943.0. "xf, xs and xc - they're only used with -x aren't they?" by KERNEL::COFFEYJ (La Feline Flooz - a unix cat) Tue May 06 1997 20:39

Could someone settle a brief disagreement for me.

A colleague (I shan't name names to protect the guilty)
and I differ over the x* values in printcap.

I understood it that they are the equivalent of the f*
values except they are used with lpr -x.

A colleague insists they are always used, with the f* values
and if the lpr -x says don't use the f* values then on
their own.

I don't see the point if it works his way....

xc will clear those flags
xs set the new ones
fc will clear the new flags
fs will then set even newer ones...

Someone please tell me if I'm right or if I''ve just lost it
conceptually and need to rejig my lpd ward of brain cells...

These values are used to set/clear features in serial port driver.
If you are not printing to a serial port they are unused.
