479.0. "Grand Bahamas Hotels?" by KURIUS::LIBOVE () Wed Dec 29 1993 15:09

Apologies up front for posting here; presently, the Holiday Travel conference
is missing; a missing notesfile report has been filed with its SYSTEM user :|

I will be travelling via Sea Escape from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the
Grand Bahama island in the Bahamas, and need advice on specific hotels there.

My reservations (through Sky International's Sky Travel agency) include
accomodations at a hotel called Bahama Grand, and allow for upgrades to
bigger, better, nearer-to-the-beach hotels for a fee. Here are the hotels
to which I can upgrade, and about which I'd like people's experiences. They
are listed in decreasing order of price of upgrade (so the Lucayan is the
most expensive one, e.g.).

Thanks!

Lucayan

Atlantik

Xanadu

Silver Sands

    Jay,

I personally would prefer the Lucaya Resort and Casino or Atlantic
because they are on the Lucayan beach strip (The Atlantic is between
the Lucaya Resort and Casino and Holiday Inn) across the street from
the Lucaya Bay Village (shopping, restraunts, boats). This is about 5-6
miles from the downtown Freeport (international bazaar, the Princess
    Hotel and Casino).

The Xanudu is about 2 miles from the downtown but is a kind of
"stand-alone" resort though it has its small beach and marina.

Cannot say anything about the other hotel - never been there.

    Enjoy,

    Simon

    JAY,

I stayed at the Atlantik two years ago and LOVED IT. People were very
nice. The pool area has an outdoor bar right on the beach. You can
walk for miles on a very lovely beach. Being across the street from
the marina means you can take either water taxis or regular taxis
to and fro. The in house restaurants are ok. We only used them
for breakfast as it is nicer to eat outside across the street at
the many outdoor places featured there. A friend was staying at the
Lucaya and didn't like it as much as our place cuz it was harder to
get to. The grounds are very nice. There's even a liquor store
on the hotel property so you can buy your own if you decide to save
    money!! I recommend it.
