90.0. "Money" by DELNI::BASSETT (Smooth Operator) Wed Feb 22 1989 09:13

    How much money is usually spent on a 7 day cruise?
    How do you receive the bill, at the end of the cruise or daily?
    How do you carry cash?

    Any suggestions are welcome!

    Thanks millions!

	You can spend as much or as little as you'd like. It depends on how
	much you drink, how much you spend in the shops, both on land and on
	the ship, how much you spend on tours, how much you gamble ... etc.

	I've spent as much as $2500 and as little as $500 for two people.

	One couple sitting at our table on one of the cruises we went on spent
	$14,000 on jewelery in St. Thomas, $700 on perfume in Martinique and
	who knows how much elsewhere. We on the otherhand spent $12 on St.
	Thomas for T-Shirts and postcards and nothing on Martinique.

	End of cruise. On most lines you sign for pretty much everything.

> How do you carry cash?

	Don't carry cash. Get travelers checks. Then you can cash only as
	much as you'll need at any given time.

Hope this helps.

    	 Can you just hand them a American Express/MasterCard/Visa
    	at the end of the cruise and take care of the damages when
    	you get home?

    	P.S. Joe, see you on the Norway, Were in cabin A102.

90.3"Sail and Sign"CVETTE::MARCINGeri MarcinWed Feb 22 1989 15:5114

    I went on a cruise for my honeymoon in October (had a great time!!!!)
    and what you can do, at least on Carnivale cruises is apply for
    a "Sail and Sign card". You give them your American Express ( I
    think they take Visa and MC too) and they call for approval etc..
    and you get a sail and sign card. you can use that to get all
    your drinks, I think they even added on the 15% gratuity, I'm not
    sure but I think they do that. Then it shows up on your next
    bill. It was much easier than carrying cash around the boat,
    especially when we were out at the pool.....

90.4$100 a Day for Two Is a Good Rule of ThumbTLE::BENTLEYWed Feb 22 1989 15:5917
    Since, in all the cases I know of, your trip is paid for up front, the
    only expenses you will have are drinks, souvenirs, tours -- all the
    extras not included in your trip fare (oh yes, and don't forget tips!).

    We planned on $100 a day (for the two of us). And this is exactly what
    it has averaged out to on the cruises we have taken. One day you might
    spend only $25, and the next $175. It depends on how much you drink,
    how many souvenirs you want to lug home, and how many onshore trips you
    want to take.

    If you plan to do any big bucks shopping ($$$) in places like St. Thomas,
    they're only to happy to take your charge cards.

    We kept our money (American Express) with the purser and took out only
    what we thought we would need for the day. If something unusual came
    up onshore and we wanted to spend more, we were usually able to use
    our MasterCard.
