    Well, I wasn't sure where to put this one, so I'll just create a new
    note.
    
    A week ago Monday our 1st Lieutenant stepped down due to medical
    reasons.  The 2nd Lt was bumped up to 1st, thus opening a slot in that
    position.
    
    Well, yours truly, along with two other engineers, was nominated for
    the Lieutenant position.  Basically, it came down to myself and one
    other guy.  Unfortunately, this person is probably my best friend on
    the department.
    
    The final vote was a tie!  8 for myself, 8 for him and 4 for the other
    guy.  The President cast the deciding ballot, and it wasn't for me.  A
    bit of a disappointment, but I certainly can't feel bad for the other
    guy since he has been an engineer for some time, has quite a few more
    credentials then myself (Fire Instructor, etc) and is certainly
    qualified for the job.
    
    Hopefully I'll get another chance in the not-to-distant future, but for
    now, I guess I'll just keep on driving!
