terror"estrial Alien Encounter, is
planned as the most frightening thriller of all Magic Kingdom
adventures.

Playing on the "future city" theme, "Encounter" takes place in
the city's Convention Center. Manufacturer's representatives for
XS-Tech Company have come from their home planet to market their
latest product to Earthlings. Their "Teletransporter," they
claim, transforms a being into a collection of electrons so that
he can be beamed through space from one planet to another.

After canvassing the audience for volunteers, the salesmen first
decide to use their own chief executive for the
teletransportation demonstration from their planet to Earth. The
test suddenly becomes catastrophic when the space signal is lost.
Electronics go wild, lights go out, and the most frightening
alien creature imaginable comes crashing out of the glass chamber
in the center of the audience.

The show, which replaces Mission to Mars, breaks new ground with
special audio and visual effects playing on the audience's own
fears and imaginings to reach a chaotic, emotional experience.
(Opening February 1995.)

Metropolis Science Centre. Because time-travel was such a
prominent part of early science-fiction writers' visions, Walt
Disney "Imagineers" are using Circle-Vision 360 combined with
Audio-Animatronics(R) figures and special in-theater effects to
create the illusion that Disney guests are traveling back to
centuries past and ahead to those yet-to-come in a new
fourth-dimension adventure. In the Transportarium, today's
travelers will meet famous inventors and visionaries of the
machine age while they travel through time. (Opening February
1995.)

Epcot
-----
Major plans moving Epcot into the 21st century are underway.
Beginning in 1994, Epcot will become an ever-evolving showplace
with changes instituted each year.

Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. This 3-D adventure will take its
cue from futuristic technologies "demonstrated" in two hit Disney
films; this time, however, it's the audience that will "shrink"
instead of the kids. Spectacular in-theater effects, including
moving seats, will enhance the three-dimensional film technology
developed by The Walt Disney Studios in this entertaining film,
presented by Kodak in the Magic Eye Theater at Journey into
Imagination. (Opening late 1994.)

Spaceship Earth. In a dazzling new finale, the audience will be
placed in the heart of a communications revolution amid
interactive global networks that tie all the peoples of the world
together. Magical special effects, animated sets, and
audience-enclosing laser beams are used to create an exciting
experience. In the "Global Neighborhood" at the end of the
journey through Spaceship Earth, guests will enjoy new shows that
envelop the participant, demonstrating such emerging technologies
as voice recognition, video telephony, and the future information
highway. <Ed Note: This is referring to Earth Station, which is
also closed> Spaceship Earth is presented by AT&T. (Completion
late 1994.)

Plans are also being developed for new enhancements in World of
Motion.

Fourth Theme Park
-----------------
The Company is still formulating plans for a fourth entertainment
theme park at the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort, which would open by
the end of the decade.

Resort Area
-----------
Disney's All-Star Resorts. Imagine entering your hotel around a
large shark fin, huge whistle, or three-story cowboy boots... or
walking up a stairway shaped like a football, megaphone, or conga
drum. That's exactly what guests can expect at Disney's All-Star
Resorts, under construction at the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort.

The economy-priced resort will be developed in phases, each with
a central theme, using oversized sports and music icons on the
resort's exterior. Miami-based Arquitectonica designed the resort
in conjunction with Disney Development Co. on a 246-acre site at
the northwest quadrant of the World Drive and Highway 192
interchange.

Phase One, Disney's All-Star Sports Resort, is now open. For
those who prefer song to sport, Phase Two -- Disney's All-Star
Music Resort -- will offer an al-"tune"-ative. Scheduled to open
in early 1995, the All-Star Music Resort will entertain with a
variety of song and dance delights. The music score of "When You
Wish Upon a Star" adorns the interior curtains, while matching
bedspread and wallpaper patterns highlight musical memories.

* The "Country Fair" entrance feature huge cowboy boots; fiddles
and banjos decorate the front facade topped with rolling hills of
the great Western plains.

* Saxophones, trombones, and trumpets adorn the "Jazz Inn"
entrance while a unique music note design accompanies aficionados
down the exterior walkways.

* A walk-through neon-lit juke box welcomes "Rock Inn" guests.

* "Broadway" boasts railings bedecked in bow ties, gloves, and
canes, and a giant Broadway theater marquee at the entrance.

* For the music of the island, "Calypso," with its magnificent
maracas, is a tropical treat. A Spanish guitar-shaped pool
invites guests for a relaxing dip in island water and further
complements this music theme with a nearby Caribbean-style
residence that houses the guest laundry.

The "All-Star" theme is evident throughout the Resorts with its
glimmering shapes appearing in each room and both commercial
building. A food court in each offers a variety of dining
options, providing sports and music lovers with choices of pizza,
barbecue, bakery treats, hamburgers and hot dogs, and general
edibles. Guests will have the opportunity to pay for their meal
selections at a central cash register, enabling them to
experience a variety of dining options without the inconvenience
of paying at each specific location. A retail shop will offer
Disney gifts, sundries, fashion items, and themed merchandise. As
an added amenity, an outdoor pool bar accompanies each food court
for the benefit of guests enjoying the resort's unique poolside
atmosphere.

With 3,840 rooms projected through Phase Two, Disney's All-Star
resorts will become the largest resort in the WALT DISNEY WORLD
Vacation Kingdom, surpassing the 2,112 rooms of Disney's
Caribbean Beach Resort and the 3,056 of Disney's Port Orlean and
Dixie Landings Resorts. An additional 1,900 rooms are planned in
phase three of the All-Star Resorts, schedules to be completed in
1998, bringing the total to 5,740 rooms.

Disney's All-Star Sports and Music Resorts will be surrounded by
pristine forests and natural three-quarters of a mile east of
Disney's All-Star Resorts. A short bus ride transports guests
from the unique environment to the magic of the WALT DISNEY WORLD
theme parks.

Planet Hollywood. Internationally famous Planet Hollywood will
open a glamorous 400-seat entertainment restaurant at the WALT
DISNEY WORLD Resort in late 1994. Renowned Hollywood
personalities are among the fans of this modern movie-memorabilia
Mecca. Just outside the gated area of Pleasure Island adjacent to
AMC Theatres, Planet Hollywood will add a dynamic new dimensions
to the nightclubs, shops, and dining experiences of the nearby
entertainment complex and a complement to the Disney-MGM Studios
and other parts of the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort. With Robert Earl
and Keith Barish at the head of the company, its owners include
Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Demi
Moore, who are expected to be on hand for a gala premiere.

Blizzard Beach. As legend has it... Blizzard Beach was created
by a freak winter storm which dropped snow over the western side
of the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort and Florida's first snow-ski
resort was planned immediately.

However, the plan was short-lived. Temperatures soared and the
ice and snow rapidly began to melt. Dismayed ski-resort
operators, ready to close, spotted a playful alligator sliding
down the "liquid ice" slopes and realized that the melting snow
created the most exhilarating water-filled ski and toboggan runs
in the world. As a result, the ski resort/water-adventure park
was born.

It was a natural. Former ski-slalom courses and bobsled and
sledding runs became downhill water slides. The chair lift could
still carry swimmers to the top of the slides. The ski jump
became the world's tallest and fastest water slide. The melting
snow revealed welcoming beaches, two children's play areas, and
many other activities. Blizzard Beach was born!

The most eye-catching attractions at Blizzard Beach can be found
on the slopes of Mt. Gushmore. As guests enter the park, they are
greeted by the busy view of "skiers" sliding down the face of the
90-foot snow-capped mountain. Mt. Gushmore geatures moguls,
slalom courses, toboggan and water sled runs, and the awesome,
120-foot-high Summit Plummet, the world's tallest and fastest
free-fall speed slide, visible from almost anywhere in the park.
From the top of the "ski jump" tower, it's a breathtaking 60mph
plunge straight bown to a splash landing at the base of the
mountain. Next to Summit Plummet is Slush Gusher, a speed slide
that drops guests through a snow-banked mountain gully. Although
shorter and a bit less severe than its neighbor, Slush Gusher is
taller than any other slide of its kind to date.

Mt. Gushmore's other attractions include:

* Teamboat Springs -- the world's longest family white-water raft
ride that takes six-passenger rafts down a twisting 1,200-foot
series of rushing waterfalls.

* Toboggan Racer -- an eight-lane water slide that sends guests
racing over exhilarating dips as they descent the "snowy" slope.

* Snow Stormers -- three flumes which descend from the top of the
mountain and follow a switchback course through ski-type slalom
gates.

* Sled Doggers -- a doggedly steep sled ride that eventually
sends guests hydroplaning, like skipping stones, across the
surface of a long catch pool.

* Runoff Rapids -- an inner-tube run, where guests careen down
twisting, turning flumes, passing through corrugated steel pipes
until falling into complete darkness.

* Chair Lift -- wooden-bench chair lifts sporting colorful
overhead beach umbrellas and snow skis on the underside,
converted from ski-resort to beach-resort use. These functional
chairs carry guests over the craggy face of Mt. Gushmore, from
its base at the beach to its summit.

The sandy beach below Mt. Gushmore offers a large wave pool, a
lazy river, two snack bars, and preteen and children's play
areas. Among its adventures:

* Tike's Peak -- a kid-size version of Blizzard Beach, including
scaled-down elements of Mt. Gushmore. In addition, this area
features a snow-castle-founction play area.

* Melt-Away Bay -- a one-acre pool, nestled against the base of
Mt. Gushmore, that is constantly fed by "melting snow"
waterfalls.

* Cross Country Creek -- a lazy creek circling the entire park,
carrying floating guests through a bone-chilling ice cave. Once
insde the mysterious cave, guests will be splashed with the
"melting" ice from overhead.

* Blizzard Beach Ski Patrol Training Camp -- designed for
preteens with bungie cord slides, a rope swing, a T-bar drop,
culvert slides, and a challenging ice-floe walk along slippery,
floating icebergs.

* Mogul Mania -- a wide-open slide area created by rapidly
"melting moguls," which is the first of its kind for water parks.

* Avalunch and The Warming Hut -- snack bars

The Village is at the east end of the beach and houses guest
services such as tube and towel rental, lockers, first aid,
merchandise, and a restaurant. Within the Village is the Beach
Haus, a specialty shop offering souvenirs, towels, bathing suits,
sunglasses, and other essentials for a day on the slopes or in
the water. Ski equipment and cold-weather furnishings such as
potbelly stoves are used to display merchandise. Nearby,
Lottawatta Lodge, a North American ski lodge with Caribbean
accents, stands ready to serve guests with an appetite. The
counter-service restaurant affords diners a view of Mt. Gushmore
and Melt-Away Bay beach.

Blizzard Beach will be located just north of the new Disney's
All-Star Resorts. (Opening Spring 1995.)

Disney Village Marketplace. When the Disney Village Marketplace
turns 20 in 1995, there will be much more to celebrate than a
major birthday milestone. A new look, with more shops, easier
access, and added amenities is sure to enhance this popular
neighborhood shopping and dining experience. Plans call for
improving traffic flow within the facility; adding a number of
character topiaries; introducing new signage and graphics; and
including a main fountain and several secondary fountains, as
well as new artisan kiosks where sidewalk vendors will display
handcrafted wares. Other added amenities include a new 300-seat
restaurant near the Empress Lily, an expansion of Guest Services
and Mickey's Character Shop, and the potential for future
merchandise shops to complement the balance of the current retail
offerings. There's also some old-fashioned fun in store. Kids
will delight in additional play areas and the chance to create
chalk drawings on the sidewalk.

Disney Institute. Disney Development Company is currently
working on the Disney Institute, an innovative resort experience
offering participative programs and activities which encourage
fun and discovery. Nestled in a scenic lakeside setting adjacent
to the Disney Village Marketplace, a typical Disney Institute
vacation will involve three, four, or seven days of creative
learning experiences, noted speakers, music and theatrical
performances, health and fitness functions, and recreational
activities.

Creative learning experiences integrate a variety of programs and
workshops, including:

* Disney Discovery -- where guests explore many facets of the
Disney organization, including animation, culinary arts,
storytelling, landscape, and interior design.

* Performing Arts -- where guests experience the creative
processes of artists and performers in music, dance, film and
theater.

* Sports and Fitness -- where guests can focus on personal as
well as environmental health while experiencing unique
recreational programs.

* Lifestyles -- where guests can learn more about themselves,
their families, their communities and cultures, and their world.

Fitness and sports enthusiasts will delight in the Human
Performance Center. In addition to a full range of fitness and
aerobic training classes, Disney Institute instructors will offer
evaluation and assistance in nutrition and lifestyle enhancement.
All ages can participate in unique sport camps and personalized
golf and tennis instruction.

The evening mealtimes, served family-style, will be themed to a
culture, style or special event. During dinner, video collages
will highlight the day's activities, providing an ideal
opportunity to catch a glimpse of family members and friends
participating in their own exciting Institute activities.

After dinner, the Disney Institute Performing Arts Hall, an
outdoor amphitheater, will come to life with an eminent guest
speaker or stimulating cultural performance. Guests can meet and
converse with noted speakers who visit the Disney Institute to
share their expertise on a variety of topics. (Replacing Disney's
Village Resort in Summer 1995.)

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. The sunny spirit of the U.S.
Southwest will shine brightly on Disney's Coronado Springs
Resort, opening in the summer of 1996 as the first Walt Disney
World moderately priced convention hotel.

Guests will find palm-shaded courtyards and elegant haciendas
that provide a romantic escape from the working world. More than
1,900 themed rooms and suites, designed in four- and five-story
structures complete with Spanish-style roofs and sand walls,
surround guests with traditional beauty of the American
Southwest. Ninety-five of these rooms are easily accessible to
the physically challenged.

Meeting space abounds in the hotel's 95,000-square-foot
convention center, which includes a 60,214-square-foot ballroom,
the largest hotel ballroom in the Southeast.

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort is ideal for groups with trade
show and exhibit requirements. More than 370 exhibit booths and
46 break-out rooms can support conventions of varied size. And
nine loading docks provide trucks with direct access to ballroom
areas.

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort guests can have fun in the
"southwest" sun relaxing on the white sand beach, renting
watercraft, swimming in one of four themed pools, or playing on
one of Disney's gold courses. Other amenities include a health
club, specialty shops, dining court, lounge, and full-service
restaurant.

The new resort will be located on 136 acres on the west side of
World Drive, just north of the Disney-MGM Studios interchange.
Rates are expected to be comparable to Disney's Dixie Landings
Resort.

Disney's International Sports Center. Plans are being completed
for a multimillion-dollar international amateur sports center
covering nearly 100 acres at the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort. The
new center will include a 5,000-seat main-event stadium, giant
multipurpose field house, tennis arena, multi-sport practice
fields, running tracks, fitness center, and training facilities.
It will provide professional-caliber training and competition
sites and vacation-fitness facilities for at least 25 individual
and team sports in its initial phase.

College, high school, and youth-league teams; amateur and senior
athletic groups; and individual professional and leisure-time
athletes will be invited to share in training, games, sports
camps, and athletic events as participants and spectators. The
center will server as headquarters for the WALT DISNEY WORLD
Marathon and the many other sports events taking place throughout
the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort.

Major components will include:

* Multi-Purpose Stadium -- adaptable for soccer, football,
baseball, and other field sports with 5,000 permanent covered
seats, plus additional temporary seating, night lighting,
clubhouses, and broadcast facilities.

* Multi-Sports Field House -- contains space for six basketball
courts (2,000 permanent seats at the main court); is adaptable
for volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, etc.; includes a
state-of-the-art fitness center, weight rooms, racquetball
courts, an indoor running track, classrooms, and broadcast
facilities.

* Center Court Tennis Area -- a professional-level tennis clay
court with 2,000 permanent seats and expandable temporary
seating, plus broadcast facilities.

* Sports Camps/Practice & Playing Fields -- four baseball
diamonds; five fields for football/soccer/field hockey; four
outdoor beach-volleyball courts; outdoor tracks for running and
in-line skating, plus trails for jogging/walking/distance
running/cycling; and concession and first-aid facilities.

Later phases of the project are expected to add a hockey rink, an
Olympic-size pool for swimming and diving competitions, multiple
tennis courts, a sports dormitory, a cycling track, a miniature
golf course, bowling lanes, and more.

Coaches, counselors, and trainers will be among the staff or more
than 100 full-time and part-time Cast Members. The exact site for
the new sports center will be determined as a part of the
architectural design process. Construction is expected to begin
in 1994 and be completed in 1996.

Disney's Boardwalk Resort. Combining a seashore entertainment
center with shopping, dining, villas, hotel accommodations, and
convention facilities, the Boardwalk will capture the atmosphere
of turn-of-the-century Atlantic City. Nightclubs include a sports
bar, game room, dance club, and piano bar, plus two waterside
restaurants and festive food carts. The project includes a
15,000-square-foot convention center, 375 hotel guest rooms, and
535 Disney Vacation Club villas. Hotel room rates are schedules
to be about $200 per night. (Opening 1996.)

Disney's Wilderness Junction Resort. A companion to Wilderness
Lodge, this rustic log-sided hotel will be located well into the
woods of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground at the
end of a nature trail. Its 575 guest rooms, priced comparably to
those in Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort, are tentatively
scheduled for opening in the spring of 1997.

Disney's Mediterranean Resort. Long visualized as a new jewel in
the crown of resorts surrounding the Seven Seas Lagoon, the
Mediterranean Resort will occupy a prime location on the monorail
line between Disney's Contemporary Resort and the Transportation
and Ticket Center. Its 1,000 deluxe rooms and suites will capture
the romance of the sunny resorts of the Greek Islands. It will
also provide a luxurious new convention facility with more than
65,000 square feet of meeting space and outstanding recreational
facilities including a marina. Hotel room rates will be
comparable to the other "monorail hotels." (No opening date
announced.)

The Land Pavillion at Epcot '95 (hmmmm at the turn of the century will
it be called EPCOT '00 or EPCOT 2000?) will feature a film of some kind
    by this Summer.

The film is related to the circle of life theme pushed in TLK last

We just got back from Disneyworld, got one of the last chances to ride
Alien Encounter, it was closed down the next day, talking to one of the
cast members they said it was shut down for a total revamp, probably
won't reopen until April. I have to agree, this ride needs work, my
young kid's were not impressed. I liked the concept of this ride but
    the scare factor was 2 on a scale of 1 - 10.

Oh by the way, every ride at MGM and MK was a walk on, o min. wait.

Have to agree with you on this one. After excitedly waiting in line
for nearly an hour, and sniggering Mutley-fashion at all the young kids
who (I thought), were going to get the fright of their lives ... I have to
say it was a real disappointment.

I was hyping-up the people I was with, telling them that this was
touted as the most intense attraction Disney had ever created. I had
to suffer their displeasure afterwards, as it was voted an almost total
yawn. Mission to Mars (which it replaced), was probably only
    marginally less exciting!

A description of the ride (as I remember it):

    1) Enter into the now ubiquitous pre-show TV screen build-up. Aliens
on-screen who create leisure `experiences' and sell them around the
universe. This one is touted as some sort of transporter device.

    2) Into a second chamber (similar to the Cranium Command attraction in
EPCOT), where an audioanimatronic robot is demonstrating the device by
transporting another indeterminate, but cuddly and scared alien between
    the two transporter devices on-stage.

    3) Robot botches the transfer amidst much smoke and flashing lights.
Some of the alien design team appear `mistakenly' on the TV monitors,
arguing amongst themselves that there are problems with the device.

    4) Into next chamber, same layout as Mission to Mars was but with a
transporter device in the centre of the auditorium.

    5) You sit down in your seat, and a restraining device lowers down over
your shoulders. Actually quite heavy and somewhat uncomfortable. More
alien `argument' on screen about how (un)ready they are to demonstrate.

    6) The aliens boss appears and says that he's personally going to
demonstrate the device by tele-porting into our room.

    7) It all goes wrong ... the lights go out ... lots of shouting and
screaming (from speakers in your restraining device).

    8) Sound of breaking glass, and a glimpse of two red eyes .. and a
panic announcement that it's all gone wrong and a very nasty alien is
    amongst us. `Everybody keep calm'.

I would suggest a significant % of the audience may have been asleep by
    now anyway :-)

    9) The only `effect' occurs then, as a gentle blow of wind (supposedly
the alien's breath), hits the back of your neck.

    10) `It's ok, we've managed to capture it' ... lights go on, a few
apologies from the `goodie' aliens. The restraining device lifts ...
    and that's it?

    Yes it is.

I had a brilliant time at the Magic Kingdom that day, went on Splash
Mountain for the first time and thought it was excellent ... rode Space
Mountain several times to re-confirm that it's still my favourtie ride.
But I was really, really disappointed by Alien Encounter.

Many people exiting the ride called out to people in line to tell them
not to bother, so I guess from the news in the previous note, that
Disney have realised that it doesn't cut the mustard, and have decided
to change it radically to prevent further embarassment.

Shame, because it really could have been so good.

    	Andy.

Walt Disney World Cranks Up the Terror On Innovative Ride By Leslie
Doolittle, The Orlando Sentinel, Fla. Knight-Ridder/Tribune Business News

Jan. 18--Test runs of the Magic Kingdom's first PG-13 horror attraction
proved it so scary that screams drowned out parts of the script and some
people bolted in terror for the door.

Yet when Walt Disney Co. CEO Michael Eisner recently sat through a showing of
The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, he ordered it shut down until
Imagineers could make it even more intense.

Disney officials say Eisner's goal is not to scare people into Straightjacket
World, but to make better use of the latest technology.

The Alien Encounter is a showcase attraction for Walt Disney World not only
because it's breaking ground in terror-based entertainment but also because
it is the cornerstone of a $100 million Tomorrowland update.

"Michael is always pushing for attractions to be a 10 - even when they are
9.9's," said Tom Elrod, president of marketing and entertainment for Walt
Disney Attractions.

How can Disney intensify an attraction that locks people into their seats and
plunges them into darkness while an alien monster roams the room mauling
 people?

"I don't know that we even know at this point what we're going to do," said
Elrod, noting the show will be open off and on for testing until this spring.

Other Disney officials say some special-effects techniques may be borrowed
from the phenomenally popular "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" 3-D show at
Epcot '95. The intensity of audiences' reactions to getting sprayed when a
giant dog sneezes, dropped while the audience shrinks and having chair
movements that simulate mice running under their feet have surprised even
some Disney creators.

But the more real the Magic Kingdom's horror show becomes, the more Disney
officials are going to have to worry about visitors not heeding warnings that
the ride is too intense for young children and faint-hearted adults.

Said one of the show's producers: "People say, 'Hey this is Disney, how scary
can it be?"'

**************************

The following message was sent to me by a friend on AOL

    Mike,

Yes, Alien Encounters is definitely closed. Heard that from 2 different cast
members. I'd heard that Mike Eisner himself didn't like it, but
I think thats just rumor. I did get to do Alien
Encounters while I was there a week and a half ago and I must say it doesn't
live up to the hype at all. It's worth about a 20 minute await in my
opinion, but not much more. Visually its pretty good, but the acoustics
leave a lot to be desired. Seems it was really great when the sound
engineers had on headphones but it just doesn't translate to speakers in the
headrest. M*** B**** (cast member) said it was scarier reading the script
than the actual attraction.

I've also heard that it is hoped that it will be opened again by Easter.

I think Disney has missed the mark in several aspects with some of the new
and rehabed attractions. I'll go into this more in the trip report I'm
working on.

Take Care,

Yes, this attraction is what makes Disney so great. Terror shows are

I just heard on the radio, AM-1200, that Disney will be opening it's
Wild Animal Kingdom Park in 1998.

Doug
354.27It's Official; 4th Theme Park is Animal ThemeFPTWS1::ABRAMSCurl up with a good CD-ROMWed Jun 21 1995 14:2522
I saw a CNBC report with an interview of one of the Disney VPs about the
new park. It is official! A fourth theme park, $800M project, on 500+ acres,
which is bigger than all of EPCOT. Over 150 species of animals, and over
1500 animals (not that many, if you include small ones?)

Work starts this fall, opening planned for 3 years after.

The interview included a team of interviewers that absolutely BADGERED the
Disney VP. They implied that this park must be a "second choice" to the
Virginia project (reply: this has been in the works for years, they are
separate activites.) They asked why build another park when Disneyland Paris
is struggling (reply: Orlando is established, known market, DP is not
struggling nearly as bad as before, and again, separate projects.)

We already know that the location is the west side of World Drive, just
north of the Buena Vista Drive bridge. I believe you can see the entrances
planned along the right side of the road before you get to Blizzard Beach.
From the top of the mountain at Blizzard Beach, you can see a lot of
cleared land which is the planned park.

    Bill,

The last time I talked with our mutual CM friend who works in EPCOT he
mentioned that the Animal Park had been scaled down. I'm wondering if
they went back to the original plans.

Here's some news from a cast member friend of mine:

           - New Apple exhibit opens at Innoventions next week.
           - World of Motion is to shut down in January. New version
             may open sometime in '97.
           - New Tiki Birds show is on hold..as is WDW's Fantasmic.
           - WDW's Toon Town Construction is slated to begin real soon.
             It's a $20 million revision of Mickey's Starland. Don't expect
much. It won't be like DL's TT.

    Mike,

Did your cast member friend have any idea when the new Toon Town would
    be completed?

Also, does the new Apple exhibit replace a current exhibit at
Innoventions, or is it completely new?

354.31WDW's ToonTown WREATH::SCOPAMon Aug 21 1995 17:2915
    Mark,

It sounded like 18 months to 2 years for the Mickey's Starland to
Toon Town work. He thought that the changes would be the addition of
a few buildings and an adjustment of the graphics. It's starting soon
so in a few months I'll check with him and see how it's coming along.

I just sent him mail asking about the Apple exhibit. He hasn't
    responded yet.

One thing he mentioned that I didn't pass along is that he's not
hearing much about the 25th Anniversary celebration. He's not sure
if it will be a big bash or "kind of wimpy like DL's 40th."

How many times have you said to yourself "I wonder what
they are going to build next at Walt Disney World?"... Well now
the answer to that question is right here in the Disney Future
Attractions List! This list contains bi-monthly updated information
regarding new resorts, attractions, theme parks etc. at Walt
Disney World, Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
Also as a supplement I have included a list of the new animated
features that Disney is working on, and video release dates for
new and old Disney animated classics.

Due to the nature of this type of list I can not guarantee
that any of the information provided here in is accurate and
dependable. However the majority of information has come from
reliable sources including but not limited to: The Disney
Magazine, The Walt Disney Company Annual Report, Cast members,
newspaper/magazine clippings, rec.arts.disney (Usenet), etc. It
also seems as though there are a few individuals who don't like
this list. They claim it is often wrong, and misleads Disney fans.

    Thanks and enjoy the list!!

We could see some comstruction going on across from the MGM cast
members entrance. I asked the life guard at the Beach Club what was
going on and he said they were building 2 18-hole mini-golf courses.
One in the theme of Fantasia. I don't know if both course are being
built on that site or not.

What's amazing though, is you see things being built but no one around.
They must have some kind of midnight crew. Same with the Boardwalk,
    really progressing.

DISNEY'S FANTASIA GARDENS MINATURE GOLF AND GARDEN PAVILIONS

Disney's Fantasia comes to life! Disney's newest experience, Fantasia
Gardens Miniature Golf and Garden Pavilions, is located on an 11-acre
site to the southwest of Walt Disney World Dolphin and Walt Disney
World Swan Hotels, near the BoardWalk Resort. The project will provide
a wonderful Disney style experience for two distinct markets, a
convention facility and a recreational amenity fo Disney Resort guests.
Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf is a unique recreational experience
with two 18-hole miniature courses that will appeal to both children
and adults. An animated Starter Shack, that includes a snack bar and
arcade, greets our guests and sets the stage for the theme.
For the family, the 18 holes of Fantasia Gardens, designed by Walt
Disney Imagineering, is a fallback to the era of traditional miniature
golf in a clasical garden setting. Rolling grassy hills, sculpted
hedges, elegant topiaries, sparkling ponds and formal flower beds work
together to create an environmental garden setting reminiscent of "The
Pastoral Symphony" sequence from the Classic Disney animated feature,
    "Fantasia."
While beautiful and tranquel in setting, Fantasia Gardens also offers
up a healthy dose of fun. Guests interact with whimisical, animated
statues and dancing fountains. There are surprises around every corner
as guests are challenged by cleverly themed hazards based on five
    sequences from the film:
          Tocatta & Fugue, the introduction that sets a musical tone;
          The Nutcracter Suite, that celebrates the seasons of the year;
          The Pastoral Symphony, with its mythological cast of characters;
          The Dance of the Hours, famous Alligator and Hippo ballet;
and of course, The Sorcerrer's Apprentice, starrring the one and
            only Mickey Mouse.

Focused more for the adult children, Fantasia Fairways is one-of-a-kind
challenge putting course. In a landscape setting that harmonizes with
Fantasia Gardens, the par three and four putting holes will thrill and
entertain the best of golfers. Exaggerated contours, water hazards and
sand traps together with dogleg bends will demand both skill and luck
    to overcome.
Designed by noted American architect Michael Graves, the Garden
Pavilions will extend the variety of spaces available for convention
functions. In its open air, circus tent style, the pavilions will
capitalize on Central Florida's outdoor environment with patio decks, a
sandy beach and lush landscaping. The two connected pavilions will
accommodate a single large function of two groups simultaneously.

Raquel, I agree with Mike. In the early 70's this was a super
attraction, but the last time we took the ride, just before it closed
for renovations ;-), I found it tacky and very out of date....all the
plants and figures were very noticably plastic. Special effects have
improved so much over the last 3 decades that this "ride" was due to be
    replaced.

    re: Mickey's Toontown Fair

This was partially open when we were there 2 weeks ago. It has its own train
stop, which is nice, but there wasn't much to do there yet. We waited in
line 45 minutes for a 3-second autograph-and-very-quick-photo session with
Mickey. The kids did enjoy the ship with little water jets all around it
(some kids were getting completely soaked there, and I wished I could join
them, cuz it was very hot, but we all got drenched in the surprise
thunderstorm the next day to make up for not playing in the sprinklers :).

Toontown Fair looks like it's going to be primarily for little kids (preschool),
I'd say.

While there for the last 3 weeks i noticed the roller coaster being
built where the barn and farm animals resided. It was a steel kiddie
coaster about half the size of a normal steel coaster but with no loops
or corkscrews. Man! Kids get everything...

If the Toontown is the same as the one in DL, it will be a "little"
disappointing. My 5 year didn't like it too much....mostly noise/site
gags. Yes, there is a house for Mickey/Minnie, but not too much too
it. Most of the areas are "roped" off and you walk through the house
and at the end Mickey/Minnie are sitting on a big chair and wave hi.

The roller coaster ride was so-so...she liked the one in "fansty land"
better. DL is VERY much commerical park...a lot stores, etc.
