328.0. "Celebrity Cruise Line" by ASDS::CRISCI () Fri Oct 25 1991 01:17

    Has anyone had any experience with the Celebrity Cruise Lines? The
    ship that I'm thinking of booking is the Horizon. The only place
    that I called is Filene's Basement Vacation outlet. I'm still planning
    on looking around.  Any suggestions???

    I have a brochure of the Celebrity Lines, the rooms etc. look
    beautiful. I am not quite sure if the Celebrity Line is the former
    Chandris Line. If it is, we have been on their line and were pleased
    with it.

    We love cruising so any ship I think would be fine.

    Good luck !
328.2Never again!!FSTTOO::SIMPSONFri Oct 25 1991 16:3713

    My wife went on Chandris (now Celebrity) before we were married
    and absolutely hated it!! The ship was not at all stable and
    rolled terribly. She spent the entire week on Dramamine.
    The cabin was small and not that great, the food was ok
    (when you weren't so ill you could eat). I thought she was
    going to fly home from Bermuda, instead of continuing on the ship.

    We have since been on the SS Norway (NCL) and she said that there
    was no comparison. She has sworn never to go on Chandris (Celebrity)
    again.

328.3Celebrity is their higher lineVMSSG::KILLORANMon Oct 28 1991 18:1523

    I heard that Celebrity is the higher end of the
    Chandris line. We saw the Horizon last
    April and the ship looked beautiful. We spoke
    to a couple of the passengers and they said they
    were really pleased.

    We were on RCCL Song of Norway and a couple at
    our table took the Celebrity Horizon the year
    before. It was their first cruise and they
    booked it last minute. They really liked it.
    The room was larger on the Horizon and it's a
    new ship compared to SON.

    If you can get a good deal then go for it. The
    ship is huge. If your concerned about sea sickness,
    you may want to book a cabin in the center of the
    boat.

    Don't compare this to Chandris.

    One note of interest.... Celebrity has done a refurb on the ship
    my wife was on (see .2) and changed the name. Granted, sprucing
    up the ship may make it nicer, but it won't help the ride. BTW...
    she was in the center of the ship and it didn't help. You might
    get a better trip if the ship sails out of San Juan or another
    Caribbean island... that way you don't have to cross the Gulf Stream
    like you do out of Florida.

    To my knowledge, there is no Chandris line anymore.... Celebrity
    took all of their ships.

    RE: 2. .4 - What was the name of the ship your wife was on? Isn't
    Chandris the name of a Cruise Line -- not ship?

    We are booked on a small Group cruise on the Horizon the week of
    January 25th, sailing out of San Juan. From the brochures and video,
    the Horizon looks beautiful. I believe this is it's second season so
    it will be like new.

    The same agent who has booked us on the Homeric (now Westward) and
    S.S. Norway, highly recommended the Horizon to us. I have to go with
    her judgement as she knows us and what we expect from a Cruise.

    I'll post a review note after our trip.
