Well people. I am off to Disney tommorow morning. It seems a long
time ago that I opened the topic 35. We are leaving home at 0430
and should arrive in Orlando at 1400hrs (local time). I am really
    looking forward to it.

I'll let you know how I got on...

Thought I would just let you know that we're off to WDW tomorrow
morning as well. Not looking forward to the 4:30am rise time however.
Should be a fun 5 days. See Ya'll there.

145.6Don't WorryINDMKT::GOLDBERGWed Nov 01 1989 16:555
Don't worry, I'm not going to move these notes to the Disney-itis
topic. They give me a good idea who's heading to mouseland, and who I
need to hound about posting a trip report in #34.

Have a good trip, and don't forget us when you get back!

This topic is fine and will stay even though some of the emotions here
resemble those in topic 25 Disney-itis, the difference being topic 25
covers Disney-itis in general, where as this note can cover the
departure-itis ;^). (In fact I think I'll put that in the title)

The only thing I would suggest is when you return to please delete your
entries after you return otherwise I will when I get around to it, so
as to not clutter the file with old and in some cases irrelevant data a
    year from now.

Hi HO, HI HO, its off to Disneyland I go,
With a DECUS here, and a child's mind there,
Hi HO, HI HO just can't wait to GO

        we're going to have fun!

Its next Tuesday, the 7th of November. I leave this Saterday.
I'll be spending all week next door in the Marriot.
Oh, I forgot, I'm really out to a DECUs function. They only allow
DECUs people in Tuesday Night, 7-midnight. Imagine, maybe 10K
    people max in the park.

First stop, my favorite ride, STAR TOURS.
Imagine that, I almost forgot I was going.

Then in 106 days, we go to WDW, for a week in Fort Wilderness, Guess
I better take the family along on this one.

NO, you won't hear about splash mountain from me!

I'm here to make Disney notefile history. Noting the same day that
I'm off to disneyland. Does that make me a noteaholic or disney-holic
    - or both? its 12:48 local time. We go in at 7PM. The parks all
    ours.
If I get time Wednesday, I'll update on what happen.

We leave FRIDAY. If I weren't so loaded down with the 35mm camera
equipment AND the VCR (can't help it, I'm addicted to both now) I would
consider dragging the VT220, LK201 and Scholar modem along. (Over my

145.13Now It's Time to Say Goodbye to All Our Company...INDMKT::GOLDBERGFri Nov 10 1989 16:5427
We're not actually leaving tomorrow, but this is my last day in the
office before our departure on Tuesday. I thought a few words from the
originator of this conference were in order.

I started this conference last February after booking this month's
trip. This is really, believe it or not, only our second trip to WDW
and I thought I could use a few tips.

I had been following the WDW note in HOLIDAY_TRAVEL, and someone there
suggested that Disney stuff ought to have it's own conference. I
figured since the note in H_T had about 250 replies in over a year it
wouldn't be such a big deal. Well, by the end of the first weekend,
this conference had over 300 notes!

In the past eight months many, many DEC folks have used the information
here to help plan their vacations, and most have posted trip reports
sharing their great times with the rest of us. I am no exception. I
expect the things I have learned from all of you will make this our
    best vacation ever.

So gang, expect a post card from the World, and be prepared for the
most comprehensive trip report of all time sometime in early December.

Ears on, and ready to go,
    Len.

    Len,

As I enter this note you are, no doubt, in anxious preparation for your
    trip.

At this time I would like to say, if I haven't already done so, thanks
    for starting this conference.

For years I've been thinking about taking my family to WDW, returning
after some 16 years but never really got around to it. This conference
has pushed me over the edge and reminded me of what I was missing.

Here's hoping that you have a save and enjoyable trip.

I am off with my family for a 12:45 flight to - yes, of course - Disney
World. I wanted to see if we could be the closest departure to note
    ratio in this file.

Well, off it is, 9 days of no marching to the tune of a different
    mouse.

See y'all when we get back - maybe I'll have the kids write the trip

Well, it doesn't seem like it, but 139 days have passed since
we decided to do Disney. I can't say that I'll be thinking of all
of you at 4:00AM tomorrow morning, but I do appreciate all of the
help that I've received from this notes file - and I'll try to get
an extra ride on Space Mountain for all of you!

We're off in 43 hours, but this is my last day in the office. I'm
getting flu, the kids have streaming colds, the airport is closed
due to a baggage handlers strike, and even if it wasn't, the
flights would be delayed because of fog. But I just don't care!!!!
We're spending Christmas with the Mouse even if we have to swim!!!

Thanks to Len, Claude and you wonderful group of contributors, for
all the useful info in this file. Watch out for the postcard - and
of course, the trip report on my return.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

day at the office. We expect to be in Sunney Florida on Saterday

    I promise the following:

o I'll send a post card. I packed Len's address in the bags.

o I will spend lots of money [ain't that the truth at WDW]

o ride Star tours 6 times.

o Have chicken soup if the rooster wakes me up on a rest day.

o I'll bring back spring with me.

same time. hope to be able to say hi to some.

oh, at this last minute, I realized that there was no note on Paridse

So if someone wants to start one and talk about the night clubs
    and make a recomendation....
I might be able to take a peek at this notesfile one last time.
Gosh, I just gotta get a computer in that motorhome, I'm getting

I promise I'll write a trip report when we get back. We, my wife,
daughter and I, are leaving for DISNEYLAND in 4 (FOUR) days. We are all
really looking forward to this trip. 4 days at the Apollo Inn (2 days
admission to TMK, 1 at Seaworld, 1 at Universal Studios) and then on to
San Francisco to visit my wife's sister and family for 3 days and then
unfortunately back to Colorado Springs. We really do love it here but
wish we could afford to spend more time visiting with Mickey and

Panic stations have passed .... the day's work has been (finally!)

the prospect of a three week holiday in Orlando before me. What
    a terrible feeling :-)

I have got my orders from Mike (WOTVAX::BATTY) Batty for park guides
    - and from Karen (WESSEX::KAREN) Campbell for some photographs to
be taken ... plus several other 'requests' from several other
    interested parties.

I've printed off all the notes I'll need (thanks as usual to all
contributors) ... and I've purchased an environmentally friendly
re-cycled paper note-pad, in order to write down the components
of a loooong trip-report to bore people with after my return.

I suspect that my wallet will be much thinner and my stomach
much fatter after three weeks is out - but it's worth it

wanted to thank you all for the priceless information in this file.
Having discovered it monthes ago it has helped me plan my trip much
better than I could have imagined. I will post a trip report when I
come back. I will try to be timely about it, however being out for
2-1/2 weeks may take some catching up. I will be staying at the
Dolphin so I will bring back some first hand knowledge of it also.

At 9:00 am we drop off the rabbits and pick up the rental car (got
an Avis Chevy Cavalier for 16 days unlimited miles - $345) and we're
on our way. We *love* driving down - real slooooowwww, 3 nights on the
road from MA to FL - it gives us time to build up the anticipation and
stop at interesting places along the way. Our third time together
    in the World!

4 nights at Disney Inn, 5 nights at Contemporary. We wanted to try two
places this time. Would have liked the Poly, but couldn't fit it in
to the Stockholders special. Can't believe the planning is done - I

145.36Tips on Driving DownCOEM::SCOPAMAJORFri Oct 26 1990 16:4814
I second that. Driving down builds the anticipation and provides for
extra excitement along the way. Depending upon where you start from the
total mileage is anywhere between 1300-1400 miles. This is easily
accomplished in 3 days of driving.

Here's some advice. If you plan on driving down take off on a
Wednesday. If you arrive Friday afternoon and plan on staying 10 days
then 4 of those days will be week-end days the least crowded. I would
also recommend you do non-Disney days on Monday and Tuesday.

We're off in six days and I'm still believing the best way to/from

    Gary,

How many people @ $22.00 each? I've been looking into this lately and
found you can rent a subcompact from Nat'l one-way to Disney $30.00.
4 people by shuttle is 88.00, 4 people in the car is $30.00. You drop
off/pick up the car at The Swan Hotel (I think). We are going to be a
party of 3 and are definitely going with the car.

        RE: -1

        Kathy,

For 3 people, I think it is better to take the shuttle. The
van is $22 RT per person or $66 round trip. If one of the 3
people is a kid, then the charge is less (I think $11 round
trip) The car would cost you:

    		Rental $30
    		Florida surcharge	$ 2
        	Gas $ 2
    		Tolls $ 2
    					---
$36 each way $72 Round trip.

Plus you have the hassle of picking up the car (twice),
dropping off the car (twice), filling it up with gas (twice).

It is also much quicker to take the shuttle since they leave
every couple of minutes and they are located immediately
outside the luggage pickup area. They drop you off at the
hotel lobby and you do not have to get the car back to the
Swan Hotel, and then get transportation back to your room.

The shuttle van people may also quote family rates there. On a
previous trip I used Discovery Tours when they offered to take
all 5 of us immediately to the Poly for $55 Round Trip.

The most convenient transportation would be to take a cab
which I understand costs about $35 each way regardless of the
number of people. That is still cheaper than renting a car
each way and a lot less time consuming.

145.52NOVA::FEENANJay Feenan, Rdb/VMS engineeringThu Dec 05 1991 23:1243
I actually just came back and rented a car for the week, although I
stayed in Fort Wilderness. With a family of 5 I think this worked out
    the best for us.

The main reason we got the car was for airport transportation, we saw
the space shuttle take off, went to Sea World and Kennedy Space Center.

But there were other benefits...which were:

    - Since we stayed in a trailer, the food we bought we could buy at a
regular grocery store. At the park forget it. (this would not apply in
    your case).

    - Two times we used the car actually to get around the park in a hurry.
Once to get to my wife and kids to the transportation center and once
to get to MGM. (These were hectic days where we wanted to "have our
cake and eat it too"...and we did!)

    - We also found it to be the best way to get between the Disney Village
and our trailer. (Three times...twice shopping and once for a
    character breakfast)...again immediate transportation gratification.

If I was to go again I would get the car again. A weekly rate usually
costs about the same as 4 days rental. In our case it was $119.00 for
an intermediate size car, had a coupon for an upgrade + $2/day
    surcharge. (AVIS)

I do have a question though....although I had inconsistent information
when I left...this was my experience. At check in I received a card to
put on my dash that allowed me entry through the main gate and the back
entry near FW (and the fastest way to Disney Village from our
location). At FW they have an automatic gate with combination (that
they give you) to get in and out of the area. Also it allowed me to get
waved into the parking lot at MGM. My question...is this the same at
all the hotels in Disney?...I had been told that I should expect to pay
$4.00 to enter/reenter the park...which was not true.

    -Jay

(I will give a trip report when I settle down a bit at work...off to
    Disneyland, oops...DECUS next week.)

Yes, this has been stated countless times in here as one of the
benefit's to staying on site, was the nocharge to enter any of the
parking lots (provided you showed the card), and the use of certain
roads within the property not normaly available to the general public.

Wether or not you are given a combination to the FW gate if staying at
any of the Disney hotel today I'm not sure. On my last trip we stayed
at the Disney Inn, was given the card but no combination to the FW gate
you mention, when we took the WDW bus from DI to FW, the bus driver
used a Garage door type remote control to get through the gate, off the
main road to the Contemporary from the MK parking lot.

This is it. I can't believe it's finally here. We leave tomorrow morning at
8:15 for the airport, and by this time tomorrow I hope to be lounging in the
CBR pool thinking about heading over to the Whispering Canyon Cafe for
dinner...

Thanks to all of you who have provided so much information in this file.
Reading/writing here is such a blast all the time, but especially when a
trip is coming up.

I've packed away a little notebook to take notes each day for my trip report,
which I *will* write this time. For now, I'm off to mow the lawn, finish
packing, and do the many little last minute chores. Bye!

There's nothing so sweet as when the day you've been planning/waiting a
    whole year for finally arrives...!

Plane is departing Colorado Springs @ 8:40 this morning with a connection
through Denver. We should be on the ground in Orlando by 5:00 EST.
Hope to be checked in at the Beach Club by 6:30.

You know what I really think is cool? When you get to Orlando and
ride the tram to the main terminal from the airline gates. Kinda sets
the mood, monorail style, the minute you get there.

Plans for this evening include a dinner at Whispering Canyons, and then
over to MK to ride space or splash mtn., nightime parade and fireworks, and
a big honkin piece of carrot cake at the Main Street Bakery after
    the rides all shutdown.  8^}

Man, do I NEED this vacation.

I'm on my way to WDW Friday... last call if anyone has anything they
want checked out while I'm there. Feel free to drop me a mail note
at FPTWS1::ABRAMS if you have any special requests. We'll be staying
in 3 places, of which the first two will be new experiences:
	Contemporary Tower Room
	Dixie Landings Bayous
	Beach Club

Here's the funny thing. My wife works in sales for Unisys, and they have
a big award trip each year for those who exceed their budgets and they now get
to bring spouses along. Next year's trip in February is... you guesssed it.
If she qualifies, we get to go the the Contemporary again, on Unisys! Cool.

I'm practicing for the I'm leaving in the morning. I'm in vacation
    mode.

feb 17th is my day to take the day long tour of WDW.
Feb 18th, my wife is in the Disney Institute for Culinary Arts.
    confirmed.

If anyone can think of any good questions to pump the CMs with, pls let
    me know.

getting into the 1 day Disney Institute is not easy. They now open up
the 1 day slots 14 days in advance. I called up at 8:00 am sharp this
morning for the 18th, and they only took my name and telephone number.
I called back at lunch as I hadn't heard anything, they said that they
don't start calling back until 1:30PM, and that there were 80 calls
in front of me. But, if I wanted to sign up now, it was ok! Go
figure. The bottom line is to just wait until lunch time and call.

my short list is getting complete.
Just getting over my flu so that I won't be sick on vacation. what

FINALLY, this day has come! (And it's DRAGGING!)

0 days, 23 hours, 17 minutes - 'Til we leave for DISNEY!

We're off in the morning, barring any problems with the impending Nor'easter
about to hit Boston.

Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny in Orlando, but cool (high 70, low 51).
Sat. and Sun. are listed as partly cloudy, high 76 and 80 respectively, low
56 and 60. Right now the outlook for Mon. is mostly cloudy with a slight
chance of rain. Lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Highs in the lower 80s.
Mon. is the day I was planning on doing a water park, so that looks good.
Mon. night is the Hoop-Dee-Doo for my birthday dinner.

I'm really excited, and so are the kids. This is their first trip to the
World, and the first time I've stayed on property. I hope we can manage to
pace ourselves and not exhause ourselves in the first two days! :)
