905.0. "Questions on "printer error"" by CSC32::L_SERKMAN () Wed Jan 29 1997 21:24

    Hello,

    	I have a customer who does a lpq -Pquename, and it says "printer
    error", but it prints fine. The printer is on a Novell server and it
    has the normal rm and rp entry. There are no problems when printing
    from the Novell server, itself. Again, it prints fine, just gives
    this error. Any ideas on what this means, or how to troubleshoot
    it?

I don't know, but I would guess it means it is expecting to get
the response one would get from a remote unix system using
lpd (since it's set up as remote printing) and the Novell
does not act the same.

Might be worth checking permissions on the spool directory and
the status file in there too.
