553.0. "CruiseOne?" by JUMP4::JOY (Perception is reality) Mon Feb 19 1996 16:40

Has anyone ever used CruiseOne cruise specialist booking agents in
Acton, MA? I've gotten their brochure and spoken to one of the owners.
They are part of a nationwide org. (CruiseOne) which guarentees the
lowest cruise prices due to their large volumes. They represent all
cruise lines and will work with you to get just the right cruise for
you. Sounds like a good place, but I wondered if anyone had any
personal experiences with them (good or bad).

    Thanks
    Debbie

    Hi Debbie,
I spoke to the owner a few times to price a cruise last May
and this April. His prices were NOT competitive. My normal travel agent
    beat his prices easily.

    Bill,
Thanks for the comments. Did you ask him about his "lowest price
    guarentee"?

    Hi again Deb,
I've cruised alot and always ask for lowest price
guarantee and guarantee upgrade. I've spoken with the owner Dudley a
few times. I've received lower prices from the start from other cruise
specialists, always several room upgrades and further discounts before
I've cruised and on one occasion a rebate after I've cruised because
of last minute price drops. I usually book 3-6 months in advance. I'm
ready to book the Panama Canal for April '97. I can recommend the
travel agent I seem to always end up with if you'd like for comparison
    shopping.

    Bill,
Thanks for the offer. I wouldn't mind doing a little comparison
shopping. I'm also having my mom check with the agent she uses in
Phoenix. I met with Dudley and Dianne over the weekend. They put 3
cabins on hold for me on the Celebrity Cruises Zenith for the week of
Jan. 4, 1997. They were almost already sold out. The price I got quoted
was $1369 per person. The brochure quotes $2345 for this category cabin.
They also quoted me a price for the Carnival Cruises Fascination, $1309.
Both of these were outside twin/king. I would think that any agent would
get the same price quoted from the cruise line, just like they do for
airlines. Isn't this the case? Why don't you send me your agent's name and
I'll give them a call for comparison.

    Thanks Debbie

Has anybody used the Cruise services that you can find on Prodigy or
Compuserve? Are they price competitive at all?

    Deb,

Give Cruies of Distinctin a call 800-634-3445, I have used them several
time and thier prices have always beat the other "Discount Houses".

We sailed this past New Years (Xmas and New Years are the highest prices)
on RCCL's sovereign category D outside for 1,429.

I have also used them for a "Family Mellennium Cruise" for New Years 1999,
we have put down deposits for 14 cabins, though we don't know what the
price will be yet I am confident theirs will be the best.

They've been mentioned (Cruises of Distinction) several times in this
conference (at least once or twice by me). Their prices are usually better
than any other travel agency, and I've used them on 4 cruises. (The only
reason I EVER got a better price than they quoted was when a friend of mine
was an a agent, got a very good quantity break on a particular line/ship, and
passed along to me agency/agent commission and "special" rebate).

COD prices are excellent, as is their customer service.

Just as an update. I decided to book my cruises through CruiseOne. I
received a few other quotes and CruiseOne had the best price for the
cruise we wanted. Plus they did a lot of work on my behalf, reserving
cabins in prime spots and convincing the cruise line to hold them
beyond the normal limit while waiting for confirmation, etc.

So far I've been satisfied. I'll let you know how the cruise turns out.
We will be sailing on the Celebrity Cruise Lines Zenith, Southern
Caribbean itinerary week of Jan. 4, 1997.

Re: 553.3...can you please give the name of your travel agent. We
usually go on 2 cruises a year and are always looking for the best
    prices. Thanks!!

I've used Annettes Cruise World in Boston for several years. I've also
used them for 1 week stays in Aruba, St. Martin and Maui. Ask for
Albert. Typical 1 week cruises range from $799 to the most I've paid
is $1058 per person including air. Their number is 617-523-7770.

Even if you don't use them it's good to have a few quotes as a point of
