83.0. "Accidents and Other Mishaps" by TLE::BENTLEY () Fri Feb 10 1989 15:44

    I was just home for lunch and I was watching the noon news. There was
    a story that prompted me to start this topic.

    A Carnival cruise ship sliced through a freighter in the Caribbean this
    morning. Details are sketchy right now. Forty-some crewmen are
    missing from the freighter, but the cruise ship seems to be okay. They
    don't know who is at fault yet. I guess we'll hear more about it on
    the news tonight.

    Pleasant news for those of us who are heading south soon!

83.1Which ship?ATSE::FLAHERTYNevermore!Fri Feb 10 1989 16:378
    A friend just told me that story. She didn't know which Carnivale
    ship was involved, but she knew I'd be interested as I'm scheduled
    to sail on the Jubilee a week from Sunday.

    If anyone hears anymore today, I'd appreciate hearing...

83.3What do they do in that case?THOTH::MCNEILTue Feb 21 1989 17:078

    Does anyone know what they do about all the people booked on this
    ship while it is being repaired??? If able???
    Do they get refunds, or another cruise line...????

    Just curious

    From what I saw on the news, the "Celebration" suffered only minor
    damage, alot of scratches and was re-painted in Miami. The ship
    sailed out of Miami as scheduled the same day.

    Late update on the Celebration...

    Feb 25th I went on the Holiday, which goes to Cozumel, Caymans,
    and Ocho Rios, Jamaica...absolutely gorgeous...and the Celebration
    and Holiday disembark right next to each other. They were painting
    the damage on the Celebration, but it was only minor that I could
    see. Can't imagine when they'll have time to really fix it all
    at once.

    As far as the Holiday, I would recommend that cruise to anyone.
     I went with Singleworld and had the best time of my life.
