148.0. "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party - WDW" by CHET::BEAUCHESNE () Tue Nov 14 1989 15:18

    The following is taken from a Disney ad which I thought I would
    share with the Notesfile. Our family will be down there at this
    time and I was looking for feedback from someone who has gone to
    this special event in the past, what was good; what was bad?

    Thanks,
    Moe (22 days!)

148.1Christmas Preperations at DisneyUSCTR2::TOMYLJoel R. Tomyl DTN 297-4282Wed Nov 15 1989 14:5812
    When I was backstage in the Magic Kingdom on October 18, they had
    just finished unloading the tree that would be used as the Christmas
    tree in Town Square. It's funny, you can look behind the building
    that contains the Delta Dreamflight and the American Journeys show
    and see it above the roof. They still had a month until Thanksgiving.

    When I checked back a few days later, they were putting other branches
    in to fill it out and make it look real full from all angles. Once
    that is done, they will give it a massive coating to prevent it
    from drying out and becoming a fire hazard.

    Oh, the price of perfection...
148.2Money talks...KNEE::SEAGLEDisneyland junkie!Wed Nov 15 1989 23:0913
    RE: .1

    A *REAL* TREE??? I would think that Disney would opt for a synthetic
    one in an effort to "save the environment". After all, a 3-4 story
    Christmas tree is several decades (centuries?) old and it seems a shame
    to whack one down every year for Main Street, USA. Is this not
    contrary to the Disney ideals?

    Or did I miss something?

    Like, really sad, ya know?
    David.
148.3Yes, RealESKIMO::CARINILower Your Heads, Folks...Thu Nov 16 1989 04:2214

     While you might expect it to be against Disney ideals for them
    to cut down a tree (even after reading about the 'dificulties' at
    Discovery Island 8-o ), the Disney reasoning is as such:

     The tree is to be used on Main Street, USA, which is a representation
    of a turn-of-the-century, hometown. During that time period there
    was no such thing as a synthetic tree. Also, I'm sure that I could
    here the guest's complaints about Disney being too 'cheap' to afford
    a real tree and that guest would still complain even after Disney
    was to explain that they were using a synthetic tree in order to
    try to save the enviroment. Kinda sad, isn't it? :o(

148.4CHRISTMAS AT THE MAGIC KINGDOMMCIS2::RIZZOMon Nov 20 1989 21:0224
    To anser the first entry, World Disney World is the best place to
    honor the Christmas holiday. I have spent 4 christmas's in the
    Magic Kingdom and for all who have been there at other time of the
    year, Christmas is the most special. With the mixture of our favorite
    Disney melodies combined with the Christmas season and song this is an
    enchanting place. The tree... 4 stories high ordiments the size of
    people popcorn 4-5 feet big, lights gallor!!! The magic is so intence
    that I just feel so happy sharing this with you. There more people
    think that the park is very buzy, I an happy to say it is not ( that is
    the week before Christmas), Christmas day is still wonderfull, What
    other place would you rather be, then with the magic of Disney on this
    great holiday! Disney puts on a show that will last forever, now for
    the people that want snow for Christmas, remeber, it has not snowed in
    8 years!!! oh to say one more thing, just came back from this
    Disney/Cruise in sept. what a blast, the cruise was my first and it
    was first class as only Disney would have it, Disney/MGM has very
    good, this hotel we stayed at was the Hyatt grant cypriss, the best
    hotel in Orlando!

    another good time to go but very crouded newyears eve a bang in
    everyland...

148.5Let me re-phrase that..CHET::BEAUCHESNETue Nov 21 1989 15:3715
    Maybe I didn't ask the question clearly. This "party" that my base
    note refers to is staged once a year on Friday and Saturday night.
     There are several special shows at specific times - arranged such
    that unless you're not there until closing, you've got to make some
    choices as what to see, what not to see.

    For anyone who has attended one of the past "parties", what was
    EXCELLENT, and what was _only_ GREAT?

    If no one has been previously, I'll be sure to post something here
    when we get back, although it will be too late for this year.

    Thanks for the replies,

    Moe (15 short days!)
148.6A very merry time...IOENG::FEELEYGrowing older but not up...Tue Nov 21 1989 18:4413
    We've gone twice to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. My main
    impression was that it was VERY crowded, especially in comparison to
    the normal crowds for that time which are very small. We didn't even
    try to go on any of the attractions.

    However, even with the crowds, the atmosphere was very festive and
    enjoyable. The shows were (at that time) the same as the ones they
    perform during the day. You do get a special photograph, and hot
    chocolate and cookies. We enjoyed the atmosphere and would go again if
    we were there at that time.

148.7Fireworks!!! All around you.ODIXIE::WITMANMickey Mouse FOREVERTue Nov 28 1989 11:5111
    I've been to prior years Very Merry Christmas Party and think the
    fireworks were the most EXCELLENT part. We were standing outside Space
    Mountain and it seemed like the fireworks were going off all around
    you. They sure weren't just over the castle.

    The *atmoshpere* is a very important part of the night. When the
    crowd gathered around the train station and Walter Cronkite read the
    Christmas Story you could really feel what Christmas should be.

    I love it! I'll be there again this year.

148.8Has anyone gone lately?AIMHI::STOLARZThu Oct 14 1993 22:1410

    Well, There hasn't been a note here in a while..

    Has anyone gone lately? I have tickets for Dec 3rd, and would like
    some info. Nothing inparticular.. just what to expect and if you
    think it was worth it.

    Thanks in advance
    Christine

148.9a bit of info?IOSG::CAMPBELLKDisney DreamerFri Oct 15 1993 08:399
    Can someone tell me how to get tickets? Can you buy them there?
    Is the party just on 3 December, or other dates too.

    It's the first I've heard of this and it would be nice if we could go
    as we're planning on visiting Orlando 1-16 December.

    Thank you

    Karen
148.10How I got TicketsAIMHI::STOLARZFri Oct 15 1993 12:5614
    When I called the CRO to check on my reservations, they gave me
    the number, and told me a little bit about it.

    The dates are Dec 3rd & 4th, and the weekend after which is the
    10th & 11th..  They only have a limited amount of tickets,so
    the chance of you getting tickets when you arrive isn't too good.

    I LOVE Christmas, so I'm pretty excited for this. I hope it's
    as wonderful as I'm envisioning! This honeymoon is shaping up to
    be more exciting than the wedding :>

    Hope this helps,
    Christine

    We've been there each of the past 2 Decembers and attended the Very
    Merry Xmas Party. Park is relatively empty....Fireworks are GREAT!
    Each year we purchased tickets at the desk of the resort hotel we
    were staying at.
    Great night but bring a sweatshirt cause it can get cool at midnight.

148.14A Disneyland Christmas?JULIET::VASQUEZ_JEripple in still waters...Tue Dec 07 1993 23:237
    Does anyone have information on Christmas time in Disneyland? We are
    going Dec. 23 - 25. Are the shows essentially the same as those which
    have been described for WDW? Does the Disneyland hotel have any
    special events of which you are aware? Any suggestions or input is
    appreciated.

    The dates for this year's party are December 2,3,9,10, and 16. The
    price per ticket is $21 MKC (reg. $23) and I'm not sure if there is
    another price for kids, the person I spoke to knew that I was only
    interested in adult prices. The party is at the MK from 8pm-1am and
    includes special fireworks and parade, snow on Main st, family photo,
    hot chocolate & cookies, special button, AND....
    a chance to see Alien Encounter!!! This will only be open for the
    party nights and not during the day according to the reservation
    person.
    Tickets go on sale 10/15 and can be obtained by calling the usual MKC
    phone #.

    I tried to get tickets yesterday and was told that they now go on sale
    November 1st and the phone # is 407-824-4321 instead of the MKC phone
    #. I hope they don't change their minds about Alien Encounter now!
