931.0. "printing Chinese chars.?" by CSC32::L_SERKMAN () Tue Apr 08 1997 21:44

    Hello,

    	I have a customer running V3.2 of Unix. Does she have any options,
    other than going to V4.0b, if she wants to print chinese characters?

931.1Digital UNIX has limited support for Chinese printingNETRIX::"longman@zk3.dec.com"Wai-man LongThu Apr 10 1997 00:2623
Linda,

Digital UNIX V3.2 only has limited support for Chinese character
printing. You need to install the Chinese portion of the Worldwide
Language kit in order to have Chinese character printing capability.
See i18n_printing(5) for more information. Basically, we support
Chinese printing for the following three PostScript printers:

        DEClaser 1152
        DEClaser 5100
        LPS 17

But you probably cannot buy them as they are no longer supported. The
situation is the same for V4.0*. We are now developing a better
printing solution for Asian languages. However, this new solution will
not be ready until the next major release of the Digital UNIX operating
system which will be released next year. For the time being, you may have
to look for some third-party solution.
