190.0. "Fishing in Disney World" by AKOV11::MAZEROLLE () Thu May 03 1990 19:23

Has anyone ever gone fishing in Disney World? I understand
you need to hire a guide ($110.00 for 2 hours) and they
take you to various places in the Lagoon etc to fish. We
are planning a trip in November and my husband is an avid
fisherman but the price seems pretty high...is it worth
    it?

Why not just take an extra day away from the park and go deep sea
fishing on the East or West coast.

For that kind of money you could spend the entire day on a charter
boat catching some really BIG fish.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes and No. Since Disney doesn't allow you to put in your own boat in
any of their lakes at WDW, if you wish to fish in the Middle of either
Seven Seas Lagoon or Bay Lake, then the have the option of the charter
with guide above, or you could rent a pontoon boat minus the guide and
fish (at least I think you can, remember seeing folks doing this back
in the early/middle '80s, since the Contemp/Poly used to rent pontoon
    boats).

Fishing on your own info from the Birnbaum guide in my office,

'Fishing on your own is permitted in the canals in the WDW Village
area and at FW. FW campers can toss their in thier lines from any
shore; Villa guests can toss from the banks of the nearest canal or
rent a canopy boat and chug back into remoter waters for their sport.
(the waters around the Treehouse are particularly productive).
Licenses are not reguired. No gear is available for rent, but cane
poles and lures are for sale at the FW trading posts.'

Anyway a phone call to WDW General Info (407)824-4321, should be able
to give you more info on fishing at WDW.

I have gone on the fishing excursions twice, but money was no object
since we were staying on property with the world vacation plan.

I don't think I would spend $100 to go fishing for two hours if I was
    not on the plan.

The trips were fun and productive, we caught plenty of fish each time.
They come to the dock of the hotel,Contemporary Poly or GF, with a
    pontoon boat,all equipment and refreshments.

So the fishing trips are included in the World Vacation Plan? I didn't
realize this, and am really happy to find out that this is true.

What kind of tackle do they provide? I am a semi-serious bass fisherman
who never uses natural baits. I'd hate to think of having to use a
Zebco 404 or something like that.....

I don't remember brand names of the rods and reels but they had both
spin and baitcast rigs. No problems using any of their set-ups.

I also consider myself a semi-serious fisherman ( I leave in six days
for week in northern Minnesota) and the tackle box the guide had made
me insanely jealous. This thing was just crammed with whatever you
    might dream of throwing.

Like I said, the trip was very enjoyable. The guide also brings a
polaroid camera for instant memories of your catch and release. You
should see the smile on my wifes face holding her 3lb bass.
