353.0. "Building the wrong park?" by HOBBLE::SWEATT () Sun Jul 18 1993 19:23

    	If it's possible for a Disney attraction to be considered "boring"
    then EPCOT qualifies. $35 to listen to commercial advertisements from
    large corporations. The AT&T commercial, the Exxon commerical, the
    Nestle commercial. The World Showcase is interesting, but certainly
    not worth the price of admission.
    	I can't possibly be the only one that thinks so. I recently went
    to WDW; visiting EPCOT first. I was thrilled. No crowds, the park was
    practically empty. I thought I had chosen a perfect time of year for
    my visit (May). Then I went to the Magic Kingdom. Wall-to-Wall
    people.  Very,very crowded.

    	So I can't see why Disney would want to duplicate EPCOT on the west
    coast. Maybe the corporate sponsors make it financially attractive as
    a resort. I would rather see the studio tour duplicated ( and
    expanded).

    gee, if you paid $35 for admission, you maybe should have visited this
    notesfile first!

    I've always commented on the advertisements. But if you look beyond
    the advs, there's a perfect teaching envirmonment going on. The kids
    are being entertained, but learning a lot in the process.
    I don't care if its GM or EXXON. I still buy from Mobil and drive a
    Ford. perhaps the price of admission is lower buy them having a
    chance.
    boring, nay. I've been on the spaceship earth ride a couple dozen
    times now. I bedt I see someting new each time.
    And while I hate the EXXON commericail, I love the sound system in that
    building! and although metropolating insurance sponcers bodyworks, I
    haven't seen anyone trying to sell insurance to me while I was there.
    If I every get bored in WDW, you can send my dead body to the cemetary.

353.2EPCOT's CharterWREATH::SCOPAMon Jul 19 1993 13:1414
    If the original plans for EPCOT had been followed through we'd be
    talking REAL BORING.

    EPCOT's place/role/charter in the WDW complex is designed to serve the
    age groups far different from TMK. Many adults I've talked to put EPCOT
    at the top of their list.

    I don't even notice the commercials any more. The only real problem I
    have is with Norwegian Airlines in The Maelstrom. I get off the boat
    and shoot right through that little theater. If ya gonna give me a
    commercial than ya better entertain me at the same time 'cause I value
    my time down there and I'm not about to waste precious time.

353.3Desperately Needs UpdatingMAYES::GIBSONMon Jul 19 1993 13:5820
    My objection to EPCOT is that the information offered in Future World
    is so out of date. The technology and presentation are great, but the
    information is stale.

    This past June we decided to go to three pavilions that we had not
    visited on previous trips (Living Seas, Land, and Wonders of Life).
    My husband was reluctant, but I insisted that we give the park another
    chance. In all three cases we were encouraged by the approach at the
    beginning of the exhibit, heard things we already knew, were anxious
    to know more, and we were left hanging. Some of the stuff presented
    as a future possibility has been reality for years.

    There were two more pavilions that I originally wanted to revisit,
    but we left the park instead. We'll have a hard time convincing
    ourselves to go back (other than for dinner) unless there is a
    major overhaul.

353.4Trying to fix the problemVICKI::STANLEYMon Jul 19 1993 17:338
    I feel Epcot is worth the time and find it a more relaxing pace in
    spite of all the walking. A whole lot of people must hold the feelings
    of the base noter though as a cast member told us on our visit a few
    weeks ago that they are already $3mil behind for the year. Guess thats
    not much for them but they are looking into more action to spruce it
    up.

353.5Westcot breeds Epcot upgrade?PHDVAX::JMCGLINCHEYWed Jul 21 1993 00:529
    I think the Westcot idea has alot of merit, if they do it wisely. Yes,
    most of EPCOT FutureWorld is outdated. Face it, it was designed in the
    '70's, before the "Eisner Era" and needs a facelift. Maybe the Westcot
    Center will be the first step towards an overall upgrade to Epcot?

    Let's hope!
