293.0. "This Day in Disney" by VISUAL::SCOPA (I'd rather be in Orlando) Mon Jan 13 1992 12:26

Walt Disney started his dream of making, films, animation, and theme
parks a long time ago. Many milestones occurred over the years. This
note can serve as a place to cite such milestones.

Disney's oldest continuing character and is frequently cast as a foil
for Disney 'good guys' like Mickey and Goofy. His most recent
appearance was as the Captain of the Guard in "The Prince and the

"The Three Little Pigs" was released on May 27, 1933 and was a big hit.
The Big Bad Wolf shows up for the first time (along with the title
characters, of course). And even though they've only appeared in a
handful of the Disney shorts, the characters are popular (and
recognizable) enough to appear in the parks.

On this day 12-JUL-1992 at 5:00 pm, 3 Disney.Note Moderators (Mike
Scopa, Jim Pappas and Mike Batty) along with family and friends
(Kathy Jette) descended upon the Hoop for Mike Scopa's 42nd Birthday
    Bash.

    Unconfirmed reports state

      - That the food fight erupted in the center of the audience when a
cast member bypassed Mike Scopa and sat on the lap of the gentleman
at the next table during her solo.

      - A minor skirmish occurred when Mike Batty questioned why Guiness
wasn't an option along with the Domestic Beer and Sangria, since
a large contigent of the current WDW visitor was from the UK.

      - It was also reported that the uncontrollable laughter was brought
upon by Jim Pappas who while playing the part of the Angle tripped
over a corn cob (obviously left over from the food fight) and fell
smack into the Strawberry Shortcake desert of an unsuspecting
        bystander.

      - Upon exiting from the Show, Kathy Jette was overheard saying on
3 different occasions, that she denied knowing the individuals
mentioned above, and it was only circumstance that she was seated
        among them.

    Will the Hoop Recover?

Will it ever be the same?

    Only time will tell.

Claude, you got some of it wrong!

I was complaining because hot tea wasn't an option, I don't like
    Guinness!

It was us who were pretending not to know Kathy! She was late, so
we'd sold her tickets three times over, then she turned up and
insisted on coming in because she was to be one of the stars.

Jim Pappas was overlooked because he wasn't tall enough!

Mike Scopa DID star as the Indian, and is obviously a graduate of
the Robin Williams School of Acting. How anyone can create a 10
minute scene from the simple line "Please don't die" is beyond me,
but Mike managed it. He had to be physically restrained in the
end, so that the show could continue. (Blackmail tapes and photos
    available from the other mods!)

Pioneer Hall is undamaged apart from the toothmarks in the stage
(Did I mention that Mike Scopa is a bit of a ham actor?)

    during the month of July.

    On these Days in Disney:

July 10, 1981 -- "The Fox and the Hound" premieres.

July 24, 1985 -- "The Black Cauldron" premieres.
July 28, 1951 -- "Alice in Wonderland" premieres.

    1989.
