102.0. "Eastern is spoiling my Norway Cruise..." by MACROW::RITTER (Donna D. Ritter) Mon Mar 20 1989 17:44

    I was just called by my cruise agency. I had booked a cruise on the
    Norway for April 1rst. He said the airline tickets had been purchaed
    through Eastern and they would have to redo all air arrangements. This
    means I might not know when I am traveling until the DAY I leave. I
    will also have to pick up my tickets at the airport. Has anyone else
    had this problem?

    Donna,

    One of the guys here in Blue Bell, Pa., is leaving on his honeymoon
    this coming week on the Norway. He also had Eastern tickets, but
    the travel agents straightened out the matter and he's flying on
    American Airlines. He got the matter straightened out about 10
    days ago.

    Hope this puts your mind at ease a little bit. Enjoy your trip!

    DONNA,

    My Mom will be cruising with you on the Norway. They were also
    booked on Eastern, but their travel agent made them aware of their
    new flights, times, etc. quite a while ago.

    Hope all works out and enjoy your cruise - this is my mother and
    fathers first REAL vacaction and they are really looking forward
    to it.

    What travel agent did they have? My agent (AAABCO) claim they can't do
    anything because NCL won't rebook people for next week until this weeks
    are done.

102.4April 15th Norway CruiseJAWS::MOSCHILLIMon Mar 27 1989 16:568
    We are booked on the April 15th Norway Cruise. It is a group of
    22 and we have been told that the NCL is working the 15th's flight
    arrangements this week (3/27) and she will know more on Monday (4/3).

    Has anyone else had flight problems since the Eastern strike?

    I was told that for April 1rst, we won't have arrangements until March

102.7There is a God!CLUSTA::RITTERDonna D. RitterTue Mar 28 1989 19:422
    My air arrangements just came through! NCL is express mailing my
    tickets to me for leaving on April 1rst! There is a God.....
102.8Now we're on a Chartered Plane!DARTS::MOSCHILLIThu Apr 06 1989 20:4722
    We are scheduled to leave on the Norway April 15th from Boston and
    have just been informed by my cruise agent that NCL is chartering
    a United plane for all of its Sea/Air passengers sailing on the
    15th and flying out of New England area.

    Instead of flying out Saturday morning, we are flying out 10:00
    pm on Friday. We will be transferred to a hotel for the evening
    (what's left of it) and transferred to the ship the next morning.

    Our return is worse....Sunday morning at 2:00 am!! Again, on Saturday
    we will be brought to a hotel for the day and then transferred to
    the airport for the 2:00 am flight home.

    I could be very positive and look at this as an extended vacation,
    but I think at 2:00am I'm going to be "cranky"!!

    Is anyone else having this much trouble? With school vacation and
    Eastern's strike I suppose we're likely to be getting their at all!

102.9Speak up!ATSE::FLAHERTYEvolving, not revolvingFri Apr 07 1989 01:1016
    My sister was having some trouble with Princess/Sitmar
    for her April cruise on the new ship Fair Majesty (or whatever
    it is being called now by Princess). They called the cruise
    line directly and complained (to a number of people). The
    squeeky wheel gets the grease, because now not only do they
    get a hotel room at the Hilton in Miami to stay in till their
    plane departs, but dinner at the hotel is thrown in (for 8
    people), transportation to the hotel and airport, along with a $200
    bar/gift shop tab for each (the two) families on board the ship!

    Ah to think of all the times I've sat in airports between the
    time the boat docks and the plane leaves for home, if I'd only
    known!

102.10NCL putting us up at the OmniDARTS::MOSCHILLITue Apr 11 1989 20:4315
    We received notification that we are going to be put up at the Omni
    International in Miami the Friday before the Cruise and Saturday
    after the Cruise, at NCLs expense. I asked our agent about them
    paying for our dinner, but she said that they will not do it. She
    said that the first thing they look at is how much you paid for your
    ticket. If you paid full price they will, but we were given a
    great discount so they won't pay for our meals.

    Oh well . . . at least we tried.

    When your sister returns from her cruise I'd be interested in
    hearing about it. I heard that ship is great.

102.11NCL got us good flightsCLUSTA::RITTERDonna D. RitterWed Apr 12 1989 12:529
    We went on the Norway from April 1 - April 8. We had a great time, and
    the flights were okay. We flew into Ft Lauderdale Saturday morning and
    a bus took us tothe ship (about 45 minutes). We left on the following
    Saturday afternoon - both on Delta.

    The cruise was magnificent. Well worth any small problems in the air -
    although I would not have liked getting home a day later.

    We were on the Noordame the week of april 1 - 8. We left Friday
    morning and were poolside in Ft. Lauderdale by 2pm. It went very
    smoothly being on standby both down and back.

    Donna - We were waving to the Norway folks as both ships left St.
    Thomas, did you see me? We had a GREAT time too.

102.14NCL takes care of its passengers!JAWS::MOSCHILLIWed Apr 26 1989 18:3330
    We sailed on the Norway April 14-22.

    We flew out of Boston on Friday evening 10:00 pm on a special chartered
    plane. Keep in mind this was a major school vacation week. We
    arrived in Miami, our luggage went into holding and was brought directly
    to the ship on Saturday. We packed overnight bags to take with
    us. We were bused to the Omni International, checked into the hotel
    and in bed by 2:45 am!

    The next morning we visited the malls and later in the day were
    bused to the ship.

    Our flight home was not until 2:00 am. Saturday morning we were bused
    to the Omni. United had a truck at customs to pick up our luggage
    and brought it directly to the airport. We spent the day at Bayside
    which is a wonderful Mall near the docks, had dinner, took a nap
    and were bused to the airport at 11:30 for a 1:30am flight home.

    NCL and the Omni did an excellent job of taking care of us and
    providing the best possible service under conditions that they
    had no control over.

    See Note 36.13 for a review of my cruise on the Norway.
