515.0. "switch 1201 catalyst hang" by NNTPD::"helmut@bedie1.grt.dec.com" () Thu Jun 05 1997 20:47

HI,
we have a strength problem with a cisco catalyst 1201 (1024 addresses)
(and no skills)

The original cisco 1201 has factory installed setup. After 2 years he goes
defekt.
Each hour, the switch reboot's itself.
(checking without DAS-FDDI Modul was bringing the same result.)

So we swapped the cisco 1201. All lines works fine for 1.5 hours.
Then all ip-Addresses hangs. Console still working.
After power off/on, system works for another 1.5 hours.

So we think maybe it's a DOA. We ordered another switch 1201 + a fddi-modul.
Fddi-modul was not deliefered in time so we swapped only the 1201.

Now we have the same problem.
Puting the switch in the FDDI-Ring for one night, no prolem,
Using the port 3 - 10 (twisted pair) cisco 1201 hangs after 1.5 hours.

What do we wrong?
is it possible, the original fddi-port is defect ?
is it possible fddi-port have wrong ECO type ?
or have we a unknown setupproblem?

(Our quickfix on Cosumerside is a vnswitch -ef, It's working without
problems.)

regards helmut
