189.0. "What is the most Romantic spot in WDW?" by SMURF::FLANAGAN (I was a snowball in hell) Mon Apr 30 1990 14:03

    Hi Disney Experts!

I have a question. What is THE MOST ROMANTIC spot in WDW?

The reason I am asking is that I am going to WDW for Memorial Day
Weekend with the intention of PROPOSING to my girlfriend. I am trying
to find an original place to propose. My first idea was to use
Cinderella's Castle [with the naive assumption that one can get
up to one of the balconies]. No go. Disney says that's not possible.
    Fine. My plan is nixed.

Sooooo, does anyone know a good spot [ex/partime cast members please
help if you can too!] that offers a quiet, private, beatiful/romantic
    view?

    Thanks!!!

I would recommend the observation deck on the Contemporary, while
watching the sunset, fireworks from the MK or the water pagents on
    Seven Seas.

    Some places to propose...hmmmm...

Let's see, there is the rose garden to the right of the hub in front of
    the castle in the MK.

You could ask just before the drop in the Pirates of the Carribean, you
know, ask for the plunge before you take a plunge.

    On the skyway over Fantasyland.

On the roof of the Contemporary

In the Canadian Gardens in EPCOT Center.

OOHOOOHHH...Talk to some of the street performers and ask them if they
would be able to help you set up your wife to-be. Also make sure that
you have a camcorder running and send it into America's Funniest Home
Videos. I think that if you and her could play Romeo and Juliet in the
Renisance Street Theater in the UK pavilion would be the greatest.

At a quiet time on the dock of the Polynesian.

    The Japanese or Chinese garden.

I guess it really depends if you're looking for a beautiful spot, or a
    rare situation.

PS. I hope none of her friends read this notes file and spoil the
    surprise.

Get a reservation for dinner on the Empress Lily, have dinner, then
propose to her from the deck when you have your after dinner stroll.
The stars will be out, the breezes warm....

Personally, I'm fond of the atmosphere at the Mexico pavillion, especially
if you go late in the evening and can get a boat to yourselves.

How about a stroll on the beach between the poly and the GF, at night?

Well, as to an update to .0 here's what I've got so far....

Dinner Reservations at the Empress Room aboard the Empress Lily.
Haven't quite decided what will happen after that. I'm not sure how
late the park will be open, so I don't know if I'll be able to track
down any characters to help me out. Anyone know where to find
characters at around 10:00 on a Saturday night in May in WDW near
the Empress Lily? I was thinking of perhaps checking out the
Adventurer's Club on Pleasure Island. That's supposed to be a
    very different place. Any comments.

    3 days and counting.......

189.8"Happy New Year!! And by the way..."CADSE::AWILLIAMSThe fluke is the duke of soul...Tue May 22 1990 15:077
An option might be to go to Pleasure Island (seeing as you're already
there) and wait 'til midnight when PI celebrates New Year's Eve.
Fireworks will be going off and a celebration will ensue. It may not
be the most "romantic" spot because of crowds and such, but it
    certainly would be memorable.

Well, I just got the following e-mail from a friend of mine (Amy, who has
been dating a guy named Jim for a year or so). Talk about a romantic
proposal...!! Is this cool or what??? :-)

- Nina

> Jim and I just got back from a vacation in Disney World, of all
>places. Neither of us had ever been. We spent a few days in Melbourne
>visiting my Uncle and the Space Center, then went on to the Gulf Coast for
>an afternoon. We even stopped by Clearwater, at Jim's Mom's request, to
>see the image of the Virgin Mary in an oil stain on a glass building. It
>was pretty impressive - about 20' high - and was attracting pilgrims by the
>hundreds. My favorite part was the sign at the next door Jiffy Lube
>advertising Virgin Mary T-Shirts!
> I guess the best part of the trip, though, was at EPCOT. Jim and I
>were eating dinner at the Coral Seas Restaurant, which has four 8x10 foot
>panels of glass looking into a huge aquarium. We were seated right by the
>windows and saw all sorts of fish, sharks, turtles, and rays swim by as we
>ate. Then several divers showed up. I thought they were there to be part
>of the Disney experience, and I was right, in a way. They bubbled around,
>then swam up to our window. We all waved at each other, then they slowely
>lifted a sign up which read "Amy, will you marry me? Love Jim". Well, who
>could refuse such an eloquent offer? Of course, I said "yes". It was
>really cute. Jim was so nervous that he handed me the ring to put on. The
>whole place applauded and said "aaaaaaw". You just never know what is going
>to happen when you go away for vacation, do you? We hope for an October
>wedding.

    knee. :>
