421.0. "NCL's DREAMWARD" by NOVA::XSTCH::LUND () Thu Jan 28 1993 13:23

    Has anybody cruised on the new NCL DREAMWARD yet? This is a new ship;
    made it's maiden voyage in December 1992. We are booked on it for
    later this spring. We found out last week that it had been in Boston
    back in December for "travel Industy" tours; allowing the travel agents
    to take a look. Had we known; we would have driven down to take a look.

    Anyhow, just wondering if anyone had taken a cruise on it yet. We did
    the Premier/Majestic 3 day cruise last year; and that was small and
    crowded, and old. The Dreamward, is new; about three times the size
    with only 200 more people. It's mid-sized (51,000 tons);

    Who knows, maybe we'll be the first to enter a trip report about this
    ship. It's new sister ship the Windward is supposed to be making it's
    maiden voyage later this spring.....

    Haven't been on it but 2 weeks ago in St Thomas, she docked behind our
    ship - the Regent Sun. One thing I will verify is she's a big mother.
    Standing on the uppermost deck of the Regent Sun, I was looking up at
    at least five decks above me on the Dreamward. Given that its an NCL
    ship, I'm sure it will be great.

    We're also booked on the Dreamward in June. This is our first cruise
    on an NCL ship.

    I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who has sailed on the
    Dreamward.

421.4Cruising aboard the Winward.DECWET::KARMALISat Feb 13 1993 01:2324
I am planning on going on a 7-day Southern Carribean curise aboard the Windward
(sister ship of Dreamward). I was thinking of going on the Dec. 5 cruise.
Does anybody know how the whether is in December in Southern Carribean?

I was given two quotes and am confused about which one to pick:
	1) Catagory 9 - $1029 with a guaranteed upgrade (White Travel).
	2) Catagory 9 upgraded to Catagory 6 - $1249. (Cruise Center).

Choice 1 - you are not assigned a cabin until close to departure date
so it is possible to get a bad cabin location in catagory 9 but a
upgrade is possible. Or I can pick a catagory 9 room but no upgrade
for the same price.

Choice 2 - I get to choose cabin location in Catagory 6.

Also, is it a good idea to get insurance ? Its $65 per person.
Is the insurance cheaper through NCL or should I shop around ?

This will be a honeymoon cruise and our first cruise so I hope
we enjoy it.

Thanks in advance,
Sulaiman.

    If you can find a copy, there was an excellent article in last Sunday's
    NYT on insurance. In general, its not what it seems and I'd recommend
    against it unless there is some reason to expect you might not be able
    to make the cruise (poor health, etc.) but in any event, if you do
    consider purchasing it, spend a lot of time finding out exactly what
    you are getting. In most cases, if it comes from the cruise line, it
    turns out to just be a waver of the cancellation charges.
421.6Weather will be great!CIVIC::GIBSONTue Feb 16 1993 16:054
    Weather in the souhern Caribbean in December is hot and sunny --
    in other words, perfect.

    For those of you who have booked the Dreamward for Bermuda in June --
    I'm considering taking this cruise in May. Did you book recently, or
    far in advance, and did you have any trouble with availability?
    We are waiting for some 2 for 1 coupons to arrive before we can book
    and I"m hoping it's not booked up.

    I just returned from a Cruise on the Dreamward to Bermuda (May 29 -
    June 5) and it was absolutely FANTASTIC!!. It was my very first Cruise
    and we enjoyed it so much that we are already planning our next Cruise.
    There are so many Nice things to say about our trip that I don't know
    where to begin. From the Waiters to the Cruise Director everything was
    perfect. I could spend all day here giving Praise to our Cruise and
    the DREAMWARD but I don't think my peers would appreciate it. So if
    you would like further details either drop me a note to Lois Bingnear
    @DWO or give me a call at DTN: 338-5599.

    Me too!!! We just returned on the 12th!!! It was absolutely
    WONDERFUL!! This was our second cruise on NCL and I can't say enough
    about it. Even though the waters were rough on the way out, we still
    had a great time! I even won the Aretha Franklin lip sync contest!
    What a roit!

    If you'd like more details drop me a note!

421.11Free Air from BostonBRAT::FRANKLINWed Feb 23 1994 15:1517
I was at a travel seminar and I wanted to pass this information along to
those who usually fly out of Boston. NCL is offering a special promotion
for their 1994 New York to Bermuda cruises on The Dreamward. If you book by
3/15/94, the air is FREE from Boston to New York for the 1st and 2nd
passengers.

NCL has special rates for early bookings, which apply as 'cruise-only' and
airfare is an add-on charge. They offer free bus transportation from major
cities in the Northeast - however, as I mentioned above if the room is
booked by 3/15, they will give you air from Boston at no extra
charge for the 1st two passengers in a cabin. The free air does not apply
to 3rd & 4th passengers.

They are probably doing this because of the Boston to Bermuda cruises and
people in the Boston area do not have to worry about airfare.
