927.0. "okidata printing problems" by MAIL1::YATES () Fri Apr 04 1997 02:39

We are having a problem with printing from DEC Unix V3.2c where occasionally we get a message at the top of the output page that reads:

3536 dfA319ppgrsap1 (where ppgrsap1 is our SAP hostname)

The correct output follows, but form feed is affected. We feel the first number "was" the PID of the child lpd process and the df# is the actual file name.

How can we stop these from printing and what causes these messages to print.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

    Very strange. Can you provide the printcap entry for your printer?
    Can you reproduce this at will (by printing the same file to the same
    printer), or is it seemingly random? Do you have the problem when
    printing to a different kind of printer (which is a guess that it's
    filter based)?

    Are you running any patches for printing on top of V3.2?

    Have you tried printing to a 4.x system, and if so, do you also see the
    problem?

    This looks like a debug statement that got left in, but that's just a
    guess.

    -mark.
