Price:

For the 7 course meal, the price was $75 per person, plus 6% meal tax and tip.
No alcohol was included except for the complementary glass of port which was
included with the cheese course. We had a bottle of Simi Chardonnay for $32.
The total price of our meal was $232.

There are two seatings at 6:00-6:45 and 9:00-9:45. Reservations are required.

Details:

I made reservations for my husband and I, a day in advance, using his name.
You are asked to reconfirm your reservations by noon of the day you are dining
which I did. At that time they reconfirm the spelling of the name the
reservations were made in. I didn't realize it at the time but this is the
name that is used for the customized menus. After we were seated at our table
and introduced to our butler Albert and our waitress (I forget the name for
her) Victoria we were presented with our menus which were customized for Mr.
and Mrs. Marc Zehngut. The only problem is that I'm not a Zehngut. We
explained the mistake and they gladly redid the menus. This time Marc got one
for Mr. Marc Zehngut and I got one for Mrs. Carol Frampton. I believe we
should each have gotten one for Mr. Marc Zehngut and Ms. Carol Frampton. Since
it was our anniversary I would have liked this but we didn't have them try for
a third time.

The restaurant itself is gorgeous. There are beautiful flower arrangements,
all in white, around the perimeter of the room and there is a huge one in the
center. I asked Albert if WDW grew their own flowers and he told me that they
are flown in from California and Hawaii. He also said the huge arrangement in
the center of the room costs $700-$800 a week to maintain. The tables are well
spaced so they are fairly private. The table setting is simple but elegant -
china, crystal and silver-plate. The service was wonderful. There is a harp
player in the waiting area for the restaurant that can be heard in the
restaurant. Our reservations were at 6:45. I was a bit surprised when we
walked into the restaurant to see several very small children but they were
all very well behaved. The restaurant was only about 1/3 full.

The food was great. My husband and I both had the chambourd (raspberry) souffle
with chambourd custard sauce and it was wonderful!! My next favorite course was
the cheese course - sitlton (like blue cheese) on pignolia (pine nut) bread with
poached (in port and cinnamon) pear slices on the side and a glass of port. I
had the pork main course and Marc had the veal. Both were very good. The only
course I didn't particularly like was the salad course - I don't happen to like
either endive or raddichio because they are too bitter for me.

At the end of the meal ladies are given a long-stemmed red rose (in packaging)
to take with them. I packed mine in my suitcase and it made it back to
Boston in fine shape.

Was it worth $232? I don't know. In Disney dollars it was worth it. Food is
about 1 1/2 times as expensive as it is around here. We averaged about $60 a
night for dinner, for good but not great meals - meals that would cost about $40
here. I do know that it was one of the best meals we've had in a very long
time.

It is probably worth twice lunch at Narcossee's which, as several
people have noted, can run about $125 for two.

Can a guest that is not staying on Disney property make a dinner
reservation at Victoria and Alberts in advance, like the day or
     week before their trip?
I know you can't do this with the EPCOT restaurants. I was just
wondering if the resort hotel restaurants operated with the same
     constraints.

Okay, maybe I am having hallucinations from being unable to wait for my
trip to the World in September, but...

When I first logged into this notesfile, I could have sworn that I came
across several different examples of menus from Victoria and Albert's
as found in the base note. Now I can't find them anywhere. Could
someone point me to these if they do in fact exist? Or how about some
others who have been posting their menus here as well?

The variety and creativity of the menu items I have seen so far are
incredible. Can't wait to see what the choices will be on my visit!

Victoria & Alberts accepts all reservations one month in
advance. You do not have to have to be a WDW guest to make
        reservations.

        For reservations, call (407)824-2383.

226.7V&A's menu, September 13, 1991NEWVAX::DOYLEEndor Frequent TravelerThu Feb 13 1992 21:0055
My husband and I spent the evening of our 5th anniversary at V&A's.
Not listed on the menu, but served before the meal was roasted elk in
garlic sauce, served with a slice of fresh pear. We chose a bottle of
Chateau Carbinneaux, $40.00. BTW, I priced this at $25.00 at the local
wine store, so the markup was not bad.

Where there were multiple choices, the dishes we selected are marked with
an asterisk (*). We can personally vouch for the fact that what we
had was incredibly delicious; I'd bet that the dishes we didn't
select were great too! The serving size was tailored to let you enjoy
everything, but not so large as to make one feel stuffed to bursting.

The service was flawless, and the evening was perfect.
Without question, it was the best dining experience I have ever had,
and we will go again (someday...)

    The menu was as follows:

    			Mr. and Mrs. Edward Doyle

    			    September 13th, 1991

Mushroom Ravioli Poached in a Lobster Consomme' with Oriental Vegetables

Pan Fried Swordfish Piccata on a Rainbow of Linguini with Brown Butter
    	and Capers (*)

Venison Consomme' with Veal Dumplings and Chives (*)
Cream of Wild Mushrooms and Asparagus with Fresh Chantrelles

Poached Maine Lobster and Fried Bananas on a Creamy Curry Sauce
"Natural Lite" Broiled Filet Mignon with Grilled Chayotte and a
    	Green Peppercorn Cream
Peppered Breast of Long Island Duck with Sun-dried Cherry Chutney,
Black Currant and Cassis Sauce (*)
Sauteed Medallions of Veal with Forest Mushrooms in Puff Pastry,
    	Armagnac Jus (*)

Chocolate Chip Souffle (*; chocolate heaven)
    Pina Colada Souffle

226.8Dress Code Help?WOTVAX::BATTYWell, I wouldn't start from here!Mon Jun 15 1992 09:0114
I owe my wife a slap-up meal as part of her recent birthday
present, and we are seriously considering V&A'swhen we are down in
WDW shortly. The only problem is the requirement for jackets. I
don't mind bringing a formal shirt, tie and pants, but I don't
fancy packing a formal suit (apart from it doubling the weight of
the luggage, British heavyweight suits are not exactly appropriate
for Florida weather!). Do V&A's have a supply of jackets for such
events? Is there a rental place within easy reach where I could
    hire a tux? I don't suppose a T-Shirt with a tux printed on it
    would go down too well?

    Advice?

Hmm don't know since I haven't eaten there, didn't care to spend $75
per person this past trip, just to eat in a snobish atmosphere, at that
price I want to be entertained as well (just not my type of eating
experience, what can I say, Id prefer the Hoop). I know that the Top
of The World had spare ties, but the 2 times I've eaten there I've
never saw someone without a jacket.

> Is there a rental place within easy reach where I could hire a tux?

Not sure, maybe one of the other Birthday Bash participant can inquire
next time they call WDW info? I do remember a shop on the second floor
that had Jackets for Sale, plus you also have Sir Edwards Haberdasher
at the Village Marketplace that had jackets last time I strolled the
    shops in '87.

> I don't suppose a T-Shirt with a tux printed on it would go down too

From the type of people I saw staying at the GF on the 2 occasion I was
there I would have to say NO ;^).
226.10TECRUS::JIMJim PappasMon Jun 15 1992 16:5717
        Mike,

V&A's does not have suits available as far as I know, and you
definitely wouldn't be welcome, nor would you be comfortable,
wearing a "T'shirt Tux". It is OK to wear a sport jacket; we
saw several the night that we went.

If you prefer a Tuxedo, rentals are common in the US so I
would expect them to be available in the Orlando area. I'm
sure that you could find them in the yellow pages.

BTW, we found V&A's to be exceptional! Debbie and I
celebrated our 15th anniversary there last summer and
everything was perfect. It was probably the nicest meal that
we ever had (and we have had some that are more expensive).
        Highly recommended!

When we went to V&A's in '88, I forgot the suit I was planning to
bring with me for dinner there. I had a nice shirt and tie, and they
supplied me with a jacket. They were short on supply, but they had
    some. I'd give a call.

Gee Mike between you doing your countdown in minutes, and Mike_S doing
it in hours, Would it help you guys if I made it possible for
VACATION.COM to do the conversion for you? Like says define a symbol
or something that allow you to have the output as it is today, or in
Hours/remaining minutes/secs or in Minutes/remaining secs? It probably
wouldn't take much, unless I incorporate it into the command line, then
I'd probably have to rethink my logic or better yet why don't I have
VACATION.COM define a process wide symbol that would be accessible
after it runs I allready have the DAYS symbol define for when I was
doing my VAXNotes personal name countdown I could just define the
symbols HRS, THRS, MINS, TMINS where DAYS, HRS and MINS would be the
default values and THRS would be the value of MINS plus DAYS times 24
    and .....;^)

The most recent copy of "The Walt Disney World Dining and Shopping

    Claude,

It might be a bit of fun on Vac.Com to have a threshold so
that when the 'days to go counter' drops below 10, then you
automatically change to hours, and something similar for minutes.
It just makes it seem closer if you can count in hours or minutes!

Actually, if I'd only had the bible to go by I wouldn't have

We were there in June. You will find that the menue will test the depth of your
statement "Cost isn't a real problem..."; if I remember, we dropped over $100
per person. I put some details in my trip report. Actually, sign up for one
of the plans that include free meals. One trip to V&A can just about pay for
the plan.

They have a 27 day rotating menue. We had reserved for a Friday night,
discovered that afternoon that the menue had absolutely nothing that I was
willing to ingest on purpose and changed it to Saturday night without any
problem. Give them a call and ask for the menue of the night you would like to
attend.

Enjoy

226.21Here's our menu...NODEX::HOLMESWed Nov 03 1993 13:0352
Just as an example, here's the menu from our visit to V&A's this August.

First Course, choice of
Carved Loin of Rabbit Stuffed with Almond and Herbs on a Bed of Creamy
Polenta, Merlot Glazed Red Peral Onions
Mosaic Terrine of Cured Norwegian Salmon and Alaskan Halibut with Russian
Beluga Carviar, Warm Toast Points and Sweet Mustard Dill Sauce
Passion Fruit Pasta Salad with Peaches, Plums, Mangoes and Frest Mint from
      our Garden

Second Course, choice of
Corn and Crab Chowder, Topped with Smoked Pepper Butter
Venison Consumme with a Julienne of Truffle Crepes

Third Course, choice of
Maple Roasted Duck Breast with Cranberry Rhubarb Marinade and Port Wine Sauce
Filet Mignon Served with Angel Hair Potatoes, Tomato, Basil and Onion
      Vinaigrette
Broiled Maine Lobster with Carambola Served with a Mango Rum Beurre Blanc
Grilled Veal Chop with a Timbale of Crab and Spinach, Marsala, and Roasted
      Pistachio Jus

Fourth Course
Seasonal Salad Leaves with Roasted Garlic and Cracked Black Pepper Dressing

Fifth Course
   Royal Stilton with Poached Pear

Sixth Course, choice of
Key Lime Tart with Macaroon Crust
   Blackberry Souffle
   Chocolate Almond Souffle with Amaretto
   Fantasy of Fruits and Berries

Seventh Course
   Coffee, Friandises

My mouth is watering just thinking about all of this -- it was a wonderful
meal. They started us off with a complimentary piece of shrimp from the
chef -- small (right Marcie?) but good. I tried that rabbit appetizer (first
time ever tried eating bunny) and I really liked it. The chowder was very
tasty, and I went with the traditional Filet as the main meal. It was
wonderful -- melt-in-your-mouth. The poached pear was good, but the Stilton
cheese was too strong for me. As a chocolate lover, the souffle was a perfect
ending. I don't drink much coffee, but just watching the coffee maker is a
treat.

Not exactly "meat and potatoes", but I'd guess that you'd find things
that you'd like. And the dining experience is worth a lot on it's own.
