913.0. "Support of HP4MV Laser Printer" by ZPOVC::COLINTONG () Tue Feb 18 1997 10:24

    Hi,

I have user requirement to print Postscript file on A3 paper using
    HP4MV printer.

Can any of the new pcf filters to be released in DUX 4.0C supported
    that.

    Any input will be appreciated

The pcf filter called pcfof was submitted into what was v4.0c which I think is
now v4.0d. We won't know what the real released version is until it is
released. That's why internal development code names are used.

The HP web page is down but as I recall the 4mv printer is a
pcl5e/postscript printer similar to the 4mplus and the 5si. Since this
is a Singapore question I will state that filter works with 8 bit
characters but not with 16 bit wide characters.

Since I'm not familiar with your i18n printing requirements I will provide
a general reply in regards to using non-standard paper.

The pcfof filter uses text files to configure the printer attributes.
With the use of this filter the customer will be able to create an A3
configuration. The only problem is that the documentation won't be
available until a future release. I do plan to have the
documentation available on the web site
ftp://vorpal.zk3.dec.com/html/print.html before the release of the
filter on the Digital UNIX kit.

At this time there isn't a HP 4mv pcf file in the works because I don't
have access to the printer. You will need to create the hp4mv pcf
file to handle the printer specific features, such as tray selection, as
well as the different paper size.

The only problem I can see is that the banner page text created
by the print daemon may not be sized correctly for a3 paper. The
pcfof filter does have a work around but it involves writing code.
913.2I want to build the 4mv filter, but...ZPOVC::COLINTONGWed Feb 19 1997 13:0120
    -1. Thanks for your reply.

We have just installed six AlphaStation 500 running DUX V4.0B there.
They already has the HP4mv printer in the network and they allow us to
    do on-site testing.

I am planning to test/build the pcf filters in their AlphaStation. I
    have the following questions:

    1) Did DUX V4.0B support the pcf filter ?
    2) I have read the PCF sections in
    ftp://vorpal.zk3.dec.com/html/print.html and copy the hplj4mplus
filters. Can I use this filter as starting point ?
    3) You said the documentation is not ready. Do you have any preliminary
       documentation ?

    Thanks in advance

>1) Did DUX V4.0B support the pcf filter ?

No, the filter hasn't been released on a kit yet.

I would say start with the hplj4mplus.pcf file. I would expect every thing
to work fine except for tray selection.

I will mail you something.
