208.0. "Official Winter-Haters' Note" by BIRKA::LITBY (...and he built a Crooked House) Sat Feb 27 1988 14:36

	 I HATE winter!!!! Also, I can't stand you people who live in
	 California, Florida, South Carolina etc. and have the actual
	 audacity to write notes here telling us about your daily games when
	 I have to sit here and look out at the slush. The closest I get to
	 golfing these days is the indoor driving range in downtown
	 Stockholm.

	 I hereby propose this topic as the official "Snow Dweller's
	 Complaints Note" were we unfortunates who live in the north can
	 cry on each other's shoulders. Come on, let's start the
	 winter-bashing!!

	 :-) :-) :-)

    I'm a BIG fan of winter too. Normally I don't mind January, Feburuary
    but this year all I read about is going to Fla, Bermuda .......
    What's a poor guy to do? Of course the worst part was taking my
    daughter to the golf course.... to go sledding. Talk about mixed
    emotions!

    Well it's sugarin' season soon, that means golf can't be too far
    behind. The only bright spot is the folks that are stopping by
    to get new grips installed, refinishing and new clubs made. A sure
    sign that we'll be putting the peg in the ground.

    p.s. Welcome back Mr Litby. I think we should all give Gene a
    little sh** for not telling us about the move.

208.4Heat wave for EskimosUSWAV3::FAGERBERGTue Mar 01 1988 13:516

    We played 27 holes (our legs payed for that later) Saturday, 18
    more on Sunday. Temporary tees and greens, but the sun felt good.
    Only some snow in shady areas (Alaskan snow traps) and bunkers are
    unplayable. But this warm sun during the week is too much to resist,
    have to play on the weekends, regardless!
208.5Some improvement in sight...BIRKA::LITBY...and he built a Crooked HouseTue Mar 01 1988 14:5811

	 Went home for lunch and found the membership bill from the golf
	 club in the mailbox. ~$400 - didn't exactly make the weather feel
	 warmer, rather I broke out in a cold sweat. Better get down to the
	 driving range tent for a quick fix. It also keeps snowing outside,
	 but there's consolation in that the days get brighter, now it's
	 actually bright outside when I go to/from work (overtime not
	 included).

	Colorado Springs, Elavation 6552 ft.
	Weather: 63 degrees, all city courses open.
	Forecast: Mid 50's to Mid 60's all week.

	Since January I have played 10 times.

	When I lived in New England I NEVER (that's right NEVER)
	(not even once) played during the winter.

	Had to put in my $0.02

	I'm taking tomorrow afternoon off, can you imagine
	I had to wait 2 hours for a walkon the other day, the
	courses are packed.

208.7Winter returnsGOLFIN::RUBKEWed Mar 02 1988 14:006
    Eric is right. The weather was beautiful last week and I hit the
    links here also. However, it ain't so today. Snow. Two inches in
    my driveway (north facing, so it doesn't melt easily), and snowing
    as I write this. Well, so much for spring fever in Colo.

    Couldn't resist, I have been playing every chance I can get all
    winter, the only problem is getting on with all the snowbirds
    guaking and look Martha the grass is still green. It was 82 here
    yesterday and it was a nice stroll around Cave Creek and to top
    it off I shot a 95 which is quite good for me. had a ball, If I
    could develope any kind of short game I would proably take 10 to
    12 strokes of my score.

208.10Middsummer middnightgolf mad...HSK03::KAJANENWed Mar 09 1988 16:5112
    Do not worry Per Olof, the spring is coming in full speed even
    here in Finland.Yesterday we received only 10 inches more that
    magic white stuff and my all dreams to find reasonable outdoor
    pitching ground will most propably extend again couple of weeks.

    However my personal "winter golf" game,which I usually play by
    laying on livingroom sofa, closin eyes and imagining my homecourse's
    fairways,is improving incredible fast.In my last round I managed
    to play round almost 30 under PAR!!For instace on one PAR 4 which
    I 90 percent times duff and get bogey in summer game,NOW got eagle
    not to mention other victories.

208.11Will spring ever come????NCMWVX::LAFAVETue Mar 15 1988 02:047
  Up here in the nothern Midwest, Wisconsin, Mother Nature is playing another
of her typical March teasing games. The last couple of weeks the weather was
great and it appeared that the courses would be open any day. THEN this past
weekend another couple of inches of snow and freezing temperatures.

  It's times like this when one thinks very seriously about relocation to
warmer climates.

    Well, here it is, one week into spring. What a beautiful weekend.
    In the 70's here with a breeeze (ok, a wind). Anyway, golf was nice
    on Saturday eccept for some extremely slick greens. The course is
    still brown, but the snow is gone... except today it is 23 degrees
    (F) and snowing. How I love Colorado spring weather!? At least this
    time of year, the snow melts quickly. We should be playing again
    this weekend.

Yeah...spring-time in the Rockies...it's like nowhere else. Believe
or not, me and a friend played yesterday afternoon right before the
snow storm blew in. Hardly a soul on the course!
