300.0. "I'm for DECWORLD 93 at WDW!" by PROXY::ZECCHINO (Rz '92... I can't be any worse than them!) Thu Feb 13 1992 16:40

    Just a quick thought... has anyone ever looked into group fares to go
    down to WDW?

    I figure from the amount of people in this file one could hazard a gues
    that there would be a lot of interest if we could save maybe 20% by
    going down there as a large group. Anyone agree or have any thoughts or
    reasons why this wouldn't work?

    Someone who hasn't been down there in 5 years :-(

300.3Off Season perhaps?CUPMK::JETTEThu Feb 13 1992 17:598

    Now for a "real" response.
    Not having called (yet) I'll venture a guess that group rates "might"
    be available for off season. I don't see why they would need to do
    this during peak time. I'll have to check it out further.

    Well, just got off the phone with Gail in group reservations. There are
    no group discount rates - no matter how many rooms you want to reserve.
    No discount rates on admissions either. I went as far as to tell her I
    could need as many as 50 rooms! and it still didn't make any
    difference. They sure are confident of filling those rooms without any
    extra help or incentives aren't they?

300.5Maybe airfare and off-site hotelsMR4DEC::AWILLIAMSLet's get dangerous!!Thu Feb 13 1992 19:3616
    Just a couple of thoughts...

    Kathy confirmed that Disney doesn't offer any such discounts but I'm
    willing to bet that you could get discounted airfare for large groups
    (again, better chances off-season) and also at the off-property hotels
    (but who wants to stay there... :-)). And it's possible that the
    hotels near the WDW Shopping Village would give discounts for large
    groups as well.

    So when are we going?? :-)

    But I can see it now... "Yes, ma'am, that's correct. I'd like a table
    for 75 at the Hoop De Doo Revue. Something down front if you have
    it..."

    With enough of us maybe we could get a special show at the HDD
    (with a certain Birthday Boy taking ALL the parts!!!).

    If they're that certain about filling rooms, does this mean no
    passholder specials this year??

    WEll, I'm pretty sure that airfare would get discounted for groups.( I
    have a friend who is getting maried in texas and his whole family is
    going down about 20 people and are getting a % discount ). I don't know
    if that applies to specific flights or not...

    It's a shame they don't give group rates at the hotels though... I
    wonder though... don't some travel agencies or tour companies reserve a
    set number of rooms with the hopes of filling them and then if they
    don't they end up eating some of that cost... possible going through
    one of them may be the ticket...

    I'll talk to a few places this weekend see what type of response I
    get...

    I travel alot on business to Digital/Customer events and the event is
    always registered with the airlines. We get 45%-50% discounts if we
    make our plans mentioning the event... There have got to be better
    discounts than just $20 off - maybe it requires a travel agent?
300.11how about AE?STEREO::RONEYThu Feb 20 1992 18:418
    How about American Express checking it out you the group? They do all
    the travel arrangements for DEC business trips and events!!......

    My family will be heading for WDW on Mar 5,1992!!! I'll be home working
    and taking care of the dog. They'll be in Dixie Landings!! Bummer!!!!

    I haven't been reading for awhile -- I don't think you could use the
    Digital travel because it wouldn't be classified as a business meeting.

    To Register a Meeting with travel you have to send a mail message
    to AMEX_CS @NRO with the name of the meeting, conductor, dates of
    meeting, location, number attending, and you have to all leave from
    the same locaton.
