75.0. "Parade Viewing" by EXIT26::SIDLEY () Thu Apr 06 1989 19:44

    I haven't seen this mentioned yet so here goes.
    Being a twice yearly Disneyworld person I want to
    know has anyone out there found a really good place to
    view a parade? I have been there for just about every
    parade and have yet to find a good place to watch the
    parades from.. What we do now is to tape the parades
    on our 8mm Sony Videocamera and watch them later that
    way if we missed something (and we always do) we can
    see it later. And we will have them forever on film..

    Have fun!!!

    My favorite 2 places are the sidewalk in front of the Town Square Cafe
    and on the sidewalk of the Square in front of the castle looking down
    Main Street.

75.2Hub looking down main streetDEC25::STANLEYMarilyn I. StanleyFri Apr 07 1989 21:2115
    My favorite place is also on the sidewalk of the "hub" looking down
    Main Street.

    The floats are usually spaced far enough apart so that I can get
    a picture of the front of it and then get pictures of the side
    as it turns the corner. Because of the curves, the people who
    are directly besides don't get in the way.

    Get there early because the curb seats go fast. But don't fret
    when people start trying to sit where they don't belong. The
    cast members are wonderful about keeping them back while the parade
    is going on.

75.3Main Street USA Railroad StationRECAP::SEAGLEDisney-aphileMon Apr 10 1989 23:4415
    Another good place is the observation deck at the Main Street USA
    railroad station. Be warned, however, that sometimes this can be
    the *worst* place to be. For example, if you visit WDW/MK during
    Christmas your view from the railroad station is of the back of
    a towering Christmas tree!

    In general, however, this spot is ideal for the photographer (still
    or video) provided that you have a telephoto and/or zoom lens.
    Because of the height of the deck you typically can get shots with
    excellent perspective/angles, usually "dead-on", and with no one's
    head in your frame. Go early and stake your position.

    FWIW,
    David.
75.4Try watching from Thunder Mountain11SRUS::LOWELLRuth 'Disney' LowellWed Nov 22 1989 22:4024
    If you're not too concerned about photos, any curb spot along
    the parade route will do. Otherwise I would pick a spot on the
    hub facing down Main St. toward the train station.

    If you're really not fussy and don't want to spend your time
    sitting on the curb, go over to Thunder Mountain. There is a
    parade crosswalk there, plus that is the end of the parade route.
    If you want to get some average pictures, stand by the crosswalk
    until they rope it off to prevent further crossing and then stand
    against that rope. I got some ok pictures of the characters that
    way and my impatient 2 year old didn't have to wait. The main
    disadvantage to watching from here is the people in the parade
    are pretty wiped out by this time and have to rush out of the
    way of the floats as they go through the gate to the storage area.

    If you aren't taking pictures, go a little further up the path
    toward Thunder Mountain and sit on the boulders or fence (the
    cast members don't notice) and you'll at least see the floats.

    Of course, the real reason for watching the parade from this
    area is... after the parade ends, run like hell to the ride and
    there'll be no line. Or, if you don't care about the parade,
    ride Thunder Mountain four or five times in a row during it. I'm
    serious, you can sometimes stay in your seat for multiple rides!
75.5Electric Parade on VHS???HBO::MACDONALDHappy Holidays Everyone!!!!Tue Dec 26 1989 14:1410
    	Went to DISNEY for 2 weeks over Thanksgiving, and got to see
    everything we wanted. One problem, the video of the Main Street
    Electric Parade didn't come out for some reason. Any fellow
    Disney noter have a good VHS tape of this parade and its music
    that could be made available for copying? I have two decks
    so making the copy is not a problem for me. Thanks in advance
    for your help.

75.6You Can BUY the MusicINDMKT::GOLDBERGLen, Back From the WorldTue Dec 26 1989 14:343
    The music from the Electric Light Parade, (titled Baroque Hoedown), is
    available on cassette in the Disney Stores and from Disney Mail order.
    As I remember it was less than $5.00.

    Hi,I'm Abbi,Gary's 12 year old daughter. When I was at WDW I watched
    the parade from the left of the Frontier Land RR station. It'
    where the floats come out,and it wasn't crowded at all!! It's a
    nice spot to watch from.I think you should try it next time you go.

75.8Parade Route SUPER::SCOPAThu Jan 30 1997 15:0518
    The word from Orlando is that the parade route for all prades in The
    Magic Kingdom may be reversed. That is, the parade route may be
    permanently changed so that the floats proceed down Main Street USA
    towards the train station.

    Reasons for this change are:

           - Requests by guests for this so that the castle will be in the
             background for all pictures.

           - The incline in Frontierland. It constantly is a worry because
             some floats have to be helped to make it over the incline.
             Apparently the batteries aren't strong enough.

           - Also, new sensors have been put in place (for parade music)
             and they may work better with the new route.

75.9I'm confused...ABACUS::ARCHAMBAULTa rebel to the naked eyeMon Feb 03 1997 14:376
    Maybe I'm having a real air-head kind of day, but I could swear that
    all the parades I've seen in the Magic Kingdom travel towards the train
    station. Why would this be a change?

75.10Parade Route HistorySUPER::SCOPAMon Feb 03 1997 20:2418
    Carolyn,

    Over the past 25 years all the parades have traditionally started from
    the right of the Fire Station and then go around the hub and up towards
    the castle eventually ending behind Splash Mountain.

    When filming for television specials all the parades would travle
    towards the train station to accomodate all the television cameras.

    Several years back when the Mickey Mania parade was introduced to TMK
    the parade route was also towards the train station but the nightly
    Spectromagic parade still held it's route (away from the train
    station).

    Apparently either most recently or soon all parades will head towards
    the train station.

    Thanks Mike. When I was there in October, the Remember the Magic
    parade started by Splash Mountain. I just assumed that's the direction
    they always take.

Just got back Saturday for a week inside Walt's dream. The Spectromagic parade
started at the fire station. As Carolyn said, the Remember the Magic parade
started at Splash Mountain.

      Every time I've been at MK, all parades (day and spectro-magic)
    have been routed from the Castle to the Train station. Maybe they
    change this periodically for one reason or another. I have the
    pictures and video to prove it.

75.14SpectroMagic is the QuestionDONVAN::SCOPAMon Feb 17 1997 12:216
    True...in the past I've seen both the day and evening parades move
    towards the castle. A few years back they reversed the route for the
    day parade. I think the question is whether or not Spectromagic will
    continue on it's present route.
