A mildly ammusing survey at the GOLFonline web site:

"What would you most like to see banned from golf courses?"

                      Final Results

What I would like to see banned from golf courses is:

	       Votes Percentage

Carts 295	16.5%
Cellular Phones	653	36.6%
Cigars 600	33.6%
Long Putters 80 4.5%
Plaid Slacks	136 7.6%
Shorts 21 1.2%

Anyone else with what you'll like to see banned?

My vote:

I smoke. I don't light up around the greens/tees. Only smoke walking

re: .13 drinkers
The same as with smokers, I don't think we want to generalize that are "drinkers"
who trash a course.

I would change that to:

Anyone who throws garbage outside the bins, be it cans, bottles, paper, cigarette
buts or cigar wrappings (which are as prevalent this days as the rest of other
trash).

I THINK WE SHOULD BAN ALL OF YOU MOANERS OUT THERE !!!

WHY CAN YOU NOT JUST ACCEPT THE WAYS IN WHICH THE GAME HAS DEVELOPED
AND IS PLAYED. YOU ARE ALL TRYING TO MAKE EXCUSES FOR YOUR OWN BAD
    GOLF. !!! SO TOUGH S*** !!!
2119.17STOWOA::tavo.ogo.dec.com::DiazOctavioMon Mar 10 1997 16:5614
I'm not sure exactly what "MOANERS" refer to. But I can think of it in two
ways:

1. Some people expect "PERFECT" condition courses. Very, but very few public
courses can come even close to that. So you're going to find hard pan,
debris, divots, etc. So stop complaining about it or join Augusta National,
the only course I know that closes for the summer and paints the water for
the Masters.

2. Nobody has a perfect repeatable swing, not even the pros. So if you chunk
or skull it, yeah, vent a little, but let go after that and don't blame
anything else but yourself, but don't take yourself too seriously.

(And now the golf counceling office is closed ;-)

Who the heck is moaning? And what has this subject matter got to do
with making excuses for "your own bad golf"?

I assume that your use of capital letters is intentional after seeing
your comment "SO TOUGH S*** !!!" - real nice touch there.

Well, if you enjoy playing 6 hour rounds etc. the more power to you...
    have fun.

    RE .18

I actually enjoy my 6 hour rounds of golf.
In fact maybe we could arrange a game one day ?
I have the pleasure of playing 6 hours and not being in the home or in
the 19th which is a few good points.

I apologise if I offended your intelligence by using BLOCK CAPITALS !!

re: .19

You enjoy 6 hour rounds? A 6 hour round in not "playing golf".
A 6 hour round is: "Hit your shot. Go to your ball. Wait 10
minutes while the people in front of you wait 10 minutes for
the people in front of them. Repeat until you're so frustrated
that you wonder why you're not doing something else."

Then again, maybe we can find all the people who enjoy 6 hour
rounds, and open a special club just for them. Of course, they'd
have to install lights, because there wouldn't be enough daylight
to accomodate all the slow players...

There is very little censorship here, so you are entitled to your own
opinion, as long as you don't get too personal.

For the most part people prefer to play at a constant pace, not a start/stop
pace. That translates into a 4 to 4 1/2 hour round. So when you expressed
that you prefer a 6 hour round, you are affecting the people behind you.

I'm sure you knew you were going to get some noise from that comment
2119.24VYGER::HEARTONLWed Mar 26 1997 14:0611
I realise that it affects others on the golf course, which is WHY we
would life to see it banned from the golf course, and is also the
    talking point of this subject.

I think the matter at hand is now resolved and that we shall continue
    with the original topic (RE.22)

My sincerest apologies for any inconveniences I may have caused!!

    Thank You !
