940.0. "can't create dummy file" by NNTPD::"destito@mail.dec.com" (Giovanni Destito) Thu Apr 24 1997 20:33

Hi All,
I have a problem with the Printserver Software V5.1 on Digital Unix V4.0b
When I configure the manager print client ( option #3) with the lpssetup
I have the following error:
.
.
.
Updating /etc/printcap ...

[The "lpsrio" print queue has been created]
    [Creating log file: /var/adm/lpsrio.log]
    [Creating accounting file: /var/adm/lpsrio.acct]
    [Creating spool directory: /var/spool/lpsrio]
    [Creating status file: /var/spool/lpsrio/status]
    [Creating dummy device file: /dev/null-lpsrio]
Usage: mknod specialfile b/c major minor
or mknod fifo p

The dummy printer device could not be created for some reason.
Please investigate and correct this problem, then re-run this
    procedure.

Sorry, but the creation of the new Print Client failed for the
reasons listed above. See what you can do to fix the problem,
then try to recreate the Print Client.

-n Press RETURN to return to the Manage Print Clients Menu...

Where can I look for to correct the problem?
I have reinstalled the Printserver software without luck

Many thanks in advance
Giovanni

    	did you check /dev/null ?
940.2/dev/null is corruptNNTPD::"destito@mail.dec.com"Giovanni DestitoMon Apr 28 1997 00:1017
Hi Manuel,
Thank you for your reply
The problem was the /dev/null but this file wasn't missing.
I checked if it was present:

# ls -l /dev/null
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 100 Apr 27 20:52 null

I do the MAKEDEV and now it is:

crw-rw-rw- 1 root system 2, 2 Apr 27 20:53 null

Now the lpssetup works fine.

Many thanks again
Giovanni
