157.0. "Ever go on a NEW YEARS CRUISE??" by DZIGN::KELLY () Wed Aug 30 1989 19:53

    Hi!!

    Has anyone been on a New Year's Cruise???? I am a single woman
    and am going to be going on the Carnival ship FESTIVALE out of San
    Juan on New Year's Eve with a few single friends (also women)......
    Someone said to me that maybe there might be alot more couples than
    single people going on a New Years Cruise........

    Can anyone help me out??? I mean, I know there will be alot of
    couples on any cruise we go on, but I don't want to be so outnumbered
    that we would feel really out of place, y'know???

    I'd appreciate anything anyone can share with me about this!!

    Thanks!!

    I've never been on a New Year's cruise but it sure sounds fun! The
    Festivale is an older ship so it might attract an older crowd but being
    it is Carnival it will still be a blast! Don't worry too much about
    not seeing a bunch of single men...they're everywhere!

    Have fun!

157.2Have no fear - it's as much fun as you make it!WMOIS::G_MARTINGlenda - the GOOD witchFri Sep 01 1989 12:5929
    You will enjoy the cruise if you tell yourself you're there to have
    fun. Believe me! I went on the JUBILEE the first week of April.
    The only single, "older" men on board were gross. So I made my
    own fun. Actually, I got friendly with one of the crew members.
    They seem to know all the great spots for dancing, eating and just
    plain fun while off the ship. This particular gentleman that I
    met took me to a disco in San Juan and then strolling on the
    waterfront (we almost missed the ship, phew). Now, he is coming
    to visit me 9/10 - 9/30. The different life-styles of the passengers
    on board was interesting but nothing like Ibraham (from Turkey)
    and his adventures. I suggest getting to know the crew members
    if you're not looking for a long term relationship or marriage.
    You're not even guaranteed that with another "single" passenger.

    I can't wait for my next cruise. If I were invited, I could be
    packed in 1/2 hour (the bank account won't be ready that fast -
    unfortunately).

    Have fun and remember...Even if someone is married, they're all
    on board to make friends and have a good time. You don't ever need
    to be alone on the ship. I am writing to 5 different couples that
    I toured with and 4 crew members that made my trip just UNBELIEVABLE.

    -g-

    BTW...The JUBILEE was my first cruise and I've never really been
    away from home by myself. I just made up my mind to enjoy it.

157.3GOT A GOOD BOOK??ENGINE::BOURQUEThu Sep 14 1989 17:3611
    Well, the last time I went on a cruise I ended up sitting on the
    deck and reading for the ENTIRE trip. I mean, it really wasn't
    what I WANTED to do, it's just that I, well I am shy and you see,
    I have a weight problem.......so unless you look like Paulina I
    would bring some literature with you....it's going to be a LONG
    trip!!!!

    Just some friendly advice...

    After New Year's, let us know if you had a good time. A friend
    and I were going to go to Club Med the week before Christmas
    but they cancelled out on us. Now we're trying to decide what
    to do for vacation... perhaps a cruise? We'll decide after New
    Year's. Let us know what happens!

157.7Let's compare notes.BSS::J_DAVIDWed Dec 20 1989 00:3610
    We may want to compare notes after the New Year's cruise. we are going
    on the Holiday (12/30). We took our first cruise on the Celebration and
    our second on the Norway. We found the Celebration to be much more fun
    (younger crowd) while the Norway was better for relaxation so we
    decided to go on a Carnivale line again. we are leaving from Miami and
    going to Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios. Since we are going on two
    ships of the same line it will be interesting to compare.

    Joel.

157.8Yes, let's definitely compare notes!!DZIGN::KELLYWed Dec 27 1989 13:2318
    Hi Joel!

    Aren't you psyched??!! You're leaving a day earlier than we
    are..........Ya, that'll be fun to compare notes after we get back
    (what a depressing thought, huh?) When we were planning our trip,
    we considered the Celebration too.......but we ended up choosing
    the Festivale 'cuz it sailed out of San Juan, where none of us had
    ever been to, and also because it stops at 4 different ports.......
    but I'd really like to hear about the Celebration and the Holiday
    because I'm sure I'll be hooked after this!!! None of us have ever
    been on a cruise before so this is really exciting!!!

    Anyway, Joel, have a FANTASTIC time!!!! I'll be looking for your
    trip report when I get back!!!

    BON VOYAGE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, JOEL!!!!!!!

157.9Some advice pleasePOCUS::LONDONThu Mar 01 1990 19:1513
    My husband and I are thinking of going on a New Year's cruise with
    a large group of people. We have already sailed NCL and RCCL (abut
    not for New Years.

    I was wondering, are these cruises any different from a non-holiday
    cruise?
    Has anyone been on either the NCL or RCCL New Year cruise?

    Any recommendations.

    Thanks

    I'm trying to decide about a New Years cruise for 1994, and was
    wondering if anyone has cruised over New Years...

    I cruised over New Years two years ago. It was my first cruise. We
    travelled on Carnival - I believe the Festivale. There wasn't anything
    out of the ordinary done for New Year's Eve from what other people were
    saying. They did provide party hats, noise makers and little streamers
    to throw around. (We threw so many streamers four of us got tied
    together and we had sore muscles in our throwing arms the next day)
    I found it to be a fun way to spend a New Years Eve. I'd recommend it.
    The only drawback was that most of the shops are closed on New Years
    Day at the port of call (we were in Caracus which I didn't care for -
    we beached it)
