506.0. "BARGAINS??????" by JULIET::MULOCK_PA () Thu Aug 04 1994 14:06

    Anyone know of any "special deals" around? I definitely need a
    vacation, and would like to do either a 4 or 7 day Mexican cruise or
    Western Carribbean...

	If you haven't already, you should put this on rec.travel.cruises. There
are a lot of travel agents on the net with deals.

Check out the deal on Carnival's Mexican Riveria cruise on the
Jubilee. They offer attractive discounts, though it may be too late in
the year to take advantage. Party Party!

      I'm planning a cruise Sept. 04 on Carnival Cruise Lines. I'm confirming
    my reservationa tomorrow through Single-World. I'll get my own
    cabin for around $1400.00.

506.4should be plenty in fall29923::CULLISONThu Aug 04 1994 21:5314
    there are plenty of deals around especially in fall. Nov and especially
    DEc just before xmas there are always plenty of deals. The $1400
    for singles is a good deal. I would imagine you can get a couple
    for $2200 including air and port charges, maybe less for 7 nights.
    The are not any 4 day Western Caribbean cruises I know of except for
    there are 4 and 5 nighters on Regency from Tampa. Go to Cozumel,
    on 5 night stops at Key West also. These are cheap, probably about
    $1500 for two for 5 nights I believe.

    Best deal would be 7 nighter Eastern caribbean. $200 less easily than
    Western on same line.

    Howdy Folks,

    I just made my reservations. I've made them through SingleWorld.
    I got everything combined, airfare, ship, taxes, port charges,
    etc.. for uder $1000.00. I decided to go with the share a room
    option. The ship departs Sept. 03 from Miami. I'll be sailing
    on Carnival's Holiday which goes to Ochos Rios, Grand Caymen,
    and Cozumal.

      Since I was booked with Singleworld, they asked me a few questions,
    such as whether I was more more of a day person or night person, my
    interests, and my occupation. They use that information in regards
    to matching one with the closest compatible roommate. I'll fill
    in everyone later with what I thought of the cruise and Singleworld.

      Could someone tell me how close the port is from the airport?
    I'll be taking a cab from the airport, since I'm on the cruise
    only option.

506.6Not very close29923::CULLISONTue Aug 09 1994 12:5710
    It is not that close. A taxi may be around $20. There are however
    many buses that go from airport to cruise ships because so many
    people are going on cruises, especially sat/sun. You can
    probably go on a bus for much less than a cab, they are air
    conditioned etc. Your travel agent should provide you with
    detailed options on how to get there, if they do not then they
    are not much of an agent, so ask, they should have information.7

	If your going from Miami airport to the port the cab fare is way less
than $20. I take a cab every time I cruise and I give the guy $20 which ends
up being a REAL good tip. Don't take the bus. It's so much nicier to just take
your time and not be herded and then have to deal with a huge crowd as you all
get off the bus at the same time.

	Make sure you pack some stuff in a carry on bag that you may want right
away. Sometimes it takes up to 4 hours before your bags arrive at your room.
They have over 10,000 pieces of luggage that there trying to deliver !!!

    The carry on stuff should be what you want right away and emergency
    stuff if baggage is lost or delayed.

    Normal situation is as stated before, your baggage arrrives at
    room later.

    But on small percentage of time either
       baggage gets misdirected and you do not get it till the first port

      or it is lost forever.

    Getting off bus was never a problem with us.

    I would agree that a couple would be best taking a cab, a bus will
    be a per person charge anyway and would probably be about same.
    One person could save a little taking a bus. But I would agree
    it would be generally much nicer to just spend a couple of extra
    bucks and take taxi. Overall it is a tiny fraction of the total
    vacation cost anyway.

506.9Cab fareDNEAST::MCLAUGHLIN_PWed Aug 10 1994 16:029
        We took a cab from the pier to the airport in March. The cost
        was around $10.00 + tip and worth every penny. We've decided
        to take the cab route from now on. It's so much more pleasant
        than being herded onto a packed bus after waiting and waiting.
        The travel to and from the ship is the only unpleasant part of
        a cruise that we've experienced and sometimes that even works out
        ok.

506.10free transfer?KARHU::HALLThu Aug 18 1994 16:395
    If you are booked with Singleworld you should ask where are your
    transfer slips which allow free transportation from the airport to the
    port. I have used Singlesworld to go on a few cruises all under 1000,
    including once on the Holiday. I've been lucky with the roommate matches. Have
    Fun.
