459.0. "Recent Voyages on Song of America?" by DNEAST::MCLAUGHLIN_P () Tue Jul 20 1993 12:20

My husband and I just booked an 11-night Southern Carribean
cruise on RCCL's Song of America for March 1994. We both
love RCCL and this will be our first cruise on S.O.A. so
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been on
the Song of America. I read the old notes about S.O.A. and
the reviews seemed to be positive. Has anyone been on the ship
        recently?

        Regards,
        Patty

Your best bet is contact one of the people in note 337 that
was going on a Bermuda cruise in Oct this year. There is probably
someone who has already gone on SOA to Bermuda. You may not
hear too much from last winter because SOA was doing cruises
on the Mexican Reviera, which probably attracted mostly West Coast
cruisers. Of course Bermuda will be different from Carribean but
comments of ship/crew etc. should apply.
This will be first time for SOA to do exclusive 10/11 night
Carribean cruises. My only trip was early 87 when it was doing 7
night cruises in East Carribean, currently being done by Sovereign.
At that time SOA was RCCL's newest and largest ship. Cruise itself
was excellent, at time it was cruise #2 for us, we've completed 6
more since and none was any better. Actually we are cruising in
Jan on Sovereign, if we could have scheduled 10/11 days we would
have gone back on SOA, always wanted to try a longer cruise and
SOA to me would be an excellent place to try. My mother in law
is going end of Jan 94 on SOA, her last cruise was on SOA in 87 with us.
If you remind me then I will pass on her comments.

Which other RCCL ships have you been on ? Our RCCL cruises have been
SOA, SOS, SOS, SOS and Jan 94 SOS. I know it is the same ship, but
the price is usually very good and we really like having 3 of 6 days
at sea. Plus we like Sat cruises a little better also.

        Harold,

Thank you for your suggestion. I spoke with someone this morning
who just returned from the New York to Bermuda cruise on the
Song of America. He was very positive about the SOA. I was most
interested in hearing about the ship itself rather than stops and
he was helpful. (We like the days at sea best.) He told me that
the dining room on the SOA is divided into one large room and two
wings. He recommended the wings because they were only two
tables wide and all tables had a view of the sea. We are going
to call our travel agent tonight and see if it is possible to
reserve a table in one of the wings. When we cruised on the
Song of Norway a couple of years ago, RCCL was very accommodating
        about dining arrangements, etc.

Our last cruise (in April) was on the Crown Princess which is a
huge ship. We prefer the smaller ships but enjoyed the experience
on the Crown. The smaller ships seem to be the ones that offer
the longer cruises too. Our Song of Norway cruise was also
11 nights and we enjoyed every moment.

We had planned to take a 10-night Panama Canal cruise next March
but the price of this 11-night Southern Carribean was too good
to pass up and I had read so many good things about the Song of
America, we decided on this cruise instead. SOA did an 11-night
Panama Canal cruise April 93 but it was not offered again for
        April 94.

I would be interested in hearing what your mother-in-law
thinks about her SOA cruise in Jan 94. I will post a note
and ask you to pass on her comments early Feb.

We are really excited about this cruise. It's nice to have
something so great to look forward to...

Thanks for your thoughts and also to those who responded in
        mail to me.

459.3How much? $$$ISLNDS::FAUST_CLANCY"In God We Trust, Others Pay Cash"Thu Aug 05 1993 14:388
    Hi there,

Just curious..... You said you got a good deal on an 11-day cruise
to the Carribbean. How much? Does the price include port charges
and tax? Does it also include air?

    Thanks,
    DFC

I don't know what the basenoter paid for her 11 day cruise to the
Southern Caribian but I know I got a great deal on a 7 day RCCL cruise
to the Western Caribian which I will be going on the 29th of this month
(August). As to answer your question regarding the port charges that
is added to the price of the cruise (which includes air). For us the
port charges for each was $87. The price of the cruise includes your
meals and air and of course your room. You pay for your drinks and
what ever else you do on the ship. This is my first cruise but the
secretary I work with has gone on many and has filled me in on what to
    bring to ware, etc.

I hope I have answered your questions.

I guess I should clarify what I meant by a good deal. This cruise
is to celebrate a special occasion and we wanted a particular
deck and location on the ship. Whenever you do this you are
narrowing your price but we still paid less for this cruise
than we did our last 11 night/12 day RCCL cruise. The price was
$1486. p.p. plus $100. port charges and that includes tax and air.
